Move Over, Balloon Boy
If you have a phobia of trains, babies, strollers or surveillance footage, don't watch this clip. While Balloon Boy was off becoming world famous, a baby in Australia got ran over by a train and lived to tell the tale! In fact, the baby only suffered a small bump on the head. Cut to Paris Hilton saying, "Pfft. I get a train ran on me weekly."
How long do you think it's going to take before the media makes Train Baby the star of the moment? You know he's going to star in a remake of While You Were Sleeping.
(Thanks Joe)

Poor mother, luckily the story didn't become tragic

A couple of years ago in the same area a mom was jogging with one of those prams, stopped to answer her cell (BTW fuck knuckles - this mom was NOT on her cell)and the baby's stoller rolled down the hill into a lake surrounded by thick reeds. When she looked back she thought someone had stolen the baby and it was a couple of hours later they figured what happended and found the little boy drowned still strapped into his 3 wheel pram. They're too precious to take your eyes off em for a second.

Oh, don't mind some of these folks. They LOVE to point their hypocritical fingers. "Oh, the mother should have done this, should have done that..." They're like M.K. except they're judgmental, hypocritical, and not funny (and some are kind of stupid).

Right, because no child ever died or was harmed by its caregiver's incompetence/stupidity.

I can't beleive that blonde woman starts to run toward the pram, then when the train comes, she jumps back . . .the F@#$ing walks away...what a b!tch!

She was gonna barf. I guess she didn't wanna add barf on the shoe to the list of that lady's problems for the day.

Why are people so self righteous. It's easy in hindsight to say she should do this and she should have none that... people are human and i'm sure she feels absolutely horrible for letting this happen.
Don't you ever make a mistake? Oh that's right, I forgot your obviously perfect.
Her screams must have been heart wrenching.
Let me give you guys some background to this story.
There's been an increase in incidents with prams/strollers at train stations in the last few months, however this was probably one of the most serious cases. Victoria Police decided to release the footage to shock and scare parents into realising what can happen with a momentary lapse in concentration. If you've ever seen a road safety commercial in Australia you'll realise we're used to shockingly horrific ads/footage.
As for the comments she's on her mobile phone ("cellphone" for you Yanks), she's not. She is chatting to the other passengers waiting, turns her pram and goes to adjust her jeans and pull them up from her hip while looking at the train. In that split second the pram moves away from her, she slips as she tries to grab it and the rest happens quite quickly.
She's clearly shown to be screaming (there's no audio on our train station cameras btw), and the oter female walks away because she thinks she's about to vomit having seen a baby just die. She ends up turning around and running to the front of the carriage to check eventually (with the mother and another male passenger).
Note that the train driver was commended for applying the emergency brakes immediately - the baby and pram were push around 40m or so.
Crazy stuff, very fortunate child and mother.
Wow. What a story. How horrible that the mother had to go through that brief period when she thought her child had been hit by a train and killed in front of her. I can't imagine her emotional state. Very happy to hear mother and child are alright.
Holy shit! And the mother was about to jump right on the tracks, in front of the train, to rescue her baby. Damn, it's a miracle that kid survived!

There have been a number of stories of people surviving being run over by a train. There's a gap between the bottom of the train and the tracks (but not much).
I felt that woman's horror and could hear her scream in my head as the train ran over her baby. She was in hell until they found out the baby was okay.
OMG OMG OMG !!!!!!
at first i was like fucking scary and shaking and shit and then i suddenly had the rainbows coming out of me!!!!!!!!
thank lord that baby is ok i mean what a fucked up accident , phewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww !!!!!!!!!
i can not even imagine how relieved that woman must feel , is a fucken miracle !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scary shit. Having a baby is some scary shit. People can judge, but really, accidents can happen in just a second with little kids. I have a little one and I never take safety for granted. So glad they're okay. Shudder.
Trying to stop the train with her hand breaks my heart. That one chick who tried to help looks like she's going to vomit after the train came. Glad that baby was ok! What a miracle.
Completely in agreement with M.E.; always hold on to strollers, prams, whatever the child is in and SHIELD the baby from the track. GRRRRR.
I agree with M.E. Since it was also a windy day she should have kept her hand on the stroller. Why did she need both hands free to yak on the phone?

I saw this this morning and screamed when the stroller when onto the tracks.
Hold your children.
Be aware of where they are at all times.
Use common sense when travelling.
Ballon boy and train baby are enough to turn me off to leaving the house with the kids.
Cannot watch the vid: the balloon flying at 5000 ft was enough for me.
I love those bitches who run over to help and when the baby gets squished they walk off like, "Oh well!" That mom was a moron. Those prams have brakes on them and what was she doing? Talking on her phone I bet and yanking on her drawers.
balloon boy got upstaged by a baby.
And I cannot bear to watch that video, so I will take MK's word for it.

I wonder if the stroller manufacturer is going to use this footage for their future marketing campaign. Hmmm...
On a serious note, that made my heart fall to my stomach. If I didn't know the outcome I would have been a crying mess.
damn, i almost threw up!
i was so paranoid when my son was that little. so relieved the kid is okay.

This is why you:
a) Put the parking break on the stroller.
b) Align the stroller parallel to the wall and not pointing directly at the train tracks.
c) Not be on a fucking cellphone when you have not done a) and b)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
People's stupidity never ceases to amaze me.

This morning NBC had the full cut of this footage and they didn't pixel out Mommy. It's clear she was on her CELLPHONE. That's why the carriage got away from her. She wasn't paying attention.
-----------------------
Even so, she only let go of the stroller for a few seconds, and less than a second after it started rolling, she was after it. She WAS paying attention. She just didn't expect the wind to take the stroller. As a mother, I think I died a little watching the video, imagining what THAT mother must have been feeling. I'm so glad her baby is okay.

I think that God was watching over baby and momma. If the mom had even a couple more seconds before the train came, she might have jumped in to save the baby and *BAM*. But it was kind of too fast for her to do anything rash. Then there's the fact that God apparently created a protective force field around the bebeh...the carrier was broken and the baby supplies scattered all over the tracks but bebeh has a scratch and is otherwise fine?! Bebeh better dedicate its life to helping the homeless or something. He kind of owes the universe for this one.
