It Must Be True Love
First of all, Mickey Rourke must be washing his face in the ice-cold blended soft bones of fetuses every night, because his mug doesn't look like a Michael Myers mask that was left out in the sun too long. Mickey's actually looking good (insert awkward pause and question mark here).
Second of all, this is what true love looks like. Mickey and Jaws are just hanging out at LAX, canoodling, making out, being adorable and sprinkling love all over the place. Wait. Jaws is like half blind or something, right? That would explain it all.
My chihuahua will only let me hold him like this when I'm wasted. He must love the smell of hot booze on my breath. It reminds him of his whore mother who he still holds a place in his heart for even though her trick ass abandoned him! Yes, I went there.

kiwi,
I am in Canada. It is an easy $20 or more for salmon oil. Funny considering I live in the salmon province.
Poor little dude.
OK, pic just showed up. Nice fur baby. Previous owners should be shot for abandoning her little soul and breaking her heart after a lifetime of her loving them. Assholes. I swear it makes me so mad. I can't fucking talk about it or I just go off the deep end. I mean it when I say, bless you for giving her good times in her last years and taking care of her. I hate to think of a dog leaving earth having been betrayed and only knowing the worst of what people have to offer. Every time I think of London or all the other little dogs these celebs carry for a week or two, I'm really happy when someone like Brit goes to shit and is broke and doing candy's ads. Fucking whore.

. Fish oils are also good but very expensive. A bit of tuna and olive just as effective at a fraction of the price. If his back legs are bothering him you have to get his weight down.
*****
Wonder why the fish oil so dear in england? I can get a huge, I mean year supply, of mercury free capsules from some place like Whole Foods for 5.99-11.99. Its their 365 brand. And when I'm in NZ, they're pretty cheap too, but hate buying there as i worry like hell about the wonky stuff we get down there from asia.
Ok, you've inspired me to make him loose weight. I don't think his back legs bother him, it's just after the surgery he drags it. It's a well-known phenomenon, dropped leg syndrome or something. I would love to give him pot, but too much to risk. Poor guy.
kiwi,
Done!
Glucosamine can help but yams are just as effective. Fish oils are also good but very expensive. A bit of tuna and olive just as effective at a fraction of the price. If his back legs are bothering him you have to get his weight down.
I know, I feel funny buying drugs for my dog and my bf is a cop! Says, just don't tell me where you keep it. Ha.
I know, I wish I could hunt the mofo's down.
east end, post us a pic of your doggie. I'm dying to see his little soul now.
A part of me feels like my dog is just going to be stoned his whole life and not enjoying it like he should. That makes me sad.
Have you tried fish oil and supplements like...shit I can't think of the name. Glucosamine?
kiwikim- lift your dogs head so he is in the howling position and drop the pill straight down his throat. Usually, they have to swollow it but sometimes they still end up spitting it back up.

Way better than pumping them up with prescription meds. Even aforementioned dumbass vet thinks so
*****
I totally agree. It would be hard to get my husband to agree and risk loosing much for buying. The surgery was horrible. We were kind of pushed into it. We thought we were getting him the best care in the country. But now he drags his back leg from surgery and still has little spasms.
Your dog's story makes me so sad. WTF? How can you just give away your best friend just when he needs you most. Fucking assholes.
Kiwi,
For a little guy like yours 1/2 a bud in your hand, he will eat it or in his food. No need for the extra treats.
Way better than pumping them up with prescription meds. Even aforementioned dumbass vet thinks so!
I also give him daily massages and take him to acupuncture, but not too often. He hates it as it was in the place where he got his surgery.
My dog is in pain too. He's on gabepentin which I have to have formulted into small enough doses because the greedy pharmaceutical companies in the states that used to make 100mg caps which I cut in half stopped making them as they were for vet use only at that dose. How do you treat him with pot? Blow it in his face or feed it to him?
Problem as of late with mine is that I've got to give him tons of treats to give him his 3x dose of meds and it's making him fat which is hard on his knees and back.
kiwikim,
I fell in love with his picture online. Wasn't until I went to the shelter to meet him that I found out he had been there for six months! Turned out by his last owners because of his arthritis. When I brought him home he was on three legs. Regular exercise and good food soon sorted that! He is in all over body pain at night which I treat with pot.
When it is time for another one I will definitely look at only the older dogs. Besides, no house training! :)

Oh, bless you bless you. The old ones and sick ones have a really hard time don't they?
There were two weimereiners at a shelter here last year. They were 9 or 10. Their owners told the shelter they'd gotten two puppies and it was time to give up the old guys. Apparently they just keep their dogs until they are ten and then dump them and get new puppies. If I were ruler of the world, I'd kill people like this.
AWWW EEG and he loves you too. And he knows he's special cuz you picked him out. They know this stuff. I love dogs cuz their so goofy.

