Captain Phil Harris From "Deadliest Catch" Has Died
Captain Phil Harris, star of Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch, suffered a stroke last month in Alaska and had to be placed under a medically induced coma to stop his brain from swelling. A few days after he was hospitalized, there was a glimmer of hope that Captain Phil would survive, but unfortunately the stroke was too severe and he went off to the Cornelia Marie in the sky last night. Captain Phil's sons delivered the sad news:
"It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad -- Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down. We will remember and celebrate that strength. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers."
One of my friends is a crackhead for this show, so this news is going to make his soul attach itself to a line of lobster cages headed for the bottom of the ocean (that part always scares the shit out of me).

I am so devestated by this news. I love The Deadliest Catch and Phil was always my favorite captain on the show. The way he was with his crew, and his sons, you could tell he loved them all so much. I dont know how I am going to watch this next season....

I watched a marathon of this show while I was laid up with all day morning sickness. I remember an episode where 7 people died!!! I had to get out of bed and walk that shit off. I was messed up mentally and physically after that.
With that said, RIP Captain.

One of the few TeeVee shows I actually watched. Phil was such a sexy bad ass.This pushes me beyonds sads, and into the Xanax bottle to self medicate.

azgirl, exactly. He continued to smoke heavily, drink gallons of coffe, and eat badly. That plus the stress of what he did for a living was a recipe for disaster. He was warned several times, apparently.
When he coughed up those clots, I had to turn it off. I was repulsed.

He made me so frustrated the way he took care of himself. That episode he was coughing up blood? He was still smoking while coughing up clots! They even showed him once with two cigs in his mouth at once. It was sad to see his sons ask him to take better care of himself.
He had a lot of health issues and I am glad he no longer has to suffer. I feel bad for his sons. He seemed like a good guy and the show won't be the same.
RIP Captain Phil! You will be missed.

This news makes me want to cry. Captain Phil seemed like such a genuine, hardworking man. There are so few men like that left in the world today, and way too many Jon Gosseleins & Michael Lohans.
I think Sig quit smoking for about ..... 3 hours.
RIP Captain Phil. I loved him on the show. He was one hell of a captain. He was tough on those boys but you could tell he loved them like nothing else.

I remember being so afraid when I saw the episode where he coughed up a blood clot. That was probably a sign. Then when I heard he had a stroke a few days ago, I thought he'd pull through, because he got treatment. No one stays forever, though... My condolences to his family. Rest in peace, Captain.

Sadness. Actually got goosebumps when I heard the news. I loved watching him trying to discipline his kids. What a big ol' softie. I honestly don't think the show will be as good without him.
And I agree with the poster who commented on Sig....he's bound to be the next with his smoking and blood pressure. His brother is so laid back, though...I don't know how that happened!

I was so saddened to hear this, he was my favorite Captain on Deadliest Catch and I loved seeing him interact with his 2 sons who you could tell he loved so much and vice versa. My condolences to Jake and Josh...rest in peace Captain Phil.
