While I agree that there have always been famous women involved in sex scandals to some degree, there are differences between today's situations and your examples. First of all, women of the past didn't seek notoriety through sex scandals. Also, the NATURE of these sex scandals was different. Liz Taylor had an affair with Eddie Fischer that led to their subsequent marriage. She had an affair with Richard Burton that led to TWO marriages. Bacall's affair with Bogart led to marriage as well. These affairs were between equals, you might say, in the sense that both participants were equally famous and wealthy as their counterparts. It is also obvious that these affairs were romantic and passionate in nature. That is not the same as a world-famous Tiger Woods hooking up with some random Perkins manager or Elliot Spitzer hiring a prostitute. The sex scandals of today often involve extremely UNBALANCED affairs in which the men involved have no intention of becoming emotionally connected to the 'other' woman. These affairs are demeaning to the women involved with them instead of romantic/passionate.
