The Hoff was hospitalized on Friday after he reportedly suffered a seizure following a two-day booze binge. Radar says that the doctors aren't ready to release The Hoff back into the wild (and into the arms of a Jack Daniels bottle) just yet. They have stamped a Code 5150 on The Hoff's nalgas and will keep him for up to 72 hours for a psychiatric evaluation.
Apparently, some of The Hoff's family members have wised up and want him to go directly to rehab from the hospital. The Hoff recently denied that he has a problem with the sauce, so who knows if he'll go.
Methinks The Hoff's family will have to get creative if they want him to go to rehab. They should trick him by leaving a trail of deliciously greasy cheeseburgers from his hospital room door to the front steps of the rehab clinic.

For the past few years whenever he gets hospitalized, they put out stories like, dental emergency, allergic reaction, flu, bad reaction to cold meds, exhaustion, stomach virus...The Guy is a Drunk and he needs to fire his PR enablers.
Makes you wonder how fucked up his ex-wife is, if a full blown alcoholic like him gets full custody of the kids...

Absolutely agreed. Alcoholism is an incredibly selfish addiction; it's all about the drinker. Hasselhoff has resources (ie - Money) available to help himself dry out & get straight, yet the self centered dumbass refuses to do so, and apparently wants to drink himself to death. He has no excuse; none whatsoever. He's not only letting down those that believe in him, but he's also giving the middle finger to his daughters & family; what an arrogantly selfish asshole. When he dies (and it will probably be soon, based on his frequent binges & hospitalizations), he will be held up as an example of what "not to do".

I met the Hoff about 15 yrs ago in Hawaii at a lil store. He's so freaking tall! his wife was with him, but she was looking for the booze aisle (now that I go back in time in my mind). I didn't know what it was...cause I was a lil kid so no clue what alcohol aisle was back in the day. I only knew that aisle was a no no! I was speechless when I saw the Hoff cause I had a mini crush on him in Knightrider. ((blushes))

there was a period a couple of years ago when i was working with violent emotionally disturbed kids getting hit, kicked, punched etc and i was EXTREMELY unhappy and i would go home and drink like two bottles of wine a night...i got kicked in the head by my one of my kids and i was trying to taper off booze and a couple days later i had a seizure at work...neurologist seemed to think it was a combo of the two...that was my one and only (i know it's not the same situation as hoff) but i believe they happen after you consume alot and suddenly stop (i think someone already mentioned that)
Physical dependency on alcohol can only occur after a period of major, sustained alcohol abuse.
It takes a willed effort to become dependent on alcohol, it is not an affliction that attacks the self from some external source.
I have no sympathy for alcoholics - empathy is a finite resource and best invested in the children and spouses of these people who spend their day searching for hidden bottles, looking behind cushions for the glass that has been quickly stuffed away from sight when the drunk heard somebody coming down the stairs, and who can't sleep at night because they hear the car starting at 3AM.

I'm in complete agreement that the world can suck hardcore ass. But to paraphrase one of my mom's favorite songs, I beg your pardon, the world never promised you a rose garden. Like has been pointed out time and again here every time a celeb OD's, there but for the grace of Buddah/Jesus/Athena go I, and you can never truly know the depths of hell an individual's mind is navigating. But at the same time, I also know people like the couple I mentioned, whose major problem seems to be not just their family's genetic disposition to alcoholism, but also their attitude that they are owed a perfect world where they don't have to exert themselves to find happiness, meaning, etc., and even if they manage that, that they won't get hit by a bus after they HAVE "made it." Just my 2 centavos on this; just it's hard to be sympathetic to the addicts you know first-hand are assholes whether drunk or sober.
--- BUT I still believe that it is correct and prevents more costly incarceration to first give addicts a chance at lockdown rehab. You won't save everyone, but it will prevent the state from spending more down the road.

Rent a space and have the court funnel in the people for re-education at 40$ a session, once a week for 6 months. Cunt Court system fines you 4 different times for the same infraction.

Same with companies that manufacture diabetes testing and treatment supplies. We're going to have a WAVE of diabetes soon. There's an industry that supports it, so there will NEVER be a cure.

Having gone through drunk-and-in-denial drama over the weekend, I find myself even less sympathetic to this belligerent, spent celeb turd's quest to kill his liver. Our nearly-guests have used up the good will of all of their remaining family and friends, and I feel more sorry for the female half of these people because she went to rehab and was clean for half a year before the asshole she's in tru wuv with sunk her back in it. Bottom line is I do believe it's a biochemical addiction, but at the same time it takes the addict wanting to get better and get into treatment. The problem is that these two, like Hoff, have had a lifetime of never having to work very hard at anything, and roping in enablers to mooch off of so they can comfortably drink themselves stupid. BTW, this lady is currently inpatient tonight for the 2nd time for pancreatic failure, so this might just be her final week. Anyway, yeah, CHEERS (p.s., when you are a social drinker who understands addiction but has never been an addict nor plans to be, it SUUUUCKS to have self-righteous a-holes quoting AA cliches at you while they reek of booze; all the while we are hiding the eggnog and champs in the safe. So yeah, no sympathy for the Hoff and all my sympathy to his children/fam.

I used to work in a mental hospital and I recognize a few of you. A 5150 is code for malling---->
I used to work in mental health and it happened all the time; people can have you "court committed" and you're placed on a 72 hr hold unless the dr releases you sooner. You then go to a hearing for either release or a longer stay. Most of our patients were committed for substance abuse due to concern from family.

Section 5150 is a section of the California Welfare and Institutions Code (specifically, the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act or "LPS") which allows a qualified officer or clinician to involuntarily confine a person deemed to have a mental disorder that makes them a danger to him or her self, and/or others and/or gravely disabled.
