It was le bad as a movie. I just watched it on hulu the other day. Those 80s movie soundtracks all sound the same. I was explaining to my son how they can be identified by the overdone reverb on the snare drum. And the women all have their 80s hair...

Paretsky wrote some good things, but she lost he edge over time--must have run out of good ideas. Her and grafton probably secretly think the other one copied their single female private eye with an elderly landlord/helper idea.

Tuna, I will picket with you if HWood ever gets their hands on Jack Reacher!! I can see it now . . . Tommy Girl would want to play Reacher who is over six feet tall and big as a house. No, I hope Lee Child keeps Reacher far away from Hollywood.

I love Sue Grafton's books, even though she did miss the mark on a few of them. Overall, Kinsey is a great character. Her next book is coming out in a few weeks. I think it's called "U is for Undertow." It's not true that Grafton hasn't been asked by Hollywood to sign over her books. In fact, she has been offered millions for the character but always refused. I say, good for her. Money isn't everything.

My favorite series these days is the "Stephanie Plum" books by Janet Evanovich. They are hilarious, really. Several times I've been sitting quietly eating by myself, reading one of the books, and all of a sudden laugh out loud!! Really funny character.

Thanks for the heads up about the Robb books. I have two of the "Death" books that were given to me that I haven't read yet. Will read soon!!

If selling the rights to your works of literature makes you a sellout, then JM Coetzee and Cormac McCarthy qualify...but since Sue Grafton mass-produces the literary equivalent of CSI Miami, she's a sellout to begin with. Screw integrity! Legitimate novels rarely make the authors rich, so they should sell the rights as soon as they get an offer..

I've read them all except the last one. Great author.

Cornwell must be one of the most miserable millionaires alive if her recent books are any indication.... Talk about self-involved misery.

I think I quit reading Grafton around O or P. The overall premise is interesting - everything takes place in a mostly direct timeline in the late 80's. I think at one time, Grafton said she was trying to make each book count for about a month.

I love Robb's In Death series. I got behind and have the last four sitting on my shelf. I'm glad to hear she got better again, because the one I last read was total suck. She neutered Roarke. Maybe it was me, but the books seemed to go downhill as soon as she started putting them out in hardcover with "Nora Roberts writing as J.D. Robb!" Holiday in Death is my absolute favorite.

I haven't read Cornwell's Scarpetta since they killed off Benton then brought him back to life in the next book. Shitty author trick.

The minute any of these gets sold off to make movies is when I'm officially done with them. I stopped reading Kathy Reichs' Tempe Brennan series when they started that piece of shit show based on the books, "Bones."

Thanks again ISMU! I typically don't read Nora Roberts. I tried Patricia Cornwell, but didn't agree with the hype. Yes, some great movies have been adapted from books, but more often than not, Hollywood ruins them.

Webberbear- Robb is an alias for Nora Roberts. I've never gotten into her other books but the In Death series is so well written with great characters. A few years ago a few of the books got a little rushed and fluffy but she's been back on track for the last several.

It's a large series and it's definitely worth reading in order if you can manage it.
