Sweetie, darling, thank God, thank, God! The American butchery of the beloved classic Absolutely Fabulous has been cooked up, sliced and snorted! Hopefully, it will never be heard from again! Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood says that Fox has shooed the pilot away, because they just didn't think it was for them. Nikki says it might have been to "femme." Does "femme" mean "watered down shit" in TV-talk, because that's why the American version didn't work.
The pilot starred Kristen Johnston and Kathryn Hahn as Patsy and Edina. The setting was moved from London to Los Angeles. Before they shot the pilot, Kristen said that the American version was definitely more PC. She said there would be less smoking and probably no coke. Translation: FAIL. The original Patsy and Edina wouldn't even be able to move without a ciggie or a snort.
Sucks for Kristen, but YAY for us. If this actually made its way onto my TV screen, I knew I just had to watch it and I was dreading it. My liver was shaking too, because it knew that I would have to consume an entire liquor store just to deal. Our beautiful memories of Patsy and Edina remain intact. Phew. It was going to get ugly.
I mean, look at the picture above. They aren't even wearing Lacroix!
Who in the hell is Katheryn Hahn? Some nobody was supposed to play our sweetie Eddie??? What kind of fuckery was that!

Patsy and Edy dahling were too fab for US viewers: everything in the US has to be sanitized and destroyed - just come up with some ORIGINAL material for heaven's sake.
Kathryn Hahn? Jesus-- if it couldn't get any worse, they cast the most annoying person on "Crossing Jordan" on this horror show? I had to turn the damn channel every time her simpering, lisping annoyingness came on that show.

Ab Fab didn't really get heavy with the drug jokes until after the first two series.
Pretty much the story of American society - can't laugh at anything anymore if it is NOT PC! Gotta love the Brits, they have a great sense of humor and virtually nothing is off the table when it comes to yuks!
Plus why don't hollyweird writers come up with some new ideas instead of ripping off old British shows. I cant watch the US version of the "Office"...

Uh... they have. Nearly entire series has been shown on Comedy Central. In fact it was first aired over 10 years ago. That's how most of us saw it the first time. Subsequent recent episodes have aired on BBC America.
And that's what I don't get. I mean I am SO glad they won't do the remake, but the fact that it succeeded here, in all it's original offensive glory, but a remake was watered down? Uh, ok.
And, just remember, you can never have enough hats gloves and shoes.

Yipee!! I was just thinking of this the other day & thought it must have been scrapped because no one, nowhere was talking about it at all. Prayers sometime do get answered! It would have just been a mockery of something so amazing. Even that pic is laughable & not in a good way.

Srsly, PBS or A&E (I'd lump Comedy Central in with that but I don't know WHAT the fuck happened to them over the past 15 years) are really the only places where good shows like these are appreciated, IMO. Everyone else is too busy either watching or trying to break into reality television and game shows.

Yes, they get paid for the pilot. Once it is created, they take it through serious testing with average people and survey them. I have done quite a few of them on pilots.
