Mimis Wants That Oscar!
No, this isn't the hag at the DMV who smacked her lips at you when you didn't bring in your social security card AND birth certificate. It's Mimi! Mimi! You know, Mariah Carey. YES! I know you didn't recognize the Rainbow Butterfly Princess without her glitter domes out, but it really is her. Mimi washed away all the Hello Kitty-ness to play a period-faced guidance counselor in Precious. Mimi has come along way since her Glitter days.....
The movie also stars my favorite comic of all-time & forever Mo'Nique, Lenny Kravitz, Sherri Shepherd (ugh) and newcomer Gabby Sidibe. The trailer is below. Really, that's Mimi. If you don't believe me, release a butterfly in the room and it will immediately flutter to her when she pops up on the screen.

I read a book by the poet Sapphire called "Push" which I believe this movie is adapted from. I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THIS MOVIE!! If it is anything like the book then it is too important to miss. I am giving up to Mo'Nique and Mariah!!

I probably won't see it in the theater but wait for the DVD. WHY? The last time I went to see a "black" theamed movie in the theater, The black kids (teens and 20's mostly) looked at me with the "What's a white woman doing here?" look. Dirty looks!
Besides the looks, my friend and I got popcorn thrown at us. I live in a county that is so racially mixed that we have never had to have bussing, but I can't go to a black movie.

I totally think this movie is going to get some good recognition because it touches on almost everything in the Real Ghetto World we call life.
What I can't understand HOW the Fuck did she have one kid and be pregnat with her next baby. Who or what the hell would want to Fuck her she worse then BUTT UGLY. Ok i realize this is fiction cause not even a drunken bumb can roll over one morning and say what the hell was I on. He'd get lost in her rolls and I don't mean dinner rolls.
Aside from that it looks like a good after school special to show the kids.
That was really sad.

The book is fiction but it is based off of real life people since Sapphire (the book's author) was a teacher in Harlem and dealt with people just like Precious. Believe it or not stuff like this does happen in real life. The book is very serious and I'm surprised it was made into a movie.

Give Credit where credit is due: Everyone in the movie looks great; Mimi included. Go Mimi! She obviously looks like she did a great job in this movie, but people still have to find a way to put her down.
And I am always impressed by her willingness to de-gloss, de-photoshop herself for a role. Not many actresses are willing to do that. Very reminiscent of Bette Davis. Good for her!
