Michael Jackson Has Died

TMZ is reporting that that Michael Jackson died in Los Angeles from cardiac arrest. The Los Angeles Times, AP, CNN and CBS all confirm the report. The L.A. Times says doctors pronounced him dead after he arrived at the hospital in a deep coma. He was only 50-years-old.

I really don't know what to say. I am completely shocked. This doesn't feel like real life! TMZ has all the details. I'll write a little more later.

And I'm back (FYI: this part was written a couple of hours later). I just finished watching hours upon hours of Michael Jackson coverage and I still don't really know what to say. I will say that the dude made awesome music. That's a fact. You know you busted your shit to at least one Michael Jackson song in your bedroom, a club, a parking lot, a high school gymnasium, etc... The first time I ever drunkenly fell off the stage at a club, "Scream" was playing. Yes, I remember that. I also remember staying up late to watch the premiere of "Remember the Time" on MTV (back when MTV still played videos). I recorded it over Maid to Over on VHS, just so I could watch it a bunch of times.

Michael Jackson's music will live on forever. Hos will be dancing to it for the rest of eternity. Below is my favorite Michael Jackson song. It's also one of my favorite karaoke songs. I mean, you can't lose when singing about special rat friends:

And here's a few pictures of Michael through the years.

Hey Laurel

Thanks for offering the perspective of all black people from a couple that you spoke to. Usually when I want to know what an entire race thinks (because you know they think as a collective), I go just ask a few.

Migraine Sally's picture

I just have the sads.

I am so grateful that MJ was here while he was to make the music he did. He enriched our lives with his songs and gave alot to a world that quite frankly had abused this fragile soul while he was growing up.

And Michael K, you are truly a class act. No gossip on your site, just tributes. You are the most perfect blend of raunch and class that one could ever see-and probably the only one out there able to balance those two attributes, both brilliant.

FYI:

Black people are telling me that in their community, MJ's death has inspired nothing more than jokes. He's not considered important, influential, or to be some kind of Jesus.

Just to offer some perspective on this situation.

He was a definite genius. An icon who floated across the stage and sang messages of peace and change. If you want a good vintage Michael video, Youtube Michael Jackson Motown 1983 and watch the Billie Jean video with the moonwalk. Awesome.

My first reaction to the news was: What a loss. He was unbelievably talented, and underappreciated in his lifetime. Then I stopped with that train of thought, since he himself derailed his career.

The physician administering the Demeral injection should've had narcan, a narcotic reversal, on hand. Plus, Demeral is available in pill form. Why a needle?
He must have been pretty far gone, with the drug problem.

isn't it ironic? michael said "this is it" during a press conference lately... :(

I would hate to ever be on trial and be judged by a jury of my peers. So many people here and on other boards are quick to presume guilt. It's scary.

I think he was a tortured soul. From what people have said about his childhood, his father was a tyrant and child abuser and his mother stood by and did nothing. Some people who knew him said that his father broke his spirit as a child & he never recovered from it. That may explain why his behavior became so bizzarre in the 1980's and continued until his death. I certainly hope he left nothing to his parents because they certainly don't deserve it. Most of his family seemed like leeches that only expected him to take care of them financially for the rest of their lives & to profit off their family connection to him. I heard someone mention during one of the newscasts last night that they believe his death may be related to anorexia and prescription medications. Time will tell. I hope his children end up with a fairly normal person.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Very very well said. His father was and continues to be a leeching monster. That man never allowed MJ to be a child. He just kept pushing him to work and make money - a lot of which the boys never even saw.

Stoney's picture

Of course he's dead. Jesus, the man was getting a daily shot of Demerol and was addicted to Xanax and sleeping pills. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that he was in a health crisis. Just look at the man!

Now news reports are saying that it was a drug overdose. He was supposedly addicted to prescription meds:

~~~~~~~~~~~ Hell, I think that has been known or speculated for 20 some years. Drug/substance abuse will take a horrible toll on a person's heart.
For all his faults, (and there were many), he still was a extraordinary artist with limitless talent.
The tragedy is that we lost Michael Jackson many years ago but seemed serious about his comeback and regaining his musical credibility.
There is much to admire and so much he yet had to accomplish.
Thank you for the gifts you left behind and RIP.
You don't know the fucking first thing about me bitch so shut your fucking pie hole. Oh, and shove your pious attitude up your azz.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Martin Bashir is a hypocritical creep. He deliberately set out to show MJ in the weirdest light possible as evidenced by MJ's upset at the way the documentary was skewed to show him as being wacko. Now, Bashir is waxing rhapsodic ... ahh fuck it. Same old shit.
I had a horrible night's sleep last night. I actually woke up feeling very sad for MJ. The accusations surrounding him and his payola behavior to get rid of said accusations constitute highly questionable behavior but the fact remains that millions of people loved his music before (to coin the lexicon du jour) he jumped the shark.
I know we should be more concerned about "real" news, but I think it's sweet how the youtube comments are pouring in in many languages... I'm gonna get all "We Are The World" in about a minute...
And I love this song (Ben). Now I'm sniffling for Michael AND all my deceased little ratty friends!
RIP Michael. A huge loss. The press had spent so much time on his weirdness, we almost forgot about his great talent.
Wow...this has to be a posting record...1600 and something replies.
I am saddened over the death of MJ- I have not been much of a fun in recent years...but when I was younger, I rocked out to his songs frequently. Even someone that has never been a fan, can't deny his true talent. I venture to say that there's no entertainer in the world that can quit compare to Michael Jackson. An icon yes, but even so much more than that. His death doesn't seem real- like, how can he really be dead? It's so hard to grasp.
May he rest in peace...and i pray for his children and family in such a difficult time.
TomIsATool's picture
Shocked. He may have been a weird, misunderstood, odd....but damn it's Michael Jackson!! Thriller WAS the 80's. I wonder what will happen to those kids. They have to be taking it hard.
Very nice tribute to Michael Jackson. Well done, MK.
MtlMama's picture
It's weird. It's like it's not real. I wasn't a fan, so it's even more surprising to me that I'm seeing this as such a shock.
It's as if I'm waiting for things to 'switch back' and CNN is only showing things about Farrah Fawcett.
So weird.
To think that MJ would died suddenly stunning.
More stunning is to think of the lowrents that are trying to wax poetic in making comparisions to Ed Gein and wishing death on MJ. Disagree with
his antics however, it's the flippin Salem Witch trials again.
He's gone, let him go in peace. The alleged victim's family obviously let it go when they cashed the $20 million dollar check. Total extortion.
Just leave it, and let the music do the talking.
Michael was fucked up by crazy paparazzi, stupid accusations, sues and everything he wanted just the world to live him alone and he moved to quite part of the world
I don`t how but i feel it, and my intution never wrong
Are you sure on 100%, you was there?! I don`t think so. I either can`t say that its absolute truth it just my assumption..And you living in America must know that here is possible everything, to find the someone similir is surely one easy thing. 2 things coincide:
Michael was fed up with the people getting him..
And the same facts appear in the history, the same example was with the Hitler, all think the official version that he poisoned himself, but everyone has a bit of doubt...
BUT The most interesting is that we never know the truth
i am amazed at the hatred towards him. i respected and loved michael jackson as a singer not as a human being and i am mourning the musical genius.
Since I have been on this Earth, there is no one who gave themselves so completely to the world, with me as a recipient, more than Michael Jackson.
