The Golden Globe Noms: Meryl vs. Meryl

The Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning, and most of the names we expected to hear came up (Examples: Mo'Nique, Precious, George Clooney, Mad Men, True Blood, Jane Lynch...blah blah blah).

Meryl Streep got nominated OF COURSE. If Meryl sat in front of a web cam, and recited from Chris Brown's now-defunct Twitter account while wearing an "I Love Tiger Woods" half-shirt, she'd still get a nomination. This year, Meryl got two nominations in the same category. She was nominated in the Best Actress in a Comedy category for Julie & Julia and It's Complicated. Meryl is going to knife fight herself for the trophy. Meryl is up against Marion Cotillard (Nine), Sandra Bullock (The Proposal) and Julia Roberts (Duplicity). YES! Sandra Bullock got nominated for the damn Proposal! Anybody who saw that wreck knows that the hawk who stole the dog deserves a nomination before Sandra's ass. And Julia Roberts? Just shut that category down and give the golden testicle to Meryl already.

Up In the Air got the most movie nominations with 6 followed by Nine and Avatar. On the TV side, Glee got 4 followed by 30 Rock and some other hos. Once again, Lafayette and Randi Sue from True Blood WERE ROBBED! Instead, they decided to give a nomination the worst bitch on that show: Soooookeh. I'll be writing letters TO.DAY. Believe it.

After the jump is the most of the nominations for The Annual Christina Hendricks Awards, which will be held in January or something. Motorboat and JUMP!!!

2009 the worst year for movie goers that I can remember!! The Worst Ever!!When they nominate Sandra Bullock for anything Ugh!

MadameLollipop's picture

DEXTER AND MICHAEL C.HALL SHOULD WIN THE FUCKING LOT!! Absolutely BRILLIANt

delirio's picture

I like True Blood, but I think it gets nominated only because Alan Ball and Anna Paquin are recognized in Hollywood, I mean if they were Fulanito and Menganita they would get nothing

RoadDogXXIV's picture

I'm surprised that Meryl Streep's also nominated for It's Complicated. So far, it stands at 38% at RottenTomatoes.

Bda's picture

Are you serious? WOW! These white critics are something else. Fuck - George, Julia and Meryl don't have to do shit and will still get nominated. Julia Roberts is a hag no one is checking for her anymore. My girl Sandy better win! That George Clooney movie looked sooooo boring! I cannot believe it got the most nominations. And has it even been released yet?

I have not seen this film (duplicity), but I am willing to bet Julia Roberts is starring as the “spunky, clever female character". Oh how surprising. Yawn.

JeffreyDahmer's picture

Dexter better win this year. I never have any faith in these award shows, but I have a feeling it will.

BALLZ's picture

Dexter is far and away superior to True Blood in every way...except Skarsgard's hotness. Michael C. Hall makes Bill and Sookie look like middle school drama nerds. Not to mention, there are no words to compare Lithgow's guest role to Evan Rachel Boring's. "Inferior" doesn't even come close.

Where are all the Sci-Fi shows?
Not a single nomination!
What about Fringe, Supernatural, Torchwood "Children of Earth", Stargate?
To just name a few!
What about a category just for Sci Fi!!!

Whatever's picture

I love how every year films come out in December and then get nominated for like 500 Oscars when no one has seen them yet.

What is Dexter? WHAT IS DEXTER!?

The best concept a show has had in fucking HOLLYWEIRD in forever!!!

And he's hwat bitch!!! HWAT I SAY!!!

I agree. Dexter's a great show, but I think half of my enthusiasm watching is related to how sexy Hall looks in that killing uniform.

I am disappointed that Sons of Anarchy did not get any love this year. At least a nod for best Drama would have been fair.

I am baffled in general how the same TV shows are nominated again this year as last year.

With the exception of Glee, I see nothing outstanding with any of these TV nominees. Oh wait... I see NPH got some love.

But seriously the whole House thing is past it's prime. As brilliant as Hugh Laurie is... the writing in general for that show is sub-par.

Why is it Bones, Chuck... hell even NCIS get ignored?? All three had great seasons. On the top of their game and no love what so ever from the voters. Do these voters even live in America?

Seems to me that no one (voters) are really watching the actual shows anymore if these are their choices for nominees.

Looks as if everyone is reading the same PR nonsense about what is great! And not really watching and forming a unbiased opinion.

And I am stunned at Julia Roberts getting that nomination too! Holy crap that was an awful movie.

Loved that Sandra Bullock got some love for The Blindside. And 500 Days of Summer got some love too. Both good movies.

