She was very charming on Conan and I hope she takes better care of herself now that she has found success. She doesn't have to become skinny or even below a size 14 , but she NEEDS to loose weight because the body can only take so much.

And @ Bareleybeagle, I do genuinely give a shit, I help people lose weight as my job and I see first hand the world of hurt she has in front of her if she doesn't make some big lifestyle changes when she is young. I also believe a lot of people on this board think she is a likeable person and genuinely would like to see her improve herself. Yes there are petty people out there, but a lot care too.

ILRArmitage, I'm glad you said the truth. Any time you see a family of overweight people, someone will undoubtedly say "Oh it's in their genes." No, it's more in their kitchen. If mom is deep frying everything, using sticks of butter at every meal, eating junk food all the time, guess what? Everyone in that family will be fat.

Though I find this actress very charming and lovely, esp. after her Conan interview, she is totally setting herself up for major health issues. Even before the diabetes, the hypertension, the heart disease, the clogged arteries, the fertility issues, I can bet you her knees hurt as she walks, her back hurts from her large breasts, and her self-esteem has definitely taken blows over the years. Interesting, Monique has lost some weight recently for health issues and she says that she gets criticism for losing the weight, but she retorts back, "Do you want me dead?"

I just read Push for the first time the other day and was taken back by how good it is. I don't think I'll go see the movie even though I really like Gabby Sidibe from what I've seen in interviews. From what I understand the movie is very BET-ized...do not want. I'd rather keep the book in my mind.

I actually think it's in the shopping cart filled with shit foods. Every week when I go to the grocery store, I am amazed at all the really fat parents and kids that are there with carts brimming with sodas, chips, cookies, donuts, and tons of salty, processed shit and no fruits and vegetables or fresh meats. If you feed your kids shit, they will look like shit. It is a shame to see 7 or 8 year old kids with fat rolls and double chins and 17 inch necks. Teach them to eat an apple instead of a bag of chips and send them the fuck outside to run around instead of planting them in front of a tv for hours on end.

I really want to read this book no matter how jarring it may be.

There are still some books to this day that affect me more than others, but I am glad I read them.

Fast food -- the root of all evil.

Like I said before, I sympathize with people who struggle with obesity. And I do believe that yes, some people have terrible metabolisms that make it much harder to lose weight even when they eat properly.

I certainly don't want this girl to get on the Oprah Winfrey cycle where she got skinny from liquid diet and starvation. Or the Kate Bosworth and Lohan foray into anorexia. But it would be good for her if she could get her weight down in order to have a long life. Wouldn't it have been great if we could still have John Candy making movies?

dcgirl and louise_brooks: I usually read books instead of watching the films, but in this case, I think I made a good choice. The movie devastated me, the book would probably send me to a psych ward.

And yes, as kids, you don't realize why classmates may be odd, or big, or stinky or whatever the case may be - then you grow up and realize what hell they lived.

The book is excellent and about 20 times more horrific then the movie could ever be. She is abused in every way imaginable. It's very short, but excellent.

You're right about the book. It's a story that never leaves you. I read it years ago, and it made me realize that, as a child, there had been girls like Precious in my classes. Not all of them were large black girls; some were teeny little white girls. It still angers me that obvious signs of abuse against them were ignored by teachers and other adults. I hope there lives got better.