I think I was spending around $11 US a bag and he ate one about every 2.5 to three weeks , but yeah, think it would get out of control if he were a pit bull or something. Now I'm buying him one of those pre-cooked antibiotic free chickens and making him a little rice and potato with it. He needs a little grain or he won't poo.
Not to bag on pit bulls. My brother has a pit bull rescue. She had been abandoned behind a factory by a gang that used her for breeding-a few litters they guess and she was only two. They'd cut off he ears to mark her. She was emaciated and starving. She's a good girl, but best to just be around my brother. She's still skittish around everyone else after three years. My chin growled and snapped at her because he's jealous of me loving anyone but him or having another dog in the house and she just ran off.
Zappy,

I lurves him.
EEG
I considered goin raw whenI first got him..I wanted to, but the vet was like no.. I cook for him and it can sometimes be a pain inthe ass.
..BUT I love him so I deal.
I'm glad your dog does well on it.

This was at one of the teaching vet schools in the country-very respected. They have no food to sell. I'd gone in there because my dog had been really abused, they'd busted all the discs in his back, 28 of 32. Yeah, know what you're getting into with a rescue. I knew my dog had problems and spent 7k on his vet bills last year. But I knew no one else would take him with his problems, so I recused him and helped him. The back surgery wasn't great so I don't know if the advice they gave me re the pet food was any good either. Anyway, if you're young I'd recommend a puppy, but one that can live in an apartment with you. I like bostons, had mine for 16 years and he died three days after I was married. But I was very allergic to him and had to get shots to keep him. Chins aren't yippy like little dogs, very buddhist in my opinion, showing me mellow happy ways to live and enjoy.
But honestly, all dogs are a gift. But they'll be happiest if you can spend time with them and don't treat them like "just a dog". Take them into your family. It's a real life style adjustment and hard for us with travel, but I mean it when I say I don't know what I'd do without my dog. I'm like Mickey in that I'm better when around him most of the time.
@ EEG how old is yer puppy dog? When I'm home, the dog thinks I'm his personal valet and he wants to go out every five minutes. GRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Stares at old dog who eats raw chicken EVERY DAY and never sees the stupid vet who told me to put him down.
My vet said NO to the raw feeding too and he's my neighbor so I trust him...I cook for my dog..chick, sweet potato, broccoli and a bunch of other stuff.
Pretty much what we eat, just no salt and shit.

also- i feed my dog iams puppy for large breeds. the vet approved and i have had no problems. also it only cost me about $20/ mo.

'fuck you guys. i'm goin' home.'
kiwikim,
Natures Variety is one of the more expensive products available.
Vets say that to scare you and therefore buy their food. Dogs intestinal tracks are too small for salmonella to be an issue.
I am not a fan of small breeds but Chins are lovely.
i looove my pup! MUAH!
he was a rescue.
and yes, make sure you know what your getting into. my pup is a handful, let me tell ya!

'fuck you guys. i'm goin' home.'
I'm torn about the raw meat thing. I was giving my dog 'nature's variety" raw meat which is new zealand venison or chicken mixed with a lot of other good things like flax seed and blueberry all ground up into little patties. But my vet said no. Salmonella was a big issue for dogs. Now I just buy a chicken at the store once a week and give it to him.
If you live in an apartment, may I recommend a japanese chin? I have a chin and he's a very good dog. They don't even bark when people come to the door. They were bred by buddhist monks from the chinese kitchen dog. The monks bred the chin and the tibetan hound. Chin's were their companion dogs and the hounds were there guard dogs. They gave them to many visiting dignitaries so the papillon, laso apso, king charles cavalier, etc are all descended from them. And as far as allergies-they have hair, NOT Fur. I had a boston terrier for 16 years and was allergic. No probems with the chin, but he'll loose a lot of his hair at the beginning of summer.
They just got a bunch of puppies from a mill at chin rescue. Here is the list at petfinder:
http://www.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi?pet.Animal=&pet.Breed=japanes...
but RESEARCH a breed, before you adopt! many people do not do this, and then blame the dog when they can't handle it!

