Patrick Swayze Has Passed Away

Well, this is a hard one. The summer of death has taken yet another piece of my 80s childhood, because Patrick Swayze has jazz walked all the way to heaven where there are no corners. :(

Patrick died of pancreatic cancer today. He was only 57. Patrick's rep issued this statement:

"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months."

I need to thank Patrick for The Outsiders, Road House (YES!), Ghost, Point Break, To Wong Foo and of course, the masterpiece of all masterpieces Dirty Dancing. Seriously, I wore my VHS copy of that OUT.

Rest in peace, Patrick. Nobody did it like you.

And now I must go choreograph a dance tribute to "She's Like The Wind."

"Point Break" was EPIC when I was younger. always had a soft spot for Swayze. "Ghost" was HOT. not Demi...but Patrick and Whoopi. R.I.P.

My grandma passed away the same day, was just not a good day.

It terrible to be attacked by your illness at no assured time. Its painful to leave here when youre not ready yet.Patrick Swayze, victim of pancreatic cancer who had just passed away after giving word that his cancer had spread to his liver and that what his doctors told him to countdown to the end. The actor preferred to discontinue taking painkilling drugs while he was making up for his movie "The Beast". Patrick Swayze has been a greatful icon of the entertainment industry, he was that hunky actor who danced his way into moviegoers' hearts with "Dirty Dancing" and then broke them with "Ghost" died after a battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 57. Death of Patrick really made some sad and bother about it.Family of him, even theyre with enough money spent for the medical treatments of Swayze might ask for emergency help financially. We all come up short every now and again, and that's when we could use a no fax cash advance. There are a myriad of reasons why you could need a no fax cash advance. Maybe you were the victim of a horrific construction accident, and need it to cover a hospital bill like what Patrick's family experienced. Or it could be that the independent contractor that you hired to build a deck forgot to set it on joists, and the whole thing has collapsed. Regardless of reason for needing a no fax cash advance, there are plenty of payday lenders to help you with your need.We hope that there would be Patrick Swayze again in entertainment industry .

I was just in a spinning class in Austin, TX, and halfway through, the instructor said, "Let's all take a moment to remember Patrick Swayze, a real fighter and class act."

There were about 40 people in the class, and 3/4 of them were crying, including myself.

He's really priceless.

When I think of Patrick, I think of the 80s, which- as time goes by- seem better and better.

I love that "Hungry Eyes" song too!
You are in a better place where there is no pain. :] Rest in Peace Mr. Swayze.

This really does make me sad. Though not the best of films I still love Roadhouse, Next of Kin and Too Wong Foo. Its a shame his career peaked with Dirty Dancing and then just kind of went flat after Ghost.

As a young girl growing up in Jamaica, dirty dancing was my favorite film. it taught me everything about about sexiness and sex (don't ask), Patrick you will be missed and thank you, my prayers go out to your wife and best friend of 34 years, I hope that you have taken the love with you. I still own a vhs copy of dirty dancing and will wear it out too mk

He fought this thing til the end... Oh I'm so sad.
:(
Loved him in Dirty Dancing.

EvilShoe's picture

I am very sad to hear this.

I met him at the Waterworld premier at the after party, I cannot articulate how nice and genuine he was. I was very nervous meeting him. He was speaking with someone and I waited for about 20 minutes for him to finish talking to his friend. When he finished he thanked me for not interrupting him and he wanted to take a photo with me. I thought he meant with my camera but he meant with mine and his. He pulled out a camera and had someone take a photo of us then one with mine. I was holding the Waterworld program and he thought it was not placed right so he insisted on taking another photo to be sure I had a really good one. He took my hand afterwards and kissed it, I am dead serious when I say he was beyond charming.

I'm pulling that photo out and finally framing it...

Patrick and Tammen are racing the wind now.
I enjoyed his work and he seemed like a decent
human being. Condolences to his wife Lisa and his family.

it's because there is not much funding for the sciences. In federal agencies, for example, scientists are being let go or get funding cuts left and right, just so they can hire more bureaucrats and MBAs. Obama just recently removed GWB's horrible policy of not using federal dollars to do stem cell research. Most science and research labs are on soft grants and researchers get paid so little, and everytime they are the verge of a breakthrough, they run out of funding and if you have ever done a NIH or so grant proposal, well good luck, it takes forever.

I said it before and i stand by this: if we paid researchers as much as we pay athletes and celebrities, we would have had a cure for cancer decades ago. It is very simple, we are prioritizing as a society what to spend our money on and glamor sells better than cures. Some celebrity whore gets paid 20 million for a movie and what does a researcher working on cancer research get paid? 35k max? And often he has to pitch in for lab equipment...it's just never gonna work out.

Thanks Jaded. I was thinking it was sooner ago than that, based on what happened with my dad, which was a sucker-punch.

It is a death sentence, it's horrible.

Hey Chicago -

Thanks for reminding us of one of the funniest SNL skits EVA: Patrick and Chris Farley as Chippendales dancers....holy shit!!!! Patrick was just as funny as Chris - maybe funnier as the "FAIL" dancer trying to be more like Chris!!!! Laughed my ass off! Showed that PS had range, and did not take himself seriously. I'll bet he was a decent guy off-screen. What a loss......

Impertinent Vixen, Patrick was diagnosed in the early part of 2008, twenty months ago.

I was so hoping that he might beat it but pancreatic cancer seems to be a death sentence.

He lived much longer than most but he must have suffered greatly.

A great loss of a talented, young individual.

:-((

my mom also died from this disease- i am involved in a charity www.pancan.org
we raise money for education and research.
it really is a horrendous diease, and no advnaces have been made in THIRTY YEARS. that is sad.
we are on par as far as research, with where breast cancer research was in the 1930's.
RIP patrick...

ImpertinentVixen's picture

57 is way too young to die. My dad died of this same horrible disease at 56 some 33 years ago, and apparently advancements in treatment for pancreatic cancer are still not able to keep up with the ferocity of the cancer. Wasn't he diagnosed this past winter? So, 6 months or so. My dad died the same week he got his diagnosis.

I think pancreatic cancer awareness and fundraising should be on a par with breast cancer, which is ubiquitous.

I am so sad to wake up to this. DD and Ghost are on my favorite movies list of all time. He fought hard. I was hoping he would have been in that small percentage of survivors and beat the odds.

His last interview with Barbara Walters had me in many tears. Sending my blog comment condolences to his widow Lisa, and his family.

May he rest in peace.
