Trent Reznor says he was forced to cancel his life on MySpace and Twitter, because a bunch of hating haters dropped hate bombs about his fiancee Bai Ling Mariqueen Maandig. Instead of doing like I do and writing them a simple response like "SHUT YOUR CUNT WHORE MOUTHS," Trent has put his Twittering days behind him.

Twitter seemed like an interesting way to quickly reach a large number of people, and people that seem to exist outside of the nin.com world of fans. Then... around the time news broke of my engagement, a faction of troublemakers showed up whose sole intent was to disrupt, harass, insult and incite…In a reasonably moderated community, these people can be made to vanish - on Twitter, it's a free-for-all - hence they flock there. It depresses me to think my art and life's work can attract this kind of scum…if that was your intention you trolling, cowardly pigs - you've succeeded."

Gawd, I remember when I thought he was the king of badasses and I wanted to fuck him like an animal. Remember when he was THE music genius? Everyone had to respect his talent. Now, what the hell happened?
"Do You Need a Moment?" = Best tag ever. (I decided to register just to say so. (^_^)) Especially since he looks like he's asking for one. He looks all verklempt, like he's about to give you a topic to discuss and tell you to talk amongst yourselves. (What is that look, exactly, Industrial Jesus? Goth Monk? What, exactly?)
There once was a time when this man was my hero, but that was literally a whole lifetime ago. The Downward Spiral, without exaggeration, saved my life when I was going through a particularly rough, bleak, dark time, by making me feel that much less alone in my pain and my anger and my fear. Even though it was for different reasons, there was someone out there who felt like I did, and that was a great source of solace. It still irons out the rough spots, even now, and it's still my favourite record.
Plus, I really really wanted to fuck him, of course. (Then again, I was 15: I wanted to fuck everything that moved.)
But, these days.... I don't know if it's a midlife crisis, or if he's gone off his meds for a while, or a publicity stunt, or what, but he's become a whiny little cunt who embarrasses himself everytime he slaps his MacBook Air with his dick (or whatever it was that MK said a while back about Kanye and his blog — I can't remember the exact line), and I'm ashamed to say that I once respected him. When this whole DairyQueen thing started up, I pretty much decided it was a sham. He was just acting so weirdly — asking for recommendations for romantic comedies and shit — and the proximity of the timing of the announcement of their "engagement" to the opening dates of the NIN/JA tour (later that same week, I think) was just too close to be just a coincidence. The whole thing is just so out-of-character for the persona that he's built up over the last 20 or so years that it just kind of screams "publicity stunt!" It was so neat to find him hanging out on Twitter at some point last year, and I really enjoyed his little bits and pieces. But then, it started to get so creepy in May, and now, he's all butthurt by some Internet nobodies and leaving?!? What a maroon. The hot, intellectual, pissed-off piece who wrote "Ruiner" and "Happiness in Slavery" would have told them to suck his sweaty nutsack. What a disappointment.
Oh, well. At least it proved to me that my original instinct was right, that Twitter is stupid as fuck, and the fully-frontal creepiness of the whole thing got me to kill my account there. (What really helped, too, was finding out that there are websites that gank your posts and repost them without your knowledge or permission. That creeped me out to no end — although I was pretty amused to find that my rating on Cursebird was, "You swear like an enthusiastic porn star.")
Sorry for the novel. It's late, I'm tired-but-not-sleepy, and I get babbly when that happens. If you actually made it all the way through ... wow, you have an even more boring life than I do, I guess. ... I guess I'll go back to disturbing the fuck out of myself with that Kelly Clarkson photo on the homepage now and hope I don't end up with any weird nightmares.

You say tomato, I say I don't give a shit what you think. He's admitted to ONE SONG off of PHM being directly influenced by SP's "Dig It," how is that a ripoff? And I've never heard shit about YZ being a ripoff, but whatever. You can have your opinion, and I'll keep mine thanks. I've been a fan of both artists for a long time, and can see and appreciate the talent put forth by both.
