Well, you're in luck, because here's a little article that will get them rolling. Feminist Naomi Wolf wrote a piece for Harper's Bazaar about how Saint Angelina Jolie is the greatest thing since self-lubricating dildos. Slip on your sweat band, it's time for eyeball calisthenics again!
The piece is titled: "Why Women Want Angelina Jolie's Life"
Angie is the most gorgeous woman on the planet: "Bosomy and wasp-waisted, with that curtain of hair and those crazy pillowy lips, she is an obvious male sex fantasy...Polls also show that if women — not just lesbian and bisexual women but straight women — had to choose a female lover, they would want to sleep with Angelina Jolie. Just substitute the name "Angelina Jolie" for "Shauna Sand" and this entire essay would make sense.
And just for the record, as a strictly dickly bitch, I can say that Angelina Jolie is not the chick I'd go lesbian for. Her vagina would probably cast a spell on more or take a chunk out of my taint. No gracias.

If one of my daughters turned out like angie jo I would feel I had failed as a parent.

As you can all see, I hate ZiggyStardust but she's kinda making a point here. I like the fact that Naomi makes a point of mentioning "psychoanalysts" too...it's true: Angelina doesn't do these things for women who feel strong in their role as women - she does it for neurotic women. Women who feel weak and hopeless. Camon people! We've all been to JJ. Naomi's GOT to be on to something here becuz those loons LOVE LOVE LOVE this bitch! Why? I think Naomi's tryna figure that out.
My problem is "Why didn't they balance this article with discussion about the haters." What does she represent for us? One salient point jumps out at me, so I'll comment on it: One description that is glaringly MISSING from all that Jolie "is"?
A FRIEND.
Nowhere, ever, have I read anything about this woman having friendships. Does she have any? When a woman has no female friends, THAT speaks louder to the rest of her gender than almost anything.

I don't really have any interest in your work after reading your article about Angelina Jolie.
Of course you, in your maniacal devotion to this false prophet, think Angelina is a feminist icon because Feminism is Dead. The messages directed at women have been the same for centuries.
1. Find Prince Charming
2. Make babies
The 2009 version of that re-packaged message, now complete with trendy $2000 strollers and $1000 diaper bags, is this:
1. Find a man, any man will do, because nothing is worse than being a woman without a man.
2. Make lots and lots of babies. It's all the rage. Everybody's doing it and you don't want to be untrendy do you?
3. Get thin. Just stop eating. It's so much faster than going on a diet.
4. Get beautiful, boxtox surgery, whatever it takes.
5. Don't get old, and by old, we mean 40.
Angie's young, "hot", anorexic and turned her uterus into a clown car. So of course the idiots and fake feminists love this woman. She embodies the death of feminism like no other celebrity out there. Young girls know that people like Paris Hilton are not feminists so she is in many ways , less of a threat to the future of feminism than those parading around pretending to possess feminist ideals. Feminism is not about how many people want to sleep with you. In reality Angelina's 'effortless' everything would not be possible if it were not for her looks and the millions of dollars at her disposal.
After Tomb Raider, Ms Jolie was slipping into oblivion, trapped a wasteland of weird behavior and box office duds. People had lost interest in her and it wasn't until she became a mother and she started making babies with Brad Pitt, the fake version of Prince charming if there ever was one, that people began to really notice her latest re-invention of herself.
What you fail to understand is that Angelina Jolie needed a man, in this case Mr. Pitt, to make her into a global phenomenon. Before him it was Billy Bob Thornton and before him, her father. Without these men in her life, and without seeing herself as being desired by men, no on would even know who this idiotic, unstable, manipulative woman is. Why feminism means behaving as badly as men do equates equality, is something I will never understand.
You really need to get a grip on the true meaning of feminism, instead of hammering another nail in the coffin of a movement that has resorted to idolizing hot chicks people want to have sex with. That is not feminism, Ms. Wolf, that is a sad statement about the current state of feminism. That is all.

By reading the comments, it seems to me that most of you don't understand the term archetype. Naomi Wolf is not trying to celebrate Angelina Jolie as a person, but as a symbol or metaphor, an incarnation of some sort. And Naomi Wolf picks only certain traits or aspects, certain facets that can come to represent female freedom. Naomi Wolf is interested in social constructions and social strains on women. That's why the idea that one woman can get away with behavior traditionnally associated with men (steal somebody else's partner for example) is very important (even though it is morally as wrong). Interestingly enough, Wolf does not focus on motherhood, and that's very telling because she wrote a book about it (I haven't read it though). I think she doesn't because Jolie's relationship with motherhood is not at all representative of other women's. And here a class issue is at stake. You can't claim to be a 'normal' mother when your finances allow you an army of helps. So I think that one should understand that it's not really a piece about 'the life and character of Jolie', but how to some extent some parts of what she represents is appealing to some women (yes I would like to fly a plane despite the fact that it's said that women can't do it)

I totally want to have daddy issues, an eating disorder, and to cut myself. I'd love to be so desperate for attention that I make out with my own brother and so selfish that I'd knowingly fuck married men because I need validation so badly that I don't give a fuck who I hurt.

If Naomi were a "feminist", she would be celebrating real feminine beauty... which Angelina Jolie certainly is not. One look at her facial structure and it's pretty clear she's masculinized.
I also don't buy that she hasn't had any plastic surgery... Her lips look plain-out bloated, and she doesn't really have a cupid's bow. And that nose is also unnatural. I'm guessing her bust too, because she doesn't have a butt or any other indication of a more feminine body shape. She looks like a rectangle with tits.

It's so cool. I found this site..um..soulpancake...and it's topic this morning was exactly this: equality between the sexes. I'm over there - I almost forgot to go back and see how it all went down...
I, myself, talked about balance as opposed to equality. Equality has, actually, bit us all in the ass. Used to be that one person could support a whole family. Now, it's hardly that a couple can support each other, sometimes.
And it's cool for lines to cross - that happens all the time, but when everyone starts tryna cross the same lines all the time, well that erases balance. Uncool. Specifically, I said that equality is more about "I" while balance is more about "we".
There is a notable amount of balance that never really has seemed to be addressed, while equality has made great strides.
I don't want to be "less than" but I, certainly, don't want to have to be "more than" just to keep up, either. Sometimes, that's seems to what it has amounted to for us all.

I'm a Native American and I work for a patriarchal tribe that's run by men. It's much like a corporation - men are the managers, women are the workers that hold up the structure. If we women have a problem, we're automatically discounted because we're women, unless we've aligned ourself with a powerful, connected man. It's the good old boys' club, just a couple shades darker. What does Angie know about this life?
We women are making inroads and gaining power, but I swear the more power we gain, the worse the domestic violence becomes. What does Angie know about that? Does she live this life and fight along with us? Oh hell no. She does for herself. The impoverished orphans from tragic backgrounds, the charity work - all for her own benefit.
Our families here are tight and supportive. We help each other and we're emotionally close. I wouldn't trade that for a variety of small children and an army of nannies. Why would I want to be Angelina Jolie? What is she, in reality, doing with her life to make the world a better place? I hope this vapid article comes back to bite Wolfe in the ass in a big big way.
