Natasha Richardson Is On Her Way To Another Hospital
Friends of Natasha Richardson have told the New York Post that she is brain dead after falling in a tragic ski accident at at the Mont Tremblant resort outside of Montreal yesterday. This hasn't been confirmed by her or Liam's reps, so I'm hoping they are completely wrong.
Natasha's husband Liam Neeson rushed from a film set in Toronto to be with her. TMZ says Natasha is on her way to a hospital , possibly one in NYC, via a private jet. A medic team boarded the flight with her.
The story is not only tragic, but very bizarre. Natasha reportedly said she was fine after she fell and tumbled down the beginners slope yesterday during a ski lesson. She even laughed and joked about it. After the accident, her instructor immediately called the ski patrol. There were no visible signs of injury. They escorted Natasha back to her room. About an hour later, Natasha complained that her head hurt. An ambulance was called to the hotel and she was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to the Hôpital du Sacre-Coeur.
UPDATE: The hospital has told TMZ that Natasha isn't brain dead. They said Natasha is currently sedated and her brain is swelling. She's traveling to another hospital for treatment. I'm going to choose to believe TMZ.

As of 7 am March 18th.......
According to sources from Fox, the 45-year-old actress is brain dead and will be transported to New York City where she will be taken off life support.
A representative from the family is expected to release a statement on Wednesday.
Natasha’s husband is actor Liam Neeson. They have two sons, Michael, 12 and Daniel, 11.
Our prayers and thoughts are with Natasha, friends and family.

March 17 (Bloomberg) -- Actress Natasha Richardson was flown to New York where family and friends are gathering for a vigil after she suffered a “devastating head injury” in a skiing accident, People Magazine reported.
Richardson, 45, was seen lying on a stretcher wrapped in blankets with her husband, actor Liam Neeson, by her side while being transferred from the Hopital du Sacré-Coeur in Montreal, People said, citing the Toronto Star.
United Press International earlier said the actress died, citing a report on OK Magazine’s Web site.

This is horrible. If TMZ is right and she's in an induced coma due to brain swelling, she's in bad shape. Brain injuries of this sort are life-threatening, and even if she recovers it will take months and months of hospitalization and therapy before she'll be able to be up and around again. It's almost like having a stroke.
This is truly awful, and I hope everything has been exaggerated by the idiotic/unscrupulous press/blogs. She's a classy lady and a wonderful actress, and this whole thing is heartbreaking.
Not to be mean or anything, but, don't you think their family would have made a public statement already if she were alive or at least in her way to recovery? Heck, a tiny "she's alive y'all, leave us the fuck alone"?. Specially with the brain-dead / already dead rumours. Either way, this is too sad for words. :(

UPI's website has reported she has passed. Don't know how they know or what their sources are. Hope it's not true.

Brain swelling is not good. The skull is a box, they may try a procedure (surgery to remove a portion of the skull) to relieve the swelling........but there's no guarantee that would keep her alive, and if she's brain dead, what's the point? This is very sad.

Really though, if you were injured or ill in another country or city, wouldn't you just want to get home to recover/be treated if it was at all possible and safe to do so?

Natasha was on Top Chef this season having an AIDS benefit that the chefs cooked for. She was fabulous on that - the male chefs could hardly cook for panting at how hot she looked.

Anyways, she is brain dead, supposedly. She was transferred on life support so that her family and children can say their goodbyes and spend time with her(it was easier than the whole family flying there, obviously). Apparently it wasn't from her fall but rather that she had bleeding on her brain that caused her to go into a coma. I would guess that the fall was due to that and not a ski related fall. Anyways, they are going to take her off later tonight and announce it in the morning.
This is just fucking tragic. I really hope she comes out of it. I read that she is on life support and will be taken off. Hope it's not true though.

Interesting. The toronto star says she was on a beginners hill having a private lesson and that "Lacasse said Richardson was not wearing a helmet and did not collide with anything when she fell."
Unless it was a freak accident it doesn't sound like she could be injured so badly as to be brain dead from the details above. Provided there were no pre-existing conditions lurking....
Montreal has world class hospitals and specialists. I can't believe they would allow her to be transported if she had a serious brain injury. That would just be plain stupid. Unless she IS brain dead then it doesn't really matter except which country gets the organs.

I posted something stupid earlier and have since deleted it. From what I found out since then, MONTREAL IS AS GOOD as anyplace in the US for neurological issues. This really, really sucks.

I hope it really is "only" brain swelling, a German highprofile politician survived a similar accident in January - the I don't feel anything symptoms exactly the same - he was put into artificial coma for 2 weeks and is on the road to recovery without any permanent damage expected. So there's hope for Natasha, really I so wish it turns out well for her and her family. BTW The woman this guy collided with died on the way to hospital. None wore a helmet. Skiing is a highly dangerous sport with slopes being crowded well beyond their capacities. Get a grip and effing wear a helmet!!!!

I was so sad when I heard she was in bad condition when it first happened. I really hope she gets better. It would be tragic to see a beautiful wonderful actress, who is no skank and has never had any bad press not recover from this. My best wishes go out to her friends and family.

There's so many conflicting reports. Seems like the dooms sayers are trying to be the first to report the worst. The whole thing is sad. She is a wonderful actress. Love her and her husband.
God, I want SO hard to believe that it's brain swelling and she is not brain dead. But one thing gives me pause--if she is indeed suffering from swelling of the brain, wouldn't flying cause the swelling to worsen?
I pray that this was a relatively small accident blown out to tragic proportions by rumours and "sources".
It's actually very common in brain injuries for the real symptoms not to show up immediately. Thankfully, that story makes it really doubtful that she is brain dead. It probably indicates what TMZ said, that there is a lot of swelling, possibly bleeding too. Especially in older people, brain injuries from bleeding often will take some amount of time to even show symptoms. We'll need more details, but I'm definitely hoping she'll be okay.
On another note, this is why I don't ski, even though I live in Colorado. People get completely fucked up from all kinds of injuries all the time, especially brain stuff.

Knew a person on the ski team in HS who lost control and smashed into a tree. Very sad. So young.
I really wish the media would get the story straight...How can they go from, she is going to be okay, to she is brain dead?? I hope she is going to be fine...What the hell kind of beginner slope was that? This is one of the reasons why I refuse to ski. I went snowboarding once & thankfully I didnt kill myself by being a supreme klutz.
