Bea Arthur Has Gone To Heaven....
I was just got back from boozing in the sun to find my e-mail box filled with the terrible and heartbreaking news that the iconic Bea Arthur has went off to the great big lanai in the sky at the age of 86. I was not ready for this!
A rep for Bea said she died peacefully in her sleeping this morning at home. Bea had cancer, but her rep didn't give any specific details as to the cause of her death. Her personal assistant, Dan Witt, said, "She was a brilliant and witty woman. Bea will always have a special place in my heart." In mine as well.
Some know Bea for her role as Maude, but I know her as one of my best late-night friends, Dorothy Zbornak on Golden Girls. Seriously, I feel like I lost one of my bestest friends! After coming home from a drunken night, I could always count on Bea and company to lullaby me to sleep with their brilliant and touching way with comedy.
Thank you for being a friend, Bea. You will be missed and your genius will live on forever! I mean that. And tell "ma" we all said "Hi."
Now if you'll excuse me, I must drown the pain away with something strong. Maybe a cheesecaketini. Rest in peace, Bea.....

"You'll have to excuse my mother. She suffered a slight stroke which has left her, if I can be frank, a complete burden."
Dorothy: "You know what the joke going around the teacher's lounge was today? Me!"
Sophia: "I know that joke."
Lol! Those two were absolutely classic together! I bet they're in heaven crackin' jokes.
Thanks for the laughs, Bea!
OMG. I read that she had died on earlier today and I immediately thought, How is Michael K. doing. I don't even know you, but have lurked for years. I am sorry for your loss.

the golden girls added slut to my english vocabulary. I used to have the TV on all the time to help get used to how damn fast you native speakers speak, and the GG were on a few times a day, as was MASH. Watching them all the time helped me learn to pay attention to inflections and other langauge cues in English, as well as expressions. I heard the word slut a few times, so I looked it up, thanks to Dororthy and Sophia. This is quite sad news :(. Rest in Peace you talented broad.

Dorothy: You'll have to excuse my mother. She suffered a slight stroke a few years ago which rendered her totally annoying.

Wow, I'm old enough to have watched Maude when it was first on the air. I was pretty little, but it made a BIG impression on me. It was a sit-com debate about a lot of women's issues---"Women's Lib" and the E.R.A. being popular issues of the time.
Maybe Maude's themes were too adult for me, but I always wanted to be Maude. She was strong, smart, witty, and dry as a bone.
I was a part of a group of 4 friends in high school, and we would compare our personalities to the Golden Girls. I was always Dorothy, everyone thought so.
She really was my hero. I will miss her terribly. R.I.P, Bea. And thanks for the years of fantastic, free entertainment.
I agree that this may be MK's most genuinely touching post ever.
FUCK!
This really sucks.
RIP, Ms Arthur.
I was riding this nice happy high after watchiing the Cardinals beat the Cubs, but then I got hit with this :( Dorothy was always my favorite GG, and when 3 of my friends and I shared an apartment, my friends called us the Golden Girls. And I was Ms. Zbornak. Bea had talent and didn't need to fit into the typical female-lead image. She's one of the original hot sluts, and that's saying a lot. We'll miss you Bea!

86 is a ripe old age. We should all be so lucky to live that long!
I did enjoy her on Maude - those pants suits and jackets were hilarious.
Didn't know her personally so can't say I'm gutted at her passing though.

Very sad news.
At least Bea and Estelle are together now.
I hope the day when Betty and Rue join them doesn't come too soon. :(

Awww, RIP, Bea.
What a fine actress and an even better human being. You'll be missed, Bea.
I've seen her stage performances "And Then There's Bea" and "An Evening with Bea Arthur." She was amazing. In one performance, she ended the show with the theme from Maude.
Loved her in Golden Girls. She was absolutely perfect as Dorothy Zbornak.
Sadness. RIP, Bea.
My world has just crumbled beneath me. I am so fucking sad right now. What a tragedy for The Golden Girls. God I loved Dorothy Zbornak. What a sarcastic bitch!! Always my idol.
Saw Betty White on a recent ep of my name is earl. She was great as a witch.

I'm watching that episode right now!!!!!
Rose: Can I ask a dumb question?
Dorothy: Better than anyone I know.
Blanche Devereaux: Ah! Look at the shameless way she's flirtin' with him... Dis-gustin'!
Rose Nylund: You flirted with him.
Blanche Devereaux: I'm from the South. Flirting is part of my heritage.
Rose Nylund: What do you mean?
Dorothy Petrillo-Zbornak: Her mother was a slut too.
Oh Bea! The world will be a lot less funny without you! Rest in peace love.

Good times still to come.

Dorothy on Blanche:

The marines are looking for a few good men who have NOT slept with Blanche Devereaux!'
Dorothy on Sophia:

Dorothy on Rose:
'Rose, I know this is a long shot, but did you take much acid during the sixties?'
Good times.

This made me cry. Here's to you Bea, you'll be missed. _____________________________________________
My feelings are sensitive.
I think this post is the sweetest, most honest thing I have ever read on this blog.
Aw, that's sad. That was a good show...except for that cheesecake bit...Oh that used to make me SO ANGRY as a tv watchin' tiger cub...They would have their cheesecake and I would CRAVE cheesecake like the dickens, but would Mama Tiger have any cheesecake in da house???? HELL TO THE NAW! Cruelty to animals on both sides! But I'll forgive Dorothy and Sophia...I'm still giving the side eye to Rose and Blanche...And I will always hold a grudge against Mama Tiger like a real daughter should....What's a mother-daughter relationship without lifelong grudges????

Sorry, Roger, you are tiger now...
Yes, Hollywood is sad tonight! I just talked to Grapedrinkbaby and she is sooooo upset.

Shady Pines Ma, Shady Pines. Man o man, I am so sad now. So sad to see her go. ...and then there's Maude... so sad.
awww!!!! She lives across the street from my husband's parents :( I just told him, he's so bummed! He knew her his whole life. RIP Bea.
My boyfriend called me and he told me a half hour ago :( My best friend Jen and I have spent many nights amusing ourselves with episodes of GG from our DVD collection. I don't really feel grief over a celebrity's death usually but I sure did for Estelle and I sure do for Dorothy :( RIP Mrs. Zbornak!!
::"You backstabbing two-timing scallywag! And as God as my witness, I will never shampoo your hair again!" - Blanche Deveraux::
"God will get you for that, Walter".
RIP Bea Arthur..... Maude taught a lot of young girls to think outside the box. I can't say that I watched many Golden Girl episodes, but I will eat cheesecake in your honor tonight.
Rest in peace. :(