It is just those TV nominations that stun me.

ISprainedMyUvula's picture

I love Anna Kendrick. She's the real deal- the youngest person ever to win a Tony Award. Nice to see her getting some accolades.

Glad about Basterds (yeah, I went out this AM to Best Buy for my Blu-Ray copy, so colour me fangurl if ya want) I love that movie, Waltz FTW.
On the other hand.... Julia Roberts? Really?
@SpiceDong, the only part of The Proposal I enjoyed was Betty White, though, truth, anything she is in, I kinda feel the same way, but if they'd nommed her for Supporting, then I would be all about it, but otherwise, come on. They might as well have nominated Ryan Reynolds' abs.

Ughh. I am so damn out of the loop. I have never seen even one episode of True Blood. And I have only seen the first season of Dexter. Loved Dexter but for whatever reason never caught any other seasons.

I think I am going to have to make a trip to MovieStop this weekend. Trade in some of my old DVD's. Because I'm broke and can't be spending hundreds of dollars on all these TV show boxsets.

I desperately want to see True Blood. But I want to start with the pilot episode and work my way up.

My stupid ass watches the Full House marathons on the N every week night.

KidL's picture

Good for January Jones. Would have loved to see a nom for Victor K.-the guy who plays Pete on Mad Men.

Mama Moore's picture

Fuck Glee. I am not hopping on the Glee bandwagon despite the huge lesbionic crush I have on that tall split licker.

lol this is true

she's alright, just getting played out

I kinda think these nominations sucked pretty bad, but I'm happy "Glee" got some love

Aunt Bea's picture

What no Twilight?

The Propsal was ridiculous, Julia in ANYTHING is ridiculous....love Marion.

Stoney's picture

I don't know. I watched it back when I had cable. Sorry. Go to the HBO website. It will say if it's out on DVD or not.

Han't Meryl been nominated for every movie she's starred in?

chowgirl, NO SPOILERS! I'm one of the ho's that does not have Showtime, I have to get through season 3 & 4 still....

But yes, I got hooked when CBS used it as filler and showed part of season 1.

It's also beautifully shot. But it's still shkeevy he married his sister IRL.

Hey you! All is good with me and about the same with the sister ;-) I'm not on here so much anymore since I got a SUPER, NASTY virus from one of the links MK posted. It was on my work 'puter too...not a good situation. So now I'm very careful to not click on ANY link, but just to post comments now and then.

lovemyboy's picture

Stoney, I have no idea, I just started watching. I rent them from Blockbuster. I think I read online season 4 starts back up in January.

I love the show! It would be better if the DVD's I rent weren't always scratched though...hahaha!

Jesus, is it Friday yet?

Inglorious Bastards, really? God, why would anyone want to see a documentary about the Jolie-Pitt kids?

DESIGNER GENES's picture

Ooooh. for me it's a tossup between which was better this season, True Blood or Dexter. I guess it boils down to how predictable I felt the ending for this season's Dexter was...I called it when they finally revealed what Trinity's pattern was (don't want to have SPOIL it for anyone who hasn't seen it). This season was leagues better than last--that whole Miguel Estrada story arc was a snooze. But True Blood was insane this season, and if it's this epic already after 2 seasons, it can only get better--or dramatically worse. Sookie's broke ass accent should get a lifetime achievement award for not up and quitting that bitch.

lovemyboy's picture

Does anyone watch Big Love? I just started season 2, I like this series.

BRADIFUL BITCH's picture

p.s. For the Dexter virgins, the soundtrack makes it all even more highlarryus.

Angel_I -- I don't know why, but I'm not feeling "House" this season, though I'll always love Hugh Laurie.

Yeah, I wouldn't say it was as good as Dexter either. But it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be...

Julia Roberts in Duplicity one of the worst pieces of crap I've seen in my life....

I feel asleep while we were watching this movie. We started it again the next night..but man, that shit was bad. We didn't even finish it.

Angel_I -- I don't know why, but I'm not feeling "House" this season, though I'll always love Hugh Laurie. I really cannot stand Olivia Wilde -- she makes me absolutely sick. She thinks she's so damn sexy. She strike me as the type who wouldn't wear deodorant.

EVERYONE -- see "DEXTER"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yo, I'll tell y'all what Dexter is: It's some nasty shit that happened to an old trick who used live in MY house--dude didn't pay his regular hooker-bill (or whatever) so his 'girl' went apeshit on his ass upstairs in one the rooms.

Still have the circled bloodspatter marks from PD we're trying to paint over. I ran out of Kilz over the weekend...True story. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
