Prop 8 Stays

Why is Prop 8 such a big deal when over half of the 50 states have adopted male/female only marriages? Was it because California is a 'blue' state and things like Prop 8 aren't supposed to happen on the left coast?? Oregon, another 'blue' state, also passed a similar measure several years ago, but the reaction was mild. Bottom line - If you're gay and want to marry in the 'legal' sense, move to and live in Massachusetts or Connecticut. It makes much more sense and would be time better spent than protesting. Tell Teddy I said hello!

If you pay the same taxes that I do, then you should have the same rights that I have. Equality is so simple to understand yet so easy to corrupt.

The funny thing about those against gay marriage is they niaevly assumed that by this bigoted proposition getting passed- gays everywhere would just disappear under the biggest rock they could find. As for thsoe suggesting the movement only targets the Mormon Church due to cowardly actions, I absolutely agree that attacking the Mormon Church adn only the Mormon Church is an absolute cop-out. Bible thumping African Americans and Latinos (although only 53% of latinos were in favor of Prop 8 verses 70% of African Americans) are just as responsible, but the reoccuring theme here is church and people who demand you live your life in accordance to their beliefs/church (scary thought. Middle East, anyone?) As a minority myself (in my racial makeup), I laugh at other minorities who want to wave the civil rights banner when it pertains to their cause but as soon as another group below them is hurting, they are the first to throw mud. YOU FOOLS! People used the very same Bible to discriminate against YOU...now you earned some rights and you think you're on top of the food chain? What happened to civil rights? equality? freedom? Oh...of course, it was only served for you.

HUMANITY WILL PREVAIL.

Well said robrr1118. People are forgetting that the judges don't make laws, they only interpret them. One other statement that had me cringe earlier in these posts was that the "Mormon church had sold a bill of shit to Black church groups." Nothing of the sort happened. Mormons voted how they believed, and blacks voted how they believed. Black CHURCHES by defintion practice Christianity, and I know a lot people mold religion to suit their needs, but most church going Christians tend to be conservative and they vehemently believe that homosexuality is a sin, if not worse. To paint blacks as being led by the nose by Mormons is ludicrous. These are all Christians who believe the same thing. No one started protesting the Mormons until AFTER prop 8 passed. They weren't solely responsible for its passage. They were just mobilized enough to get their church members to vote in a small bloc. Seriously, there are 760,000 Mormons in California...less than 2% of the population--hardly enough to swing others to vote their way. Truth is, there are a lot of chruch/temple goers and a lot of socially conservative voters in California.

I dont get why people are screaming about the Supreme Court judges being homophobic or biased in any way. The case before them was if the citizens have a right to ammend the state constitution by vote instead of by bill in the legislature. They found that it was a protected right under the state constitution. It had nothing to do with what Prop 8 was about. This is all about the voters who passed the proposition, not the judges. And as some people pointed out look to the inner city population of Hispanics, African Americans, and Asians who vote democrat but come from a very traditional and religious background when it comes to these matters

That's good news about those marriages that have already taken place.
My biggest problem with this is that it shouldn't even be an issue. Churches and their religious propaganda should be separate from our State. Period. My hubby and I have been stateside earlier this year to a few demos and we'll be definitely back. This BS has to stop!
