DeeDee is right! (Ah-gain.) His parents' trust holds title. It's not that fancy a house: 2340 SF, tax-assessed at $775k in 2007. I guess he won't need his room for the next couple of years.

Never was a fan of Anna Nicole Smith but she didn't deserve to die that way. Obviously she was an addict and the people around her...like Stern....helped finish her off. Big surprise! Like the authorities didn't figure out years ago who was giving her all that crap? It's a little late now.

The registered address for his law license is 3838 Dixie Canyon Ave, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423 (a really nice area). I couldn't find any real estate in Cali in his name, but lots of folks use trusts and LLCs to hide the title.

@tangerine and @dallas: you may be right - these guys were kinda shady anyway. i used to have to make an appointment for every refill - who has the time for that> nand this was for blood pressure medication! nothing *fun*. i started up with a new doc and saw them today, actually. thanks for the syymathy!

this lady listened to the sounds coming from myshoulder - she could hear it from across the room, -and she said "oh, you need an x-ray RIGHT NOW" heh. i have a pretty high pain tolerance so if i'm complaining, it's bad. thank god she was sympathetic and prescribed me 30 vicodin, take as needed, no refills - thank you very much.

i really think some brains are hard-wired for addiction to certain chemicals - for some it's cocaine or speed, for some it's narcotics. joni mitchell says she smoked one cigarette and that was IT. and i think alcohol and sugar work the same way. so not being addicted isn't a sign of good moral character, necessarily - it could just be luck, or brain chemistry.

IT'S ABOUT TIME that loser was held accountable in some small way. To anyone who ever saw her show, or especially those home videos that were going around, it was SO OBVIOUS that he liked her drugged up and dependent. I think he's even more deserving of punishment than the doctors - he was with her all the time, keeping her loaded. From day one, I've always viewed him as responsible for her death. She was kinda cuckoo, but I miss her! He's a criminal as far as I'm concerned.

Jeffrey Toobin said this sort of crime is rarely prosecuted and might result in 1-2 years in prison if convicted. The real penalty is they all might lose their licenses for a long time. I think our Atty General Jerry Brown is using it for political ends. Since when did an AG care about such a low-level crime?

That is what bothers me. People who really need the pain meds are not able to get them. It's a damn shame. From what I have read, people who really need them for pain and have no history of addiction usually do not become addicted because they don't get high from the painkillers like addicts do. So people like you will use them the way they are supposed to be used and put them down for good when you don't need them anymore. People should not have to suffer and not be able to get relief from their pain. I am really sorry to hear about that.

McNightmare ~ It sounds as though your doctor has been flaggged by the "narcotic agency" that works for the insurance companies. Once they see that a doctor is prescribing to many narcs to an individual or individual's they are flagged. Once this happens and the insurance company reports it to the "state", doctors become very paranoid to write scripts for any narcotics!

Happy Friday!! I totally agree with you aboutthe drugs being very powerful...oxycontin is basically synthetic heroin. I do believe that the maker of oxy got sued for pushing the advertising (the pens and stuff) on docs so that the docs would prescribe the new meds over older ones. I can't remember the exact details of the case, but I do know what you are talking about. I think it's ridiculous that a doc would prescribe a med based on the little advertising and incentives and that is what made me become very skeptical of docs. Yeah, I could see the older generation putting all their faith into their doctors. It's very scary and sad that money drives the healthcare system, and not actual caring about people.

tangerine: I agree with you to a certain extent. I don't take ANYTHING stronger than Tylenol. I suppose if I had major surgery or was dying of cancer, I would take anything. But otherwise, I steer clear of all prescriptions. In my experience, once a person is on ONE prescription, they wind up taking a whole bunch to treat the side effects of the first. I don't know ANYONE who takes just ONE prescription.

People have free will, but these drugs are powerfully addicitive. And the doctors have powerful incentives to prescribe them.

Also, you would not BELIEVE the way people trust their doctors. Especially older people. I think the younger generation might be more skeptical and likely to do their own research. That's good.

Obviously there was something fishy in this whole situation, but when it comes to doctors "keeping someone addicted" or whatever, I don't agree with that. People have freewill and they choose to keep taking the medication. I was just prescribed three meds all with heavy sedating properties. My doc said it was safe to take them all in the same day, but I did my own research and found out that it is a very dangerous combination that could kill me. Most people are intelligent enough to know not to blindly trust a doctor, as they are human too. If I were taking a highly addicting pain med such as oxycontin and I became dependent, I could easily just go to my doc and tell him my concerns and he could help me detox off it. The thing is, a lot of people seek out these docs who are loose with their scripts because they are addicts and then they fuck up and od and ruin it for the people who really do need those strong pain relievers and won't abuse them. ANS was clearly an addict and I am sure sought out those docs who would write her prescriptions for whatever she wanted. I do think they should get into trouble for writing them under different names and stuff, but it's so complicated because I think ANS was a willing participant.
