Shane Sparks Arrested On Child Molestation Charges
Shane Sparks, a judge on America's Best Dance Crew and a guest choreographer on So You Think You Can Dance?, was arrested early this morning for allegedly committing acts of child touching. The District Attorney's office in Los Angeles filed 9 8 counts of child molestation charges against Shane.
According to documents obtained by TMZ, the child touching allegedly began in 1994. Shane is accused of committing lewd acts upon an underage girl who was at least 10 years younger than him. The documents state Shane was born in 1969 (his Wikipedia bio says 1974), so he was 25 at the time. That means the girl was 15-years-old or younger. (Insert a Mary Murphy scream of horror here)
Shane is currently being held on $590,000 bail.
Shane isn't the only SYTYCD choreographer that has been accused of not keeping his hands to himself. Alex Da Silva was arrested in April for allegedly raping 4 of his dance students.
Um. The producers of SYTYCD need to make Chris Hansen a regular judge from now on.

They say the recidivism rate is off the charts for child molesters, so I would imagine we'll soon be hearing from NEW victims.

I totally agree. I watch pretty much anything with dancing and that show is awful. I have a friend who is a choreographer in LA and works with Shane. He said that not only is he NOT shocked by this but that Shane is a total douche and SHORT!

'America's Best Dance Crew' Judge Shane Sparks Arrested and Charged With Child Molestation
Choreographer was arrested on Friday morning.

Los Angeles police arrested "America's Best Dance Crew" judge Shane Sparks (born Melvin Shane Sparks), Friday morning (December 18) on a felony warrant and charged him with eight counts of felony child molestation. He is being held on $590,000 bail.
According to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, Sparks was taken into custody at around 8 a.m. PT on Friday on a felony warrant charging him with molestation that began in 1993 and allegedly continued until 1997.
Sparks, whose age was listed as 40 in the arrest warrant, was charged with six felony counts of committing a lewd act on a child, identified by her first name and last initial as being under the age of 14, "with the intent of arousing, appealing to, and gratifying the lust, passions and sexual desires of the said defendant and the said child." The alleged incidents are said to have occurred between July 1, 1994 and August 1, 1994, December 1, 1994 and August 3, 1995, August 4, 1995 and April 30, 1997 and April 4, 1995 and April 30, 1997.
He was also charged with two counts of oral copulation of a person under the age of 16 by someone over the age of 21 for incidents that allegedly occurred between April 4, 1995 and April 30, 1997 and August 4, 1995 and April 30, 1997.
KTTV Fox News 11 in Los Angeles reported that the victim was one of Sparks' dance students at Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles.
MTV had no comment on the arrest, and a rep for Sparks told MTV News that no comment was available at press time.
Cincinnati-born Sparks has worked with Brandy, Aaliyah, Monica and Lindsay Lohan and was nominated for an Emmy for his choreography on "So You Think You Can Dance."

From the way the story is written, it appears to me that the alleged crimes got reported WITHIN the statute of limitations in CA (3 years per the interwebs) and possibly he failed to appear in court, thus resulting in a FELONY WARRANT. So I guess he gets to deal with it now. The D.A. is pushing the issue, which I totally support.

I believe it...Shane always seems like such a tool on the show. They need to just do away with America's Best Dance Crew altogether. It hasn't been hot since the first season when the Jabbawockeez won and ALL the judges (especially Lil' Mama) are AWFUL and awfully conceited.
I never understood the whole hip hop gangsta scene. It's filled with anger and (sexual) violence. Therefore these allegations come as no surprise to me. This guy too looks like he almost strives to be a molester. His arrogant mug, standard gangsta attire and gestures spell teeny-weeny peen to me. Of course he had to turn to a girl. I believe the statute of limitations has run out on the incident that MK quoted, but if he's charged with (as MK quoted) 98 (???) counts of child touching, then the victim listed was probably only part of the investigation and not part of the charges against him, I'd think. I'm not sure about the statute of limitations in his state, but I believe in many states for sex crimes, it's around 10 years or so. I figure this because I had a neighbor as a child who was a child toucher and once his child touching ways came to light ( to which he freely admitted) the statute of limitations had run out...and no, he didn't mess with me...I'd a taken that man's dick off wif my baby tiger teef. He was molesting his own adopted sons...GROSS! Yep, and even though he admitted that he did that to his sons and one other boy that he used to be a scout leader for, he's free and clear...and an ordained minister....

A civil case can be brought for damages.
The DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S office is handling this = CRIMINAL charges.

I imagine there might be provisos for fines and such in a criminal case, but real money in terms of damages would be through a civil case.
