Mike Tyson's Daughter Has Passed Away

This isn't the news any of us wanted to hear... Mike Tyson's 4-year-old daughter Exodus died today in Phoenix. Exodus was rushed to the hospital yesterday morning after she was found with a cord from a treadmill wrapped around her neck. Exodus, who had been on life support, was pronounced dead at at 11:45 this morning.

The Phoenix Police Department issued this statement to TMZ: "I was just advised by investigators that Exodus Tyson was pronounced deceased at 11:45 AM today at the hospital. Our sympathies go out to the family."

The police believe the incident was accidental.

Mike, who had rushed from Las Vegas to be with his daughter, released his own statement before Exodus passed away: "The Tyson family would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks for all your prayers and support, and we ask that we be allowed our privacy at this difficult time."

This is just so shockingly tragic that there's really not much to say. May Exodus rest in peace....

Mike Tyson has never been one of my favorites but my heart aches for him & his family. No parent should ever have to suffer the death of a child. I am a parent myself & this really upsets me (there but for the Grace of God go I, ya know?) RIP Little Exodus & God bless her family...

To switch gears slightly... somebody apologized for having made fun of her name. Well no, we shouldn't be snarking, but I think it's fair to wonder, as an aside, what gets into people's heads when they name their kids. If only because "exodus" doesn't have a terribly pleasant connotation.

-----------------------------------------------

Not all names have great connotations (Dolores means sorrow, Delilah means "one who weakens or impoverishes" but they are still used). I don't find Exodus to be all that bad. It reminds you that in suffering, there will be deliverance. That God will reward you for your suffering and patience. Perhaps it is rather fitting for this child.

I have never considered myself a fan of Mike Tyson, but for goodness sake, THIS IS NOT THE APROPRIATE TIME to let us know how much you dislike the man. HIS BABY DAUGHTER JUST DIED, YOU ASSHOLES!!

Be careful what you say in times such as these because let me tell you, KARMA IS ONE MEAN BITCH and unless you have lost a little child of your own you have no idea what the man must be feeling right now.

Have a heart and just pray for the dude and his family, will ya? One day YOU YOURSELF may need some prayers and a little bit of compassion...

Whatever, I'm A Princess. Tyson got the reputation he wanted and now he has to live with it. When a tragedy happens to your daughter and the first thing the news has to say is "The father wasn't in town at the time and the death was ruled accidental", you've dug your own hole.

Some of y'all are pathetic excuses for human beings. No matter what Mike has done, IN THE PAST...he did not deserve this. I'm not a fan of him either, but that has nothing to do with the fact that he is suffering a great loss and hateful words serve no purpose.

Sensimina's picture

The news report I heard went as far as saying "Tyson was out of town at the time of the injury"...I mean, the first thing I thought was "foul play" too. It's fucking Mike Tyson.

Tigger and NaNoop, I just did a google search and there are cords/cables leading to the console, like in this pic:

http://hastenministries.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/treadmill2.jpg

Depending on how such a cable was arranged and secured, a loop might form(?) I can see how a child might put their head through such a loop. If that was the case in this instance, one stumble and the cable could have tightened...

And, apart from the loosely arranged cable, many of the treadmill pics had a cord with a loop dangling from the centre of the console... at right about the height of a child's head. I won't draw you a picture, but one snip through the centre of the cord would eliminate any potential noose like eventualities.

I'm just guessing at how this tragedy occured and throwing some ideas out there. It does seem an unlikely chain of events, but I would hate to see any child repeat what apparently happened to Exodus.

Wow this is sad.

And tredmills can be seriously dangerous for kids. Now I shudder at all the times myself, my siblings and cousins played with the tredmill at my grandmother's place. We used to turn it up to the highest speed and see who could stay on the longest. Luckily we never seriously hurt ourselves, but once one of my cousins was on the tredmill at the highest speed and she tripped and landed horizonatally on the tredmill before being flung off it. She had some bad grazes but she was ok.

♪ Children die every single day from accidents, they are just not reported via wide media. But they should be done so that parents can be aware of such things, like cords on treadmills.

I'll be nice with my wording since a child has died. ~~~~~~ Never really cared for Mike Tyson or his actions against women and biting that dudes ear while fighting in a match. So screw him. I hope the rest of the family finds their strength at this time. & RIP little one ````````

It can happen in a heartbeat. My daughter is 31 now, happy, healthy and she just had our first grandchild. But I still remember when I was giving her a bath and she was just old enough to sit up and splash the water when the phone rang. I was only on the phone for a moment or two, then hung up to check on her again (this was many years before you could take the phone with you) but when I came back, she'd slipped under the water and was lying flat on her back.

Thank god she'd closed her mouth. Her eyes were wide and she was flinging her arms about wildly but she had no idea how to sit up. I snatched her up and held her tight while she burst out wailing.

I cried too.

Can happen in a heartbeat. To any mother.

Be careful.

My heart goes out to the family of this little girl. Maybe especially to her brother who found her. This is going to affect him deeply.

I just never thought those parts were very "plugged in" I mean, like the weight of a small dog would disengage it? I mean the one I've been exposed to, I guess that could happen...Yeah, I guess cuz kids don't put stuff on the way it's supposed to be on and if she did that and turned the treadmill on...No, I still can't picture it in my mind. I just need to see a treadmill to get it and I don't have one handy...

Me neither. I agree with you- I would like to know some more details in the interest of NOT having something like that ever happen to one of my kids. I also have a 4 year old, and a 2 year old so this situation is very scary. Seems so unlikely a way to die, but apparently it can happen. I want to know more so I can use it as a cautionary lesson.

I can picture the cord that goes from the display to the part where it gets the information (speed/incline/etc) and my guess is she had the thing running and spinning and maybe she lost her footing or it was too fast or something and couldn't get her footing back on the spinning mat or maybe it was inclined steep and she couldn't get back up on it. Just my own 2 cent theory as to how she couldn't get out of the loop and got strangled.

I love how MSNBC has the words tragic accident in fucking quotations, like they are trying to insinuate that foul play was involved. Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but I think it's a little offensive. Insensitive douchebags.

I hope that's the case and they don't know something we don't...Ugh, that makes me sick to think about...
I just did find it strange that someone as old as 4 would be in this situation, and I don't understand what cord on a treadmill she got entangled in enough to kill her....
I'm not saying anything is amiss...I just think we all assume kids are safe at a certain age when they might not be? It's scary really, but I think we all want answers in how this particular incident went down so WE can prevent it.

Hey, Hotmami, I think they might be quoting what the law enforcement are deeming this as. It has been made clear by the police that there was no crime thought to be involved and that the incident is just a sad turn of events.
I can't even imagine how this must hurt as a parent.

I musta got confused about the "released his own statement" part.....

*************************************************

Mike is not a tactful eloquent kind of guy...People speak for him if and when he ever speaks well...just like ANY star...They ALL have statements written PR professionals...

Yeah, that's MT PR...Someone of the ilk of Mike Tyson, convicted rapist, who by the way has a bio-pic to promote and a cameo or two in upcoming films, isn't going to take a piss without PR. TRUST.
I'm sorry if that sounds cynical, but if it doesn't sound like something Mike would say, it's cuz it isn't.
And again, I don't blame him under the circumstances. He should let his PR folks write him a statement because god only knows what any of us would spew out under such tragic circumstances.
