Love and marriage interest in younger persons around the age of 12 and older was common place roughly one century ago... I'm not justifying it, but it's not something that society simply gets to vote on one day and collectively shut those feelings off.

The things that makes this more interesting is that despite her going to jail, they still got married after she was released and they both seem to be very happy with each other as man and wife.

Personally I believe if they are married and happy, then the entire point of her being tossed in jail and labeled "crazy" is moot. Lewis Carrol, Jerry Lee Lewis, and many others in our history are guilty of the same behaviors. Actually "Through The Looking Glass" known as Alice in Wonderland was an entire book devoted to Alice Liddel, a definitely underage girl whom Lewis Carrol was courting.

The difference between then and now is that the whims of society change like the direction of the wind.

Again, I'm not saying whether it is right or wrong, because honestly, the whims of society over time are always in fluctuation and what seems perverse one day (gay marriage?) may be perfectly acceptable another time.

In the end, regardless, I'm happy for them that they got married and seem to be quite happy. As for the party, it goes to show that she can stare it down and laugh. She's the one that is married and happy, and so is he - regardless of the circumstances. That's love, right there - willing to go to jail for it. Not many marriages I know of today where people would pass that test.

Wrong or not, society apparently doesn't get to decide in this case. They are now both of age and both made the same decision they did when he was under age.

Could be that they get a divorce eventually as well.. who knows? They are both adults and it's their decision, not ours. I respect that.

I don't find this amusing. Maybe they can make it charitable and donate the cover charges to the public school system. Really, there is no way she or he could get a decent job so they have to resort to this.

Well, I think this is sick but if it weren't for this, I would say leave this woman alone and that she is immature in the mind and that she wasn't trying to be a molester since she's even married to the guy still now.
