Hot Slut Of The Day!
Guiding Light - Back when dinosaurs walked the earth and Larry King was just a tween, a soap opera called The Guiding Light was born! And now after 230 million years (aka 72 years) on air, Guiding Light's circuit breakers will be permanently shut off today. The final episode will air this afternoon.
I never watched Guiding Light, but I always applaud trash, so this is a sad day. I will pay homage to Guiding Light today by either a) slapping my arch rival (aka the old bitch down the street who always calls my boy dog a girl) b) stealing my best friend's man or c) marry into the Santos mob dynasty.
Above is Guiding Light's "disco intro" from the 80s. It only lasted a year. You can watch most of the intros on YouTube as well as a zillion farewell tributes.
R.I.P. Guiding Light!

How did I miss this on Friday?! Thanks MK for making the show HS. I watched it for 26 years. Rest in Peace Guiding Light
Those were the years when I watched - The Disco Years!! You know the world is in flux when a 72 yr old soap opera bites the dust. Will an hour of "Peoples Court" be an improvement??
My Mom always watched Guiding Light and As The world Turns so I grew up watching them. We used to talk on the phone every night and dicuss what happebed that day after I grew up and moved out. It's sad that it's gone after all this time. For some reason it's making me miss my Mom even more than usual. RIP Guiding Light. I hope ATWT doesb't wind up being next.
Hopefully this will be the last victim of the summer of death. And may Reva finally stand on her own. It was nice to relive Nola and the haunted house era one last time.

"I'm a black robot, motherfucker."
hmm a disco intro in the 80s?
that doesn't make sense...must have been the intro for the 70's.
RIP Guiding Light. I watched this and The Young and the Restless back in the day when my kids were babies.
Lot of Lujack fans. Sorry, I always hated Beth and Lujack. Team Melinda Sue! Mindy was great. I loved Hilary, Vanessa and Nola too.
Besides Hayden, other stars who got a big break on GL include Kevin Bacon, John Wesley Shipp (Dawson's dad), Brittany Snow, Melina Kanakaredes, Ian Ziering and Laura Bell Bundy.

Yeah I watched this with my mom back in the day...but right around the cloning started to lose interest. I heard in recent years there were superheroes? Hm! It's funny that with all the talk of Hayden Pantytroll there's no mention her getting her start on GL. She was one messed up little kid on the show.
We never had cable growing up, so my mom watched soaps everyday. So every summer, I remember As The World Turns and Guiding Light being on. I remember this into. I never got into soaps at all, but I remember Lujack, because I thought he was pretty good looking!

I don't know which I like better, the karate chop or the random jack o'lantern.
*****
that was an AMAZING intro...and i'm going with the jack o' lantern...
Who knew the Guiding Light was a disco ball? That was awesome.
“I’d come down and give you a hug, but I lost my pants!”
God, this was my Mom's show. She'd tape it and we'd watch it at night. I also remember the cross dressing rapist (Marion/Brent - that was some nightmare worthy shit) stalking Lucy Cooper, Reva becoming Amish, the deaf girl, Annie Dutton being evil, etc.
I also found it hilarious that Alan Michael Spaulding as born the same year as me, 1981, and in 1996, when I was in 10th grade, he was getting married for the 3rd time. XD WTF, I could barely find time for a boyfriend between Debate Team and Science Club! He was an advanced 15 year old!!
Goodbye GL; Beth,Lujack,Alan,Phillip,Josh,Reva,
Billy,Buzz,Alexandra and Rick. My Grandmother Cora and I watched together and I kept watching ..
I loved Guiding Light...watched it faithfully in the 80's.
RIP Guiding Light...you were high class trash television viewing.
Recently,I found a very interesting place
___sugarscupid.com_______.
It is the best dating club for seeking the rich singles, beauties and even hot celebs..
what's the most important is that you dont have to be a millionaire.but you can meet one.
I think everyone need to meet some miracle after all the terrible stuff in the news and the economy .You should check it out!!!
OMG its over? I watched Guiding Light for 15 years starting in the early 80s, everyone in the house was gluded to the TV at 3. My favourites Beth and Lujack, Alain Spalding played by Christopher Bernau and his bitch sister Alexandra played by the Queen Bitch of all soaps Beverly McKenzie. RIP Guiding Light
Guiding Light was high-grade trash for it's genre.
I started watching in '91 & my fondest memories are of the cloning of Reva, Marrianne, the cross-dressing serial killer, Reva losing her memory & being taken in by Amish folk & then ending up in San Cristobel, Beth getting "killed" in Mexico & then resurfacing as LoreLei & then battling with her alter-ego, anything to do with Annie Dutton, & of course the Danny & Michell Santos drama.
Unfortunately it'd become unwatchable since '07 & I'd given up on it.
I'm sad to see it go, but it's far better this way then to let it get any worse.
:(
Holy shit, was that ever AWESOME!!!!!
All I took away from that was the Crisco ad at the end. I thought it was all a bad dream. Growing up, we used that shit to cook every single thing we made in the kitchen. Nasty.
I don't know which I like better, the karate chop or the random jack o'lantern.
How wonderful to see Henry Chamberlain's face on Dlisted. My mom has watched since the 1950's. I grew up watching Bert, Mike and Ed Bauer. The show rocked in the early 80's. Sad to see it go. Everything from my youth is disappearing. Both of my childhood homes are gone, my grandparent's home is gone, my old high school is gone, hundreds of the celebs of the area are gone...
Gloom, Despair, Agony on me, Deep Dark Depression, Excessive Misery...(curling up in fetal position in the corner of my cubicle)

Same. And I can't decide whether I'm offended or amused that we've spent a full seventy-two years selling soap in this way.
♥ Threadkilla!
LEAVE LADY GAGA ALOOOOOOOONE!
wow...i always watched day's.
I never watched it either (my mom was into the soaps on ABC)but 72 years is an amazing run & it's kinda sad it's come to a close.

Don't let anyone tell you you're not humpable,
Because you're bumpable. Well I hope this doesn't make you feel uncomfortable
Never watched it.
But anything that's lasted 72 years deserves some respect.
Dlisted should have a daytime soap....

Awwwww, RIP, GL! I remember watching Lujack's memorial on the phone (long distance, land line) w/ my bff from college during Christmas break. We cried together for an hour. My grandmother was visiting, & she laughed about it for years.

RIP Guiding Light- I grew up watching it because my mom always had it on at home when I was a kid in the afternoons (before soaps moved to the AM because they had to make room for all the stupid Judge ____ and talk shows). So sad that the Summer of Death claimed yet another. Riva and Josh forever!
