Open Post: Hosted By The Story We've Been Waiting For
Whenever I watch the local news, I find myself screaming "Why the dick is this on the news?!" at least once. You probably scream the same thing after reading this site. Well, except you don't say "the news" you say the inter---- Anyway, we're getting off track!
So this was on the local news in Greenville, South Carolina and the blonde anchor lady introduced it by saying "This is the story we've been waiting for all day!!!!!" It's not a story, bitch! It's a poor squirrel hopping around with a Yoplait cup stuck on its head! And they laugh! They are laughing at animals in distress and littering! These two anchors won't be laughing when they find themselves spending the rest of eternity with a Yoplait cup on their heads.
On a different note, I feel like that squirrel most days, so he is not alone.

Did you get an employee handbook/manual? Does that book state that you are an at-will employee and that your employment can be terminated without notice and without cause? If the employer can terminate you without cause and without notice, then you do not have to give notice.

I got the manual 8 years ago. Most everything is online now. I couldn't find a "resignation" policy, so I called HR to ask them for the policy number. They said there is none! I WANTED to do the right thing, but I talked to HR and they make it pretty much impossible to do the right thing. If a person quits between the 1st and the 15th of the month, medical benefits end on the 15. If a person quits between the 16th and end of the month, the benefits end at the end of the month. The HUGE problem is that I was told if you give two weeks notice there's a chance your supervisor may not agree with it and cut ya loose right then, so it gives me no choice but to do a same day thing, meanwhile being strong-armed by the same biatch that "its a professional courtesy to give two weeks and you don't want to burn your bridges." How do you burn a bridge if they're legally obligated not to say sqwat (sp)?
And, effin bridges got burned when I had no choice but to get the feds involved in the shtstorm they threw at me last year, so what do i care now?

Does anyone know what the legal requirement is for getting a reference from a former employer? That is, what are the legally allowed to say and not say? Does it vary by state, or is there a federal mandate on that topic?
I just got some bullsht about giving 2 weeks notice as a "professional courtesy because you don't want to burn your bridges" - I'm thinking WTF does it matter if they're legally bound to only verify dates of employment and rehire status.
