Shawne Merriman Is Off The Hook
So...I guess Shawne Merriman isn't officially Chris Brown 2.0 after all. After investigating the case, the San Diego District Attorney announced that no charges will be filed against Shawne over Tila Tequila's accusations that he choked her out and bruised her up last week. The D.A. released this statement:
"After a thorough review of the investigation into the Sept. 6, 2009 incident at the Poway home of Shawne Merriman, our office has determined there is insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that any crime was committed. The case is now closed."
Well, there you go! The trial of the century that never was. And it seems that Tila is already moving on to sexier pastures. A few hours ago, she posted this on her Twitter: "CONTEST: whomever calls me with the BEST fun date idea, Im gonna give you a call back & we can go on the date! BE CREATIVE! (860) 256-8452! Some people on here, however, give me the feeling that they belong into a psychiatric ward or are even posting their comments out of one.
hahahaha. Angel is one of the nicest, most measured people on this site. Even when she feels the need to argue or correct someone, she's still civil and fair about it. (She does Canada proud.)
I wish the blog weren't so angry at times--see today's Kanye or Serena Williams threads--but we have to take the bad with the good. I just ignore most of the angry posts, say what I want, then move on to another thread. I think people will protest at obvious racism or misogyny, but sometimes it's too subtle to spot right away. We can't correct the world or mold it to our liking, eh?

It's not a problem. There are enough funny pictures to choose from, so why use one that makes someone else feel uncomfortable? I'm not like that.
I'm also against censorship and all for freedom of speech. I also understand this site as a place to vent, but still that doesn't mean that you have to write out everything you have on your mind, especially if it's discriminatory.
You can be snarky and swear at people without using gender-specific swearwords.
That's why I posted my comment in the first place.
I bet that many people on here have thoughts about certain celebrities which others here would consider racist, but the thing is that neither here allows themselves to post those thoughts because they know exactly that people wouldn't find them funny and wouldn't approve. They censor themselves so to speak because they know that it wouldn't be p. c. to post such comments. Misogyny, however, is widely accepted, among men and women all over the world. Women don't have such a strong lobby as, f. e., black or jewish people and that's why nobody really does anything against the misogyny that takes place on numerous internet sites.
So, why is it that you can take yourself back when it comes to racism but not when it comes to misogyny?

I like wild, mostly uncensored blogs like this one; if someone doesn't like something, then comment or ignore. I'm always impressed that it gets self-policed fairly well. If someone says something too hateful or racist, say, others jump on it. The blogs I read that are monitored are really tame and boring. All the comments are on-topic and measured, yet totally uninspired.
I think people like to blast away here because they can do so freely and anonymously. For every poster who drops F-bombs and the C-word all day, I bet there are 10 who never talk that way in real life. That's part of the pleasure of anonymous snarking: saying things out loud that most of us wouldn't dare say IRL.

Whoa nelly. Just for the record I do NOT talk this way around my daughter. But I was raised in a home and a neighbourhood where this language was flung around haphazardly and now it's there in me. One of the reasons I come here is that I can vent that outta me when it starts to build up inside me IRL. Honestly - that was a real problem for a while, I had this tension that I could NOT make go away. And it was all about this kind of vitriolic spewing that I had become so accustomed to, as a child.
But that's me. I don't know what's going on with other people but it doesn't bother me here - if my daughter was sitting in a room with us while we were chatting I would be very disturbed and, likely, never see that person ever again. That being said, it's not like it doesn't slip - but it's a boundary that we understand should not be crossed - when I slip, I apologize and really do try to not slip again.
But anyway - why am *I* rambling on...? O yeah - I got scared you thought I'd talk to my daughter like that! Ack! Really,tho , I so rarely use body parts as insults. I like to say hooker and whore a lot but that's taken on a whole new androgynous meaning for me.
I do think it could be a point well taken, all in all - words repeated over and over can set a negative energy in motion and when all those words are feminine...and then, I think: While there are boys here, this IS kind of a girl's room. So maybe it's just a natural angle....

Oh, that's why you don't like my avie. I assumed that you were female. I can totally understand now that you feel uncomfortable with it. I'm sorry, I will delete it.
I'm not here to change people and I know that I won't be able to. I like the site, otherwise I wouldn't come here. MK can be very funny. Especially when he talks about his own experiences (whether true or not), but it sometimes bothers me how he reports on certain women. The good thing is that he also often uses those words when commenting about men. So there's some kind of justice and equality here.
What gets me more are those incredibly vitriolic comments of certain people here. It really scares me to see how unconcerned some of those women are using those words. They throw them around as if they would really mean nothing to them anymore. I wonder if they also talk like that in 'real life' given that some of them claim to be mothers. I also wonder what they teach their daughters at home. I know that my mother doesn't use those words and despises them as much as I do.
It's just what I'm asking myself when I read those comments.
Can a mother teach her daughter to respect herself and other women and can they even teach their sons to respect women when those mothers themselves have no respect for themselves and other women and I'm not only talking about women like Tila Tequila. There are entries about female celebrities on this site (f. e. Sarah Jessica Parker) who get called a cunt for no other reason than being not as attractive, young or stylish anymore.

Women might be supportive of other women but not in every way and they become very competitive with each other if a man is involved (no matter if straight or gay) which they want to impress (see MK).
The word misogyny simply means hatred towards women. It doesn't say if men or women themselves feel that hatred.
I also think that women who constantly use words like 'cunt', 'twat', 'whore', 'slut' etc. (isn't it funny how many swear words there are to especially degrade women?) and can't think of other words to display their discontent which do not offend the other woman for being a woman feel a lot of self-hatred for themselves.
The thing is that I can totally understand it since we (women) are constantly 'represented' by women like Tila Tequila or Megan Fox or whomever so that we always get the feeling that men are constantly validated in their thinking that we are totally brainless pieces of shit who don't deserve respect and should be treated like whores.
Of course, not all men think like that but when you as a woman are trying to make a point and ask men to respect women they only need to point at people like Tila or some Rock of Love contestant and ask us in return: Do they respect themselves? Just look at how they behave. Why should I respect them and treat them like ladies if they don't even think of such themselves? Well, they have a point and it is understandable that other women want to distance themselves from those women and their behavior by calling them those names but that kind of behavior doesn't help us either because men will read our comments and see/hear us calling other women bitches, hos and cunts and they will again think Why the hell should I stop calling them that or treat them as such if women themselves call each other those names all the time and think of each other that way?
