This Is Not SuBo's Week
Susan Boyle is having one of those weeks that just makes you want to choke out a cat (Pebbles, report to the nearest safe house). A couple of nights ago, SuBo strolled into her home looking forward to a peaceful night of pussy petting with Pebbles. But instead SuBo found a creepy intruder inside her house. As soon as the intruder dude spotted SuBo, he ran out of there. SuBo is afraid to go back to her house, because she thinks the stalker might come back. And if that isn't making SuBo lick a Valium, then this might.
SuBo's idol of all idols Elaine Paige (star of Cats, Chess, Evita, etc...) isn't going to join her knitting circle any time soon. Elaine tells the Daily Mail that she thinks SuBo is a YouTube virus that infected the entire world in just a few seconds. Elaine explains, "I don't particularly feel any pride for her - I'm sure she is proud of what she has done. It's all about turning someone into an immediate celebrity at the expense of longevity and working hard and experience. Susan Boyle is doing terribly well considering she literally came to the attention of the world overnight with the advent of YouTube. She was like a virus really that spread across the world in a nanosecond. She is a girl with no experience of anything to do with theatrics, the music business, or art in any way. She has done terribly well to be a major star overnight with YouTube."
And when Elaine was asked if she thinks the SuBo virus will continue to spread, she answered, "That's a good question. She is a major star because of YouTube. Longevity is gained through knowledge, experience and effort so it will remain to be seen. When I started, YouTube didn't exist but even then with 15 years of experience prior to my success with Evita it was difficult, so I admire the way she handled her sudden success. Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor just take a bunch of people from real life who think they can sing and try and turn them into overnight 'stars' with a couple of songs. Ha ha. It's not entertainment."

A virus is something that seeps into your pores, eats at your soul and just won't go away no matter how much you try to destroy it with huge amounts of booze, drugs and episodes of Mr. Belvedere (the latter usually works). It infiltrates your brain and occupies every single thought you have. You punch at your ears to make it go away, but it's still there. As soon as you delete it from your iTunes, someone who has been living under one of Aretha Franklin's chichis for the past year sends you an e-mail entitled: "BEST VERSION OF I DREAMED A DREAM EVER." That is a virus.

Someone is jealous. I had it playing and was reading further down -- MK just cracks me up with his brilliance -- not seeing who was singing and when it sounded really best, I went up and it was Susan. Her voice is better than Eileen's to me.
I thought Elaine Paige sounded burnt out personally. Like her voice was not what it once was. I thought SuBo sounded fresher and better. YouTube will make anyone as star for 15min. But you need some amount of talent to sell CDs and I think SuBo is pretty good (not that I am some judge of this type of music, as I listen to punk, alt folk, rock). Sounds like sour grapes to me. And if she were just starting out with her prime voice, you know she would be jumping all over teh interwebs for fame and glory.

Well, for starters -- SuBo put Ms. Elaine Paige back on the map! I would never even have heard of her if not for SuBo stating that Elaine was her idol! You go SuBo Virus!
When Elaine Paige sings she sounds like she has a clothes peg on her nose. She may have worked hard at it her career, but I'd rather listen to Susan Boyle any day.
I had a feeling her remarks were taken out of context. She might have a reputation for being difficult, but I think the British media seized the opportunity to turn her words around slightly to make them sound like an attack. They do that sort of thing all the time and it obviously makes for great press because this article is splattered everywhere.
They both sounded good, but I like Paige's voice a little better.
Is Elaine going for the Joan Rivers look? She needs to stop with the pulling of her skin behind her ears.

Oh, I enjoyed it enough, also. And as an artist, she should be more giving to folks, I guess. But I understand her bitterness if it's towards the star-making tactics of shows like X Factor. YouTube, I don't know. How can you get mad at YouTube. It is what it is.
I could not care less about the cattiness. I'm just so excited to see something from "Chess" being performed!!

I agree, but overall I enjoyed the performance. I do think Elaine is a little bitter... she's had her time in the sun and its okay to share the spotlight with other talented folks
I do think Paige kicked SuBo's ass on the video. Although I could say that Elaine might be a little too practiced, rehearsed, overworked, performed in this -- which is ironic considering her statements. As far as SuBo, I'm convinced they turned the volume up on her mic bc her voice usually isn't that strong. And SuBo's vocal wouldn't be half as interesting if Paige weren't backing her (esp 2:10-2:37). Sorta like Madonna and Babyface in Take A Bow. Heh. LOL. Stupid comparison? Oh, well. You know what I mean. The second melody or harmonies or what have you, make the song.
You know, I don't care for this type of music, but based on voice alone, I preferred SuBo's to that other bitch. Sounds like jealousy to me.

I'll admit to have grown a little tired of it all, but I still think she's a nice lady, with a great voice, who doesn't deserve the disparaging comments her idol made about her so publicly.
I think it's a case of sour grapes. Susan Boyle may not have had to work hard and meet all the right people before making a name for herself, but she has by no means had an easy life.
She was born to parents in their late forties and was bullied because she had learning difficulties. She spent her whole life looking after her elderly parents and never really had a life of her own because of this. When her mother died she was broken hearted and despite now having the success to be able to make a good life for herself she still stays in a run down house in a small town in Scotland. She has had to start a completely new life for herself at nearly fifty and I don't think it has been easy.
She is not simply a reality whore, she actually has talent. Lets hope she shows that two faced bitch what longetivity is. I hope Elaine Paige just put the nail in her own coffin.
Page should be grateful to Susan for dragging her back into the limelight. Page had her day long ago and she wasn't all that then. Bitter old cunt you are Page, fuck off back into the shadows.

After watching the Elaine and Susan duet, I'm struggling to see the benefits of spending years in the music business or going on reality shows. Neither one of them did that well. Reality check....A lot of people here in the real world can sing damn good, but never come to the attention of the star makers. For what ever reason, looks (correct me if I'm wrong didn't Miss Paige start out as a child model), weight, maybe they didn't fuck the right person, OR, possibly they're just too nice. They aren't deemed star material and don't even get a chance to pay so called dues. Blame reality TV and Simon COW-ell, not SuBo. Aside for say YouTube a bazillion times, I agree with Elaine. But to be fair, Susan is talented, and unlike most people who got YouTube famous by acting like a retarded trainwreck (Chris Crocker), she actually got where she was by being a talented singer. Despite a few breakdowns in the media, she's lived a a good life, and hasn't done much in life. I would say she's one of the VERY, VERY few people that actually deserved her instant fame. Whether or not she keeps it up, time will tell.

I understand what Elaine is saying. I think we've all come across the same situation in our own lives. It sucks.
But life is not fair, and if it hadn't been SuBo, it'd have been someone else.
And maybe it's NOT a bed of roses being an overnight sensation. Maybe Ms. Paige has a better appreciation and enjoyment of her success because she really worked for it. No reason to hate on SuBo - it'd be like hating a golden retriever.
That old lady is right overall. Today is all about how much those American Idol-type shows can exploit certain types of people, talented or not... and they are usually NOT talented at all. From those "reality" bullshit shows to singing competitions, I would bet a high percentage of the contestants suck, but it's also true that that's what average joes and janes want. People make them famous, not the media!. The media could parade them all it wants and if people don't care, they are going to be epic fails. Unfortunately, people DO care about those untalented fuckers, that's why Tila Tequila, those Jersey whatever morons and all the rest of the American Idol crap are "celebrities".
Now, for Susan Boyle, I don't think she's untalented at all. She might not be "star" material, but at least she CAN sing. True, she could take singing classes or whatever is needed to improve her singing skills, but it sucks that the old lady used her as an example of the corrupted industry.
