Bronson Pinchot On Tommy Girl (And Others)
Bronson Pinchot (aka Balki from Perfect Strangers) must have been sipping on the finest wine cooler and toking on some serious shit during his interview with The Onion's A.V. Club, because he was feeling mighty comfortable. There was no leash on Bronson's mouth.
You just want to curl up besides him with your bong, and let him whisper about how Bette Midler was such a cunt to her director or how Mischa Barton explodes into a typhoon of tears when you make fun of her ass. Good shit. But the best part of the interview is the picture Bronson paints of the maniacal gay troll known as Tommy Girl.
Bronson worked with Tommy on Risky Business, and said that not only was he as boring as a broken vibrator, but he also made awkward and random homophobic comments all the time. Hmm...I wonder why.
Bronson said, "We thought Tom [Cruise] was the biggest bore on the face of the Earth. He was tense and made constant, constant unrelated homophobic comments, like, 'You want some ice cream, in case there are no gay people there?' I mean, his lingo was larded with the most… There was no basis for it. It was like, 'It’s a nice day, I’m glad there are no gay people standing here.' Very, very strange. Years and years later when people started to torment him with that, I used to think 'God, that’s really fitting, because he tormented a lot of people as a 20-year-old.' He made such a big deal about it. Same thing with Eddie Murphy—I remember somebody calling and saying, 'You’ll never guess who was just caught with a transvestite!' [Laughs.] And I remember thinking that seemed fitting, because there are certain people in showbiz who make it an agenda, every third sentence has to have something knocking that life choice, and you think, 'What are you doing?'"
GOLD COVERED GOLD! "You want some ice cream, in case there are no gay people there?" is the funniest thing that has ever come out of Tommy Girl's mouth! Homealien could headline the Queens of Comedy if he continued to say shit like that. But I'm sure Tommy Girl no longer makes such comments since the aliens cured him of his asshole's thirst for hard dick. Right.
And who does Bronson think is the most unpleasant human being on earth? No, it's not Tommy. Bronson said that working with Denzel Washington on Courage Under Fire was complete torture, "He’s one of the most unpleasant human beings I’ve ever met in my life, but he’s this mega-superstar. He was really abusive to me and everybody on that movie, and his official explanation was that his character didn’t like me, but it was a dreadful experience. I spent my salary on time with my shrink just for helping me get through it, and what that led to was the very next big movie that I did. I should have said to the producers, 'You get that guy in line, or I’m out of here.' Life’s too short."

I fail to understand why Denzel Washington's acting is continually lauded with such praise. If you examine his roles, whether he's the good guy or bad guy, cop or criminal, honest or corrupt, he's always, basically, the same character. He never plays a role that portrays a person who is vulnerable in any way. They are all single-minded in their actions & without any detectable uncertainty. I think he's completely overrated.

Thanks. I was just going to ask which VH1 show I had seen him in. I remember him being a dick on there too but liked his interview. It's about time people came out and told the truth.
It's weird to hear about Denzel though. I always figured he would be a nice guy. It's like when hearing about Morgan Freeman, kind of a buzzkill.
I love Balki. And yes, I saw him on Surreal Life too and don't know if he was playing it up or not but he was a bit of a weirdo horndog. Still he wasn't unlikeable and he had moments of clarity where you thought he was sympathetic and honest. The worst you could say about him on that show was that his come-ons to the women were creepy and he was a bit insecure (actors!).
Denzel - believe he's an outrageous, controlling jerk. As for his request to sleep with all his co-stars, I believe it and it seems like it's a way to control his environment and the people around him (forcing them into submission) rather than a true desire to get in everyone's pants. That's my arm-chair psychologist read of it anyway.
Tom Cruise - was it here or somewhere else where people were writing stories about Tom Cruise in his early career, how he used to troll the gay bars in Boston (I'm sure other places too but some Bostonians remember it and posted) then, when he got a little famous, he would have men picked up and brought to him... and greet them in a mask to "disguise" himself? That's just a rumor (or urban legend?) but I swear I read it somewhere.
Please also bear in mind that when Bronson worked with Tommy & Eddie in the 1980s AIDS was killing off our community like nobodys business so it was actually even MORE cool to hate on gay people back then.

Life's a jest, and all things show it/I thought so once, but now I know it.
I have it on good authority that the Denzel thing is true. My young son answered an open casting call and worked with some well-known actors, though most of the cast were character actors and working actors. These were actors you would recognize. I became friendly with some of them and they were pretty much all in agreement that Denzel Washington was a nasty, arrogant prick. Which is a shame, because he is so handsome and talented. But these people were ADAMANT. And they didn't have anything to lose or gain from bashing him to someone like me who is not in the business. The guy was a nightmare to work with. The nicest? Meryl Streep. I like Bronson Pinchot. I think he should work more.

Longtime lurker, but when I saw all the "bronson is a nice guy" comments I had to say something. Bronson is a crazy on top of mount crazy as well... I met him a few times and he wreaked havok on my office and my co-workers. We didnt know if it was meds or what... but he pulled his "I am a big star" and "do you know who I am" moments on us as well. He kicked my co-worker out of an office because he wanted to be alone to "take it all in..." He stood in the middle of the room doing some weird breathing exercises. And this was after my co-worker was nothing but pleasant to him.
Sometimes he's nice and sometimes he's a jerk, for Bronson there is no in between. And he flits from both at a moments notice.
I'm pretty sure that's why Denzel was a jerk to him. He's too much to take at times...
