R.I.P. Doug Fieger
Doug Fieger, the lead singer of The Knack, passed away yesterday in Los Angeles at the age of 57. Doug had been battling lung and brain cancer for the past six years. Doug's brother Geoffrey confirmed his death.
"Muh muh muh my Sharona" is probably playing on a loop in your head right now, so I don't have to tell you that The Knack is best known for that song. "My Sharona" was #1 in 1979, and became a hit all over again in the 90s thanks to Winona Ryder and Janeane Garofalo dancing to it in a gas station. But it's near and dear to my bong thanks to Cheech Marin's version: Maaaaaah Scrotum!!
And I didn't know this until recently, but Sharona is a real person! A real person who is now selling real estate in Los Angeles. You must visit her "about" page. It's a shame Doug never wrote a follow-up to My Sharona called My Escrowa.
Rest in peace, Doug.

Oh shit! I was just going to bed too! Thanks MK, the loop is not only going but I am picturing Janine Garofalo doing that stupid little jitter dance!
RIP Doug Fieger.

jeez her 'about' page is a crock of shit. really how the fuck does a song being named after her have any effect on her ability to sell properties or understand famous people, it's just a dumb ass plug to get her name out there and once being in a famous song

looks like it's working!
what?! damn, so young.
rest in peace.
RIP ...

The MTV age is indeed slipping away from us old school folks. Folks like J.J. Jackson and Ken Ober are a rude awakening for us who fought for our right to party. We're now fighting a newer fight as MTV no longer stands for Music Television and our world is no longer a simple universe of 28 cable channels and non-stop music videos...
What was the term...MK, “taking a sledgehammer to my youth.” Just another reason to feel old at age 40.
“Get the Knack” was one of the first albums I bought. It was this record along with Blondie's “Paralelle Lines” at age 9 that changed my life forever - what a break from the shitty reality of living in a broken down steel town in the late 70's.
We'll miss you Doug. At least you had your moment, something most of us can't say. You were new wave.
All of you teens and 20 somethings - wait until your rock idols start dying off - make it right, MK. I'm sick of this shit. The 80's are seeming further and further away now.
Talk about OLD...I was out of college, and engaged to be married when "My Sharona" came out. It was a really hot song, IMHO.
Sorry about Doug Fieger. My dad died of cancer almost eight years ago.
what an incredible fucking song. as a musician i can say that if you get just ONE song like that, you can consider yourself touched by the gods.
totally perverted, hot, absolutely nasty nasty song - kids these days just don't know how to do it right. for all their explicitness, pop lyrics these days leave me dry, if not embarrassed for the stupidity of the singer.
this guy moaned for the whole last bit of the song, that's how bad he wanted this underage girl, and it was sexier than all of today's top forty put together and dressed in skanky underwear.
rest in peace, Doug Fieger.

cancer just took my mom in january. it's a shame that there's no real cure out there. i mean, one that doesn't make you way more sick that you already are. i loved the knack, it's a sad day :(

also, been thinking. doug was my link to kevin bacon.(my dad played in a band with doug in high school - doug was on the list on vh1 back in the day which was hosted that day by KEVIN BACON) when they die, do you need to find new degrees or is it still legit?
Rock on and happy trails. RIP.
RIP Doug, and yes MK, that song is now playing on an endless loop in my head!
RIP, I loved the Knack in my high school years. Still do.
