When Mattel announced that they would be giving Dora the Explorer a tween makeover, mobs of parents got crazy assuming they were going to turn her into a ho fo sho. The new Dora wasn't supposed to be unveiled until the fall, but because of all the screamery Mattel released a picture of the all-new Dora.
The new Dora doesn't look like she's ready for the pole yet, but homegirl did pay a visit to the plastic surgeon's office. Bitch got a nose job, lip injections, extensions and highlights. Mattel said the tween Dora isn't wearing make-up, but that shit is full of lies. Dora's got herself some fake eyelashes and lip gloss. Also, her eyes are all sparkly. Is this bitch already on the drugs? I'm thinking E. Those glittery eyes are just begging for a glowstick light show!

this is necessary on Nick's part because Dora is losing her edge. Diego is the new dora. I just saw Dora LIVE! and the show was supposed to be about her but all the kids went APESCHIT when Diego came out. Dora needs to do something new. How many times can she do "Bridge, boat, WATERFALL!"

There are so many toys these days that reinforce gender stereotypes. Dora the Explorer’s “old” look is a neutral look for all children. It is obvious that she is a girl but it is not over feminine. As she grows in to her “new” look, she is shown to be conforming to gender roles already. She has long eyelashes, long brown hair, slender body, and all pink and purple clothes. Instead of tennis shoes, she has on flats, instead of only one piece of jewelry, she has earnings, a necklace, and a bracelet. This change takes away from what children identify her with: adventure and exploration. No one can function on a safari or in the ocean wearing ballet flats and a dress. What happened to the shorts and t-shirt? Just because she is a “tween” girl does not mean that she must grow her hair full and long and wear a dress with leggings. This is just another prominent figure that will influence young girls to conform to their assigned gender role. You kids, especially girls, look up to Dora and want to dress like her and be like her. Wearing shorts and going on adventures is a good way to show little girls that they don’t have to sit inside and play with dolls but go outside and pretend to be on a safari like Dora. Now that she is older, she is just showing her young fans that all of that will go out the window once they grow up. She isn’t Dora anymore; she is just another idealized pretty cartoon who lost any intellectuality. I realize this is only a cartoon character but it is one of many other figures that children follow adamantly who send the wrong message.
Um Mattel, there appears to be one teensy tiny little thing you forgot: this is is Dora THE EXPLORER no? So why the hell is the new Dora dressed like she is ready to walk into a mall. We want to encourage kids to go outside and EXPLORE nature not encourage them to value material possessions and consumerism. Not cool Mattel.
Kids don't watch Dora past the age of five. Why change her??????

My daughter loves Dora and i let her see the picture of the "new" Dora she looked back at me and her eyes that said "who the fuck is that mom"
I told her thats the new Dora and i swear to you not she looked pissed, then i told her i was kidding and showed her the old Dora, she was happy again and pointed to it yelling Dora.

I thought Dora looked fine before. The only ppl that watch the show are very small children b/c well, they're the only ones that can actually stand to watch it. And her look was very age appropiate for the shows agegroup.
The makeover isn't bad, it's just entirely unncessary.

Mattel's reasoning for a 'tween Dora is because those toddlers and small girls grow up and move away from Dora. After age 5-6, Dora fans drop her like a hot potato.
With a 'tween Dora, those growing girls get a Dora they can relate to. And Mattel can keep selling the brand beyond the kindergarden set.

I dunno about all this body dysmorphia talk. I mean. kids do that, they get a little chubby (no, not ALL kids but I do see it more often than not) off and on as they grow. I always see it as having something to grow into...altho I WILL say - that tween times always seem to be the chubbiest for girls, particularly, who are going to move that fat around to make hips and boobs...
But, over all, I don't think new Dora is THAT thin...
