Thank You For Being A Friend!

Bea Arthur really did tango off to heaven yesterday. My soul is still weeping. Mostly because it hit me out of nowhere. And also, Bea was a true talent in every sense of the phrase. The simple fact is that Bea just wanted to entertain and didn't give ten shits about being famous. A born performer who didn't take herself too seriously. There really aren't many like her left.

Yesterday, both Betty White and Rue McClanahan released statements about the passing of their friend.

Betty told ET, "I knew it would hurt, I just didn't know it would hurt this much.. I'm so happy that she received her Lifetime Achievement Award while she was still with us, so she could appreciate that. She was such a big part of my life. I have dearly loved her for a very long time. How lucky I was to know her."

Rue told Radar, "Thirty-seven years ago she showed me how to be very brave in comedy. I'll miss that courage and I'll miss that voice."

I'll miss her voice too. It always lulled me to sleep. I raised a dozen glasses to her last night and I'll raise a dozen more today!

Even my dad, who makes fun of me watching Golden Girls but is a GG closet case, shed a tear! So long, Bea...You were like an abrasive but loving step mom to me!

COME AT ME, BITCH!

I really thought that bea would be the last to go, she was only just given the lifetime achievement award and didn't think it would be so close to estelle's passing :(
I received so many msges from friends to tell me she had died, because they all know how much i love GG. so very sad.
I can't believe I will now be watching it knowing that half of them are gone :(

Oh no. This is the first I'm hearing of this. I was getting a wee glow on, drinking my wine. What a buzz-kill. I'll miss her :( It's funny...we watch the shows so much that we feel like we know them a little. RIP Dorthy Zbornak, my favorite Golden Girl :(

I'm still in mourning so I had to bring out one of my favorite Dorothy & Sophia exchanges...

Sophia: Do you wanna know why I call you pussycat, pussycat?

Dorothy: Why Ma? Because you only gave me yarn for Christmas? Because you fed me once and I hung around? Because you used to put me out at night?

Sophia: No. Because I love pussycats and I love you.

And you were the only one in the family who could catch mice.

I was so sad when I head she died. It was like when I heard John Ritter had died. I loved Bea Arthur. Dorothy was always my favorite on the Golden Girls. I watch re-runs every night. I love cheesecake because of them. R.I.P. Bea.

The woman was amazingly TALENTED!!. That's a word not to frequently used anymore. She had this great comedic timing that is unheard of today.

She would give Rue or Betty that look and without even uttering a word, you would crack up because whatever she had to say was so hilarious.

As the saying goes. Talented stars don't die, they just fade into our hearts. I'm glad I can still enjoy her work anytime in reruns.

Thanks for all the laughs.

Wow..

Never enough Bea posts. If MK wanted to change his blog name to Bea-listed, I would sign on every 30 minutes.

The world is just less fabulous now that she's not in it.

Guess we all have to go sometime!! 86 is a long life. She was a great actress and funny too. The golden girls will be on the air for a long time, even though it stopped taping eons ago. RIP Bea!!

Farewell, funny lady. The world has truly lost an amazing talent.

Several years ago, when Lucille Ball died at Cedars-Sinai in L.A., I thought an era had ended - and it had to a certain extent, as no one can come close to the talent that was Ms. Lucille Ball. But it was easier to digest the news that she had passed, with the knowledge that women like Bea Arthur were still with us and allowing us to share in their talent for making us laugh and forget about our own mundane problems. Now that Ms. Arthur has passed, who is left to "carry the torch" as it were? The only two names that I can even equate to Beas talent are Carol Burnett and Betty White. When both of these other funny - and just as talented - ladies leave us, who is left? None of the current "stars" are fit to carry these ladies' used Kleenex. Sadly, the age of talent, brilliant comic timing, and class have all but died. Sadness. ::sigh::

I still can't (don't want to) believe it. Bea seemed almost immortal to me, I hoped she would live on forever. It sounds silly but I loved her so much that I never wanted to face the day when she wasn't around. I didn't know her of course but I felt like I did. She has been a huge part of my TV life and it felt like she was a friend. I would have LOVED to have met her. I probably would have been a babbling wreck lol. She was just so awesome.

Love you Bea.

SO true about not taking herself seriously and being a true entertainer. She was in the marine corps and was also on an epsisode of Judge Judy (which I would pay money to see a rerun)She is one of my favorites and one of the most interesting people in Hollywood. So witty and funny.

RIP. Never watched any of her shows, but she seemed like a talented and classy gal. 86 is a pretty good age to die, all things considered. She obviously wasn't on the baconator/beef jerky/chicken wing diet. Sad news, though.

I'd rather see a 100 more post on Ms. Bea than one with Pammy A and her ill fitting leotard, or Wino with her gamey leg.

On a youtube Maude binge at the moment....

It will seriously take me a few days to take in this news. I of course never met her, but she was with me wherever in the world I have travelled. She made learning German that much more fun.

They don't have talent like this in Hollywood much anymore.

I don't really see anyone bitchin' about another Bea post (unless I skimmed over it), but really, it is MK's site, he can do whatever the fuck he wants.

You skimmed over it. I am not trying to start shit here. That's why I said what I said. Seems like there is tension today.

Betty's and Rue's quotes really hit it. I loved her Vera. My buddies and I still use that line: "Oh Mame, my old, old, old, old friend...."

Had a harvey wallbanger last night and toasted her and her life.

It's an overlooked role, but in addition to all her TV work, I loved her in the 70s remake of Mame.

Farewell Bea. I'm sure Estelle welcomed her to heaven.

I watched her cameo on Futurama yesterday in my own sort of memorial. Her deep voiced Femputer definitely made the Snoo Snoo episode the classic it is.

=================================================

I love that one! When Bender discovers that the Femputer is actually a Fembot, She explains her motivation for the deception on her harrowing past, living under the control on an evil Manputer who was really a Manbot:

Bea: "So, now do you understand what it's like, living as a Fembot, in a Manbot/Manputer's world?"

Bender: "What?"

I have spent all morning on YouTube, watching Bea. So many classic moments, a really big part of my life, actually. I loved all her stuff.

Homos love Bea, and kudos to MK for giving that woman the sendoff she deserves. I grew up watching this woman, and while it's phenomenal that she got to live a long life, she'll still be missed. There's no one on tv (or in film, for that matter) that even comes close to her level of talent. It pains me to think of all the greats who are slowly getting close to their time. *sigh*

My Favorite Dorothy Quote (well, one of them):

Blanche: This is strictly off the record, but Dirk is nearly five years younger than me.

Dorothy: In what, Blanche? Dog years?

God bless her soul; we've lost a well-loved and wonderful actress, and person.

Most of the people that are considered "famous" now are so very vapid and inconsequential when compared to all the talented folks that are leaving us slowly, but surely.
The days of quality have exited stage left for the most part.
