Why did they have "auditions" for this stupid-ass show, anyway? There is ZERO reason for people to line up in a huge cattle call like they did. I swear to god, the more I think about it, the more it seems like it was PLANNED to turn out the way it did. Especially after reading crtb's account.

Not to defend the NYPigD, but they were probably pissed that they had to deal with someone else's poor planning.

They should have had women submit headshots or videos to the show's producers. If they wanted to see and hear the hopefuls (to find the personalities they need to flesh out the flimsy premise of the show), they could have required a 1 minute video clip of the women answering questions. Then they could have invited a certain number of them to a REAL audition.

And as we've discussed already, if a girl is THAT beautiful, and truly model material, she wouldn't need to stand in line to get work.

I am sorry to be a jerk but what fashion designer would hire a model shorter then 5' 7" when that is short in the modeling world? It would stick out like a sore thumb on the runway when all the other models are between 5' 8" and 6'.

ANTM is not about creating super models. It is about tapping into the fantasy a lot of teen girls have about being a model and appealing to "every" girl from any town USA being "beautiful" enough to be a model. Since the show has never produced an actual top model, it is pretty silly to have a cycle about 5'7" and under models, but they have clearly run out of ideas.

sorry to hear your kid was part of this clusterfuck crtb, but she'll never be a model at 5'7 or under. Only internationally recognized models like Kate Moss can get away with being 5'8 or under (and she's horrid looking. She's only a supermodel because she was the face of the heroin chic movement). If she were exceptional enough to be in NYC, she would have been discovered by now. She should persue other kinds of modeling. Most top models look like feet anyways.

OK first of all, America's Next Top Model is a fucking joke. Not one person has gone on to be a top model. Some have gone on to do other reality tv shows but as for as I know, none are making millions in the fashion world. Second, even if it were legit, a girl under 5'8" has no chance in hell of being a model. Why does Tyra even entertain this fuckery? Even though many of the regular model contestants are deluded as hell, at least they were able to weed out all but about 10% of the "I'm so pretty, I'm so hot" skank masses with the height requirement. Opening it up to the other 90% was just asking for an epic clusterfuck.

I don't understand why men were present in line

Boyfriends and fathers were there for support as were friends and mothers. Thank goodness! Otherwise, people wouldn't have been able to get anything to drink or eat for over 12 hours. Nor would they have anyone to hold their place in line while they got off the line to use the bathroom. Many of the boyfriends stayed across the street and continued to bring water, coffee and food to their love ones that were still on line. Most of the parents left.

Tyra is such a waste of space. She is completely responsible for this mess.

crtb - thanks for sharing your story. I agree that Tyra's production company is liable for poor organization and mismanagement. Maybe Tyra was too busy discussing Rihanna and Chris Brown on Oprah to oversee the organizers, lol. Tyra Banks has been doing America's Top Model for 13 seasons and she should
have figured out by now how to organize an event of thousand of hopefuls without violence occurring.

My daughter and I arrived at 6:00 am. The line doubled around the block twice with people sleeping in sleeping bags and chairs who had spent the night Everyone was quite and orderly. There were no barricades, ropes to divide people or numbers. For no apparent reason, at approximately 8:00am, everyone started running, thinking that the doors were being opened. An orderly line turned into chaos.Those people in chairs and sleeping bags got left behind as the girls who arrived hours later, swept pass them. At the doors, coming from both sides, were crowds of women. I have to give kudos to everyone for staying calm, trying not to push and no fights broke out. My daughter and I were at the end of the block. People took turns getting food and coffee for others, holding their place so that they could use the bathrooms in restaurants. The problems did not arise until 10:00am when the police arrived. They were cursing at people saying "Back the fuck up", which was impossible. If the people in the back weren't backing up, there was no place to back up. The cops started calling the girls, "Animals!", to which they responded "That is how you're treating us!" I think had the crowd not been 95% Black, this type of name calling would not have occurred. The barricades didn't go up until about noon. At which time, all men were asked to leave the line. I saw many cops accuse the guys of speaking rudely to them and that was not true. It was as if the cops were trying to provoke a fight. At 1:00pm, all the mothers were asked to leave the line. I arrived home at 2:45 pm. I called my daughter and she said the line had not moved in two hours. The audition was supposed to be from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. My daughter said, people began to asked what would happen at 3:00pm. People were starting to get anxious. Would they be turned away? Would everyone on line still get an opportunity to audition? That's when the cops turned ugly. All anyone wanted was an answer. My daughter was let in by 4:00 pm. Prior to coming, wanna-be models were to fill out a many paged application. Inside, they were asked to quickly fill out another application and given a number. Not enough time was given to complete the new=20
application. Someone with a camera came by, scan the line and the girls were told they didn't make it and told to leave. The muliti paged application was never collected. Many girls were crying. When my daughter got outside the fire trucks were there. Apparently someone had scream, "bomb" and all hell had broken loose.

I find Ms. Banks and her production company responsible for any arrest, chaos, pandemonium, hospitalizations. All of this could have been avoided with 30 minutes. of organization. Numbers should have been given out. A place large enough for thousands of people to sit down, should have been rented. Barricades and rope should have been set up. Security should have been hired and been there all night. Information should have been relayed to the crowd. Port-a-potties should have been set up. Where did they expect thousand of young woman to do while standing on line for over 12 hours? Food vendors should have been arranged. Tyra, you should be ashamed of yourself!!!

You got the facts completely wrong. What happened was a car had a radiator hose go. It smoked. If you watch the video, you will see in the first few seconds the black car smoking at the bottom left side of screen and you can hear the guy who screamed "it's gonna blow". When he said that it caused a riot in the middle near where the car was and everyone ran for their lives thinking the car was going to explode. Later in the video you see the police grab someone because a guy jumped the gate and punched a girl and someone shouted "He's got a gun" which caused more of a rush and riot.
