I feel that society warps our perceptions about more than enough things, and the word "cougar" being used to describe thirty-something women connotates that being in your thirties is "old".

Society is twisting our perception of youth. This is no longer the Dark Ages when the average human life expectancy was probably somewhere between 30-40ish. In the 21st century, it's not unusual to live beyond 80, 90, or even 100 years old. It's not even like being 35 means half of your life is over anymore.

Yet people are so committed to the idea that if you're that age, pursuing a relationship means that it's a desperate effort to clench onto "the rest of your life" or that it's some sort of "pre-death" mission to find a partner.

In reality, life is not nearly over. People in general aren't on their deathbeds at that age. In fact, thirty or thirty five years is only PART of life because humans typically live way longer now than they had before all of this silly "cougar" nonsense became common.

This alarmist mindset about youth is disturbing and mentally unhealthy.

And why the fuck do men like George Clooney get awarded with praise when they fuck women 20 years their junior, when as much as a 2 year age difference between an older woman and younger man, there are so many negative connotations attached to the relationship about the woman in question?

"She's manipulative."
"She's unstable."
"She's a man-eater!"

Meanwhile, some older men who fuck around with 22 year olds with no promise of committment in sight and dispose of them later on face no such stigma. Why isn't that as questionable for people? Look at George Clooney, FFS. He gets stamped a fucking "humanitarian" despite his reputation for dumping younger women when he gets bored with them!

She is so beautiful and she does not look like she has had a shit load of work done. You can see fine lines and wrinkles which is reassuring. She is a class act who never gave into the stupid pressures of Hollyweird, she chose to raise her family on a farm and shun the limelight. I think those were/are the keys to her longevity in this industry and the keys to her looking 35 when she is over 50. She eats well, exercises and keeps the emphasis on the PROPER things in her life. I hope that one day she wins an Oscar, she deserves one.

THANK YOU, you described my feelings about it exactly. The phenomenon has annoyed me from its inception. Everyone was all a-dither about Ashton Kutcher being with Demi Moore, although the reverse of that situation happens all the time (Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, for example) and nobody bats an eye.

The show that they inevitably came out with, "The Cougar," featured a woman who barely seemed to be in her 30s. It reminded me of so-called "plus size" models who just look like average women.
