I live in NYC and there are tons of these things. You just don't know where to look. Also because this is NYC, there are even seedier outfits around. This is the mecca for television,theatre, films, modeling agencies and other media. There are so many shady "I'll make your kid a star" financial predators out there. THAT to me is more scary. These sleazy places use young people to bring in the new ones.

I don't think there is anything wrong with pushing academics on children. American children are behind because most parents could care less. If the child has the aptitude for it, then by all means see just how fabulous your child can be academically or artistically. Every generations is supposed to be better than the previous.

As far as pageants go I dislike the makeup (it should be banned precisely because it's a kiddie pageant) and bathing suits, because of the same reason.

How come the pageant mom's are either grossly overweight, have big 80's hair, or outdated/ugly clothes (Christmas tree/snowman sweaters, etc.).

Yet they expect their 3 year old daughter to dress & look perfect. Start working on yourselves and stop projecting what you wish you could be onto your child.

It's so sick. I was watching some show like this and the disgusting hick grandma said "grandma needs a car" - that was the pageant prize. And then the poor little girl said she had to win so her lazy ugly fucking g'ma could have a car.

It's some weird projection on their kids what they never could accomplish themselves. A lot of parents do it other ways--through academics, sports, etc.

Oh my god, I am obsessed with this shit. I've seen all the documentaries and shows. It's so wrong, and I despise these people, but I find it a fascinating subculture.

While I don't think there are these pageants in the Northeast where I live, the stage-mom thing is universal. I guess everything is taken to it's "nth" degree with kids these days.With young boys...it's sports of course.When I was a kid my parents were always happy to see me involved with sports.There was some "push"..but nowadays they're mapping out your "path to the pros" from age 3.You can thank Tiger for that.With both boys & girls-few people are scarier to be around than STAGE PARENTS.(usually mom)I've been in a room when kids were being cast for parts.Pageant parents are actually tame compared to these creatures.
