Trina Is Mad
Right after taking the stage at a party, Trina, the self-proclaimed "baddest bitch," went off on prolific poet Khia. Trina told the audience how she really felt about Khia claiming that she's the true HBIC of the 305.
Coincidentally, this is pretty much the same speech Ivana Trump gave to the screaming kids on her flight.

Fuck all that noise about stereotypes. Can these chicks get a bigger budget for professional styling and hair care written into their recording contracts? I get tired of hearing females bragging about diva this, real bitch that, and then they show up someplace looking like a slapped ass cuz they're too scared to tell their mommas and BFFs that their style is for shit. Homemade looking bitches always give me secondhand embarrassment.

I dıdn't say they thought he sounded lıke Flavor Flav. I am sımply statıng they dıdn't hear proper Englısh from a black Amerıcan. The last tıme I heard black Amerıcans had a wıde range of accents just lıke any other ethnıc group ın Amerıca. And I don't thınk I am paranoıd that after lıvıng ın Germany for sıx years they stıll ask me where I REALLY am from. As ıf someone not whıte has less claım to lıvıng there than a person of color.

I don't think that people in Germany who watched the Cosby Show thought that Bill Cosby talked like Flavor Flav does. I know I didn't! After all, The Cosby Show was an 80's show and there were so many black music artists back then which made great music and didn't perpetuate the ghetto image in the minds of people to make money. And why should people dub a show differently than its original version?
I think that's a bit paranoid of you to think. ;)
That works both ways because there are plenty of counter-programmıng to Trına but ıt never sees the lıght of day.
I totally agree with you here. And that's a pity!

In Germany they dub 'The Cosby show' but 'Flavor of Love' ıs not dubbed.
Now I know good and goddamn well Germans have no ıdea what Flav ıs sayıng because sometımes *I* even don't but he fıts the stereotype.
And by dubbıng 'The Cosby Show' they don't know what an educated black person sounds lıke and so they thınk anyone black and Amerıcan sounds lıke they faıled 2nd grade.

I know that there are different kinds of rap/hiphop but - I will say it again - I am talking about the mainstream rap/hiphop artists which are on music television 24/7 and that is hardly 'good' rap/hiphop since it is doing black people a disservice because it is so omnipresent in the media that people like you have to deal with the resonance.
And I think that as long as the music is cool you can sing the manual of your dish washer and it will be a hit but you aren't limited to make yourself look like a dumb ghetto gangster/pimp or stupid bitch that opens her legs for every dick in front of her. If that is the way you're choosing to be perceived by the world than you have to live with the consequences.

You're only proving my point. If you look at the mainstream music business (and I'm not talking about underground music artists but music that is shown on MTV and whatever mainstream music channels there are all over the world) the way black people are representing themselves is through that image
__________________
Die gelangweilt - you are missing the entire point of my issue with that comment from you about this clip. This is not how black people are representing themselves. That is how some black artists, like Trina, represent themselves. They don't somehow represent black people, just like you don't, all of the sudden, represent your skin color. When I see an artist acting out, I don't think oh these "insert random skin color" people, representing their race badly...
As I said in my post, having grown up in NYC, I know and am close to plenty of black people and hardly any of them represent THEMSELVES with this stereotype that you are referring to in your post.

How am I provıng your poınt? Because there are positive and negatıve ımages of rap. But medıa conglomerates choose to play what they thınk wıll sell albums and fuel theır bottom lıne.

I agree. But my tinfoil hat thinks there's more to it. It's part of my MJ theory. As MJ grew into a teen he sang about gang war (lol- so cute) and absentee parenting (Billy Jean - the video is straight up scandalous) and dancing and as he got older he was choosing to take on some broader issues and that's when the shit really started hitting the fan.
Like, I said - this is a party. People can have their moments of feeling like this and then step out into the daylight. Only the media makes it so the only daylight is more of this.
Rap is traditionally political (as well as being a huge pissing contest, a social barometer and spot of comedy) but no station is going to start playing political music. Sometimes I find it weird when I go back to listening to the "oldies" of the 60s, 70s and 80s and remember that pop music was, sometimes, about social issues but now it never is....but that was back when they allowed the public to take them where they wanted to go - which is more like an adventure, rather than guide them back and forth along the same old paths...wait. I just said that. Did I? Something like that.

Um, first of all, before calling me stupid and all the other things you could at least wait until I posted a response.
I wasn't talking about that clip in particular but about steretypes in the hiphop/rap culture. And I wasn't talking about the way she speaks but about women identifying themselves with those bitch/ho stereotypes (and unfortunately being proud of being called like that as well) or men being proud of being perceived as pimps.
To thıs day I can be anywhere ın the world and people are shocked that I speak 'good Englısh' because I am black. Well guess what? Not all black people sound lıke they fell out of the 5th ward just lıke not all whıte people have degrees from a unıversıty.
I personally am opposed to thıs 'n*gger thıs/n*gger that' usage because those words are the fırst ones foreıgners assocıate wıth Afrıcan-Amerıcans and they thınk ıt ıs proper to use ıt because of course ALL black Amerıcans use ıt. They are wrong to thınk that because I never use ıt.
You're only proving my point. If you look at the mainstream music business (and I'm not talking about underground music artists but music that is shown on MTV and whatever mainstream music channels there are all over the world) the way black people are representing themselves is through that image. I'm from the ghetto and these are my bitches and those are my thugs. Yo, n***er etc. etc. and then you are seriously scratching your head why people talk to you like that? I know, it is idiotic and ignorant of them but that's also partly the fault of mainly African American music artists limiting themselves to those stereotypes.

And I might also say that this behaviour's not awful. That's what art is for - what music and dancing, theatre (cuz this really is just a piece of theatre, innit?) is for - we can't always be Mary Sunshine with the good, happy, harmonious feelings. Sometimes we feel angry or tough or just powerful and mean...sometimes you need to find a way to get that shit outta your system. This kind of thing is a way more positive way to deal with/express those feelings than beating on each other. And I say this cuz it's at a party. It's not an advertisement for Barbie, nawmsayin'?

Why do so many black people limit themselves to such stereotypes?
_____________
I don't understand how Trina going off on a gangster rap rival at a club somehow lends itself to so many black people limiting themselves to stereotypes.
I know plenty of black people, and very few fall into this so called stereotype you mention.
i'm not black nor white but i lived in one of the whitest areas of virginia (i was the first hispanic person some of them met) around the time i graduated from high school, khia's "my neck, my back" was a hit for a lot of people, white and black alike except for the teachers who used to write referrals for being disrespectful when they'd have it...so i really don't think the race card has anything to do with knowing her or not.
Submitted by TheBreakdown on Mon, 12/28/2009 - 2:33pm.
oh, ok- i know that song ... my neck, my back, lick my pussy and my crack... lol are those the right words??
and i do remember Trina- just not sure if it was the same one- she did get all skinny (tweaker skinny) right?
but- i live in the south, and my boyf does listen to some underground (9th wonder, ever heard of them? they're local) and Shelly B- who i really like, but we're not really hearing a lot from either of these chicks right now. (i'm not)

Khıa had a worldwıde hıt wıth 'My Neck My Back' then she had a duet wıth Janet (So Excıted). But she ıs a staple ın the south and underground for her mıxtapes, etc.

I watch this and I get truly embarrassed. They are the reason white people in the South are always saying that I'm articulate or very nice.
In other news, if a bitch fight would erupt between the twos, I'd bet on Khia. That bitch looks so hood, like she's seen and been through it all.
Anyway, these people are too old for that. I don't remember when Khia had that one hit, but I remember Trina from the late 90's and from then on, it's a blank.
