My problem, nonetheless, is that flying the dogs to the northeast does NOTHING to actually help them. The people in the NE are doing no better financially than the people in Hollywood; they will not be running out to adopt a dog in this economy. So she helped fly the dogs out, now what? They get put down a few days later and in another region of the country than they would otherwise have because she flew them out? There is not a higher demand for these dogs out there. If anything, it's L.A. people who have a fascination with toy dogs. These dogs will die and that $25K was just in vain. Well, let me take that back, I guess she did help the airline industry a bit.

I am fostering a chihuahua right now, the Chi rescue in california has already gotten 6k and can't take anymore. So many of these dogs are sweet, mine had an owner who had a stroke. Most of the dogs are homeless due to owner job loss, and owners losing their homes. My humane society has so many of them that if they are surrendered they are put to death by the end of the week no matter how great the dog may be. Ive never had a chi, and had only cats for the last 15 years but I couldn't see the dog dying for no reason. If you can foster or give a little dog a good home this would be the time to do it!

Theoretically it would be best for everyone who is able to across the board contribute to humans, animals, land conservation, etc. But why can't a person choose an area in which to alleviate suffering or destruction? To assume that we all will only assist animals after all human causes are attended to is severely misguided since part of reality is that there will always be human suffering. If we waited for that to be "solved" first, then we would never have room to help animals, or ecology, or plants, and on and on, which in turn would exacerbate human suffering.
