Bea Arthur Has Gone To Heaven....
I was just got back from boozing in the sun to find my e-mail box filled with the terrible and heartbreaking news that the iconic Bea Arthur has went off to the great big lanai in the sky at the age of 86. I was not ready for this!
A rep for Bea said she died peacefully in her sleeping this morning at home. Bea had cancer, but her rep didn't give any specific details as to the cause of her death. Her personal assistant, Dan Witt, said, "She was a brilliant and witty woman. Bea will always have a special place in my heart." In mine as well.
Some know Bea for her role as Maude, but I know her as one of my best late-night friends, Dorothy Zbornak on Golden Girls. Seriously, I feel like I lost one of my bestest friends! After coming home from a drunken night, I could always count on Bea and company to lullaby me to sleep with their brilliant and touching way with comedy.
Thank you for being a friend, Bea. You will be missed and your genius will live on forever! I mean that. And tell "ma" we all said "Hi."
Now if you'll excuse me, I must drown the pain away with something strong. Maybe a cheesecaketini. Rest in peace, Bea.....

I'm really heartbroken from this. I can't believe it. I just do not want to believe this is true :( ... She was such a great woman.
I've always admitted that I'm ruled by my passions.

Maude's fights with Archie were the stuff of legends!

In the words of the immortal Blanche Deveraux, I am devastated. Just devastated. Devastated is the only way to describe how DEVASTATED I am. Truly.
RIP Bea. You were in a class unto yourself, and I know you're sitting up there and laughing your ass off at all the whoring young celebutantes who could only ever DREAM of possessing even a modicum of your great talent.
Goddamn. This fucking sucks. :(

Trying to keep that resolve up....but man this is rough.
RIP Bea. So many of us keep got our strength and sharp tongues from you. And will continue to do so.
SF will mourn tonight for ya at the bars.
This is incredibly sad news. She was a very funny, talented, classy woman. Rest in peace, Bea.
A beautiful lady, an inspiration.

I hope she got her head frozen.
Nooooo!!! Too sad. May she rest in peace.
The Golden Girls is seriously one of the best TV shows ever. I remember fighting w/my friends in college to decide which one of us was Dorothy, Rose and Blanche. I got mad when it was decided that I was Rose; I really wanted to be Dorothy! Much beer was involved in that episode...
Sigh.

O how I love that movie!
Bea Arthur was always like a special treat. So not all in your face with her greatness but she would show up and lend polish and always be so pleasing!...*sigh* I remember this old, old Mystery show that used to run reruns - like Twilight Zone with the different stories and characters...she was awesome in those!

She will be missed. RIP, Bea.

NO! No, not Bea. Not Dorothy. I was dreading this day. I knew it would come, all the GG's are (were in their 80's). I wanted them to be immortal, couldn't bare the thought of them not being around. Bea was my favourite GG, although I loved them all. There is noone, and I mean NOONE who can match Bea's style of comedy. She was an original. She had wit, charm, intelligence and style.
Love you Bea, will miss you. Thanks for the years of laughs and memories.

That's a shame. I still can't believe that the Golden Girls aren't still in their mid-60s.

Rest easy, Bea.

If we weren't all crazy, we would go insane.
From Archie Bunker to Rose Nyland, she always was their perfect foil.
Rose : "That's what the crow said!"
Dorothy: "GET OUT!!!"
What horrible news!
It will make watching the Golden Girls pretty sad for the next couple of days : (
RIP Bea!

And then there's Maude!
R.I.P Bea. You will be missed.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be Maude when I grew up. I LOVED her. And I loved her calf length vests. Very sad.

Sad news. And then there were two...
NOBODY could deliver deadpan like Bea. She lived a long, full life and was supremely talented. That wisecracking, foul-mouthed old broad left her mark and will be missed greatly.

RIP Ms. Arthur. I loved your work.
I heard she was gay and I heard she was straight. Did she have any kids? Anyone know? Yeah, yeah, I'm too lazy to Wiki or IMDB it.

My favorite hot bitch of them all. I loved the way Dorothy would glare over her coffee cup when someone (usually Rose) said something stupid. Just her looks could crack me up.
I have to be honest, I shed a tear. RIP Bea...
I always envision my mother and I will be just like Dorothy and Sophia someday. I hope you gals are having a great reunion in heaven. You're both missed!

I love her too Michael K! I'm sure going to miss her too . . .
Back in 1983 - when we were happily married to our gorgeous blond horse-hung husband(and enjoying that meat twice per day) - we both went to studio one to see Charles Pierce. After the show we spotted Bea and Norman Lear at a small table. We went up to Bea and said she made us so happy with her work. Bea (who was about three sheets to the wind) looked into our eyes and said "Oh, thank you" with terrible intensity.