Charles and fire cat.
There are plenty of puppies available from rescue as they are going around and getting them from puppy mills now. Go to petfinder.com and put in the breed you want. Also they just rescued like 2000 dogs from a puppy mill breeder somewhere west (kansas maybe) and there are a TON of toy breed puppies in need of rescue as of this week.
I love him and he is looking hot!

Charles- I have 2 bostons and a pug, all from rescue. Puppies are adorable but there are a lot of reasons to go through a rescue, besides the obvious.
1. You already know how big they'll get
2. You already know if they'll have any genetic health issues
3. They're already house trained, vaccinated and fixed
4. They really seem grateful for a good home

KD,
NO rice! No grains of any kind. They do not have the digestive tracks to digest properly, which is why you end up with big stinky poos.
Fergs poos are the size of a chihuahuas, one of the many benefits of raw!
My apologies for sounding fanatical but it saved his life. (or at least extended it)
But if I could get ground meat for that cheap, I'd probably do that.
The only thing that bothers me about Mickey and his dogs... are his other dogs. Why does he only favour one at a time? Or so it would seem. His other dogs just seem to be there living in his house. I mean why not mix it up.. I never see him walking around with his pug or the white fluff ball Ruby. Also he apparently lost a dog on Dec. 28th and it just was all yeah ok... no one even knows what the dog's name was FFS!!!
EEG- I got a 50 or so lb bag of food for $36 and it's lasted him 5 weeks or so. It seems pretty good, too. It is chicken and rice. No corn. I might get the lamb and soy one next time, to see how it is. not sure.
No takers from my allergy question?

Seems like Loki dying is the best thing to ever happen to Jaws.

It would seem so. Sadly.
Apparently Mickey has a shrine to Loki in his house and one of her dad, Bo Jack who was Mickey's main homey before he died and Loki stepped in as his HBIC.
I miss Loki.
KD,
I buy ground chicken because I can get it for $1.19 a pound.
They also need red meat though so he gets ground lamb or moose as a treat or organs. I mainly give his red meat through his bones, whatever is in the cheap bin at the supermarket.
I honestly spend only about $16 a week to feed his 80 pound furry ass.
I hope I can be a cinderella of someone. My friend recommend me a millionaire dating site

EEG- what kind of raw meat do you give? Is 80% ground chuck good?
My uncle (a holistic veterinarian) told me to give my dog at least a half a cup of veggies to my dog a day.
He also says to not vaccinate until 14 weeks, and only give distemper and parvo (and rabies, but I think they give that one later). But I'm sure that will be controversial among some people.

get a mutt then you're always surprised

Clarisse-sounds expensive!
My bunny doesn't lick me often, but when he does, I'm worried that he's going to chomp down on me because I smell like apple juice or something.
KD,
Raw meat. 75% meat, 25% veg, a bit of olive oil. A bone once or twice a week.
2% of your dog's body weight. Less if a senior, more if nursing or a puppy.
My old boy is 80 pounds and gets just over a pound a day.
Cheaper than the highest grade of commercial food as well!
Haribo,
I won't even let my rabbit lick near my mouth, cuz he eats poo directly out of his booty!! EW.
KD,
LOL! It's Raw feeding.

Since this in now a doggy thread, does anyone know why I am allergic to Dauschunds, but not my Golden Retreiver? Everyone in my fam have doxies, too. And if I'm allergic to them, which other dogs will I be allergic to? I'm probably getting another puppeh soon and I don't want to get one that I can't keep!
EEG- What do ya mean by Raw? Is that a brand, or do you mean raw meat??
Lol, I used to have 17 dogs at home, and they were all shitzus so you can imagine the fuckery going home to find hairballs all over the place. We eventually had to give most of them away 'coz it was crazy. I got to admit though, my heart went with them. Love 'em to death but brushing their teeth was the worst part of my day.
