Yes she's a moron for going back but going back is pretty typical for battered women. Isolation and people saying she deserves beatings is the last thing this girl needs. Chris has had a whole year to break her down and make her feel like a piece of caca. Girl suffers from low self worth.

Joe Shmoe - I've heard a lot of stuff about how she paid people to follow him when he was on tour to check he wasn't cheating and also a report that their fight started over a text he got from another woman which made Rihanna crazy. But really its just my assessment of why women often stay with men who beat them or cheat on them/treat them like shite (my mum and her twat of her boyfriend for example, not the beating part but he's the biggest piece of shit the world ever saw).

I just could never understand the reasons why people put up with it until I fell in love and felt this crazy feeling. Its the most horrendous feeling in the world, especially when that person doesn't want you and you genuinely will put up with anything from them cos to be without them would be worse than anything they do to you. So that's why I think you get couples like Amy Winehouse and Blake FC; they've got such a crazy, irrational, obsessional love going on that whatever he does to her she'd rather go back than be without him.

Basically I don't think the only reason women go back to abusive men is that they can't leave for financial reasons or they're scared, I think sometimes it is because they can't bear to lose them. And domestic violence goes on with a lot more people then people would expect, its not just downtrodden wives. An ex-flatmate of mine, one of the most good-looking girls I have ever known, was in an abusive relationship when she was younger and she said it was caused by the fact that he was so jealous of her. I was amazed that she put up with it but there you go, it does happen.

They often pull that from the suspect's driver's license. In Cali, you can self-report that stuff. That's why mine says 27, blond, and slender.

Ok, contrary to what most people on this thread think, I have not lost sympathy for Rihanna cos she's gone back to Chris. Up until about 5 years ago I would have agreed with you all but at theat point in time I didn't know what mad, obsessive, irrational, jealous love can do to someone. Fortunately I've never been in a violent relationship and I'm not sure whether this would make a big difference, but I have certainly been treated horrendously badly by someone I was very much in love with during one of the worst periods of my life (for a whole host of other reasons).

It was a girl as a matter of fact and she can be a grade A bitch but for some reaosn I was madly in love with her and no matter what she said, no matter what she did and no matter how much my friends tried to talk me out of it, I could not stop loving her. Cry me a river? I cried a fucking ocean for that broad, but I'm over it now. It did take me however until she accused me of "trying to lay guilt trips on people" when I asked to speak to her after the sudden death of the man who had been a father to me since I was 19 that my feelings finally and eventually changed, after 3 long years of emotional torture. I'm so happy I'm out of that place now but for a very long time I would have forgiven this girl anything I was so obsessed by her. Jealous, irrational love can not be reasoned with, it defies all forms of logic, and it sounds very much to me like Rihanna has it. And I think it will probably take her a few more years and unfortunately possibly a few more beatdowns before she stops being controlled by it.

What alternate universe were you visiting when this story initially broke??? The person who called the cops wasn't Rihanna, and it wasn't one of her friends--it was an unrelated, uninvolved witness in the neighborhood who heard a woman screaming and made the call. There were witnesses at the hospital when she was admitted who can attest to the physical condition she was in at the time.

From the LA Times, 2/8/09:
