Am soooo glad i had no TV or MTV during the mid/late 80s. Saw just 1 Madonna video (she was sort of rolling on her back on the hood of a car like she was doggie-copulating w/it, & camera kept trying to crawl up her shirt)... Worse; for maybe 4 years saw the uniform awfulness up-close while working in a "rock/dance" club... well, you wore prophylactic earplugs but was still scary.

But the Spandex=Hotness thing? Reminds me of the first Terminator movie & the Girls-Fri-Nite blow-dry/primp scene. It's Historical now; s'okay--won't burn your eyeballs!

Being a proud Australian Collette did manage 2 top ten hits.
The 2nd being "All i wanna do is dance" of course it was shot in a shopping mall and on the streets of Sydney. The most amazing one was "Thats what i like about you" that featured the most mindblowing vocal sampling break to rival even the most hardcore Stock Aitken & Waterman track

I can't access the song to refresh my memory. I remember it wasn't great. I love Anita's original version. Like MK said the spandex and fringe was more important during that time than the voice.
