Things That Should Be Illegal: Leaving Farrah Fawcett And Bea Arthur Out Of The In Memoriam Oscar Montage

Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur were both left out of the In Memoriam Oscar montage last night. Should I call the police about this illegal activity or do you want to handle this? Or is the Fail Whale already on his way?!

Farrah and Bea are primarily known for being goddesses of TV, but they both have several films credits. Farrah was in Myra Breckinridge, Logan's Run, Dr. T and the Women and Extremeties! You know you still stop in your tracks every time Extremeties comes on TV at 3 in the morning. As for Bea, I shouldn't even have to explain why she should have been included. Whenever one has the chance to showcase Bea Arthur's precious face on a giant screen, they should take it NO MATTER WHAT! It's just common sense.

Radar asked the rep for the Oscars Leslie Unger what she had to say about snubbing the shiniest stars in heaven, and this was her answer: "It is highly unlikely that we forgot about Farrah Fawcett but we unfortunately don't include everyone each year. There are many angles that are looked at as to who to include and unfortunately we don't include everyone."

Bruce Davis, the executive producer of the Oscars, added this: “It is the single most troubling element of the Oscar show every year. Because more people die each year than can possibly be included in that segment. You are dropping people who the public knows. It’s just not comfortable.

Leslie and Bruce will regret this dearly when their hair FAILS to flip and a piece of cheesecake FAILS to taste delicious.

IMO, Farrah didn't belong in the montage, but then again neither did MJ. It's true, there's only so much time they have so why stretch and open it up for certain people. Blake Snyder, a famous screenwriting teacher died, and he probably had 100 times more influence over the movie industry than Farrah did.

Aside from the hatchet job on the In Memorium, why the fuck would they move the Honorary Oscar out of the main ceremony and put it at the technical McOscar luncheon earlier in the week?
Lauren Bacall shoul've told them to shove it up their azz.

Bea was in at least two movies I can think of - "Mame"

I've been trying not toe mention this ever since I remembered it right after the SECOND time I said she only did TV. How could anyone forget Mame? So ashamed.

David Carradine, Howard Zieff, Dom DeLuise, Army Archerd, Ron Silver, Brittany Murphy, Lou Jacobi, Simon Channing- Williams, Betsy Blair, Joseph Wiseman, Kathryn Grayson, Arthur Canton, Nat Boxer (sound) Roy E. Disney, Horton Foote (writer) Budd Schulberg (writer) Michael Jackson, Natasha Richardson, and Patrick Swayze.

I don't need the Oscars to remember Farrah and Bea Arthur.

They also left out Lindsay Lohan's career and Nicole Kidman's forehead. Oscar needs to get with the program.

They couldn't extend the segment for like 5-10 seconds to show them??.. that's horrible!

ILovePapaSmurf's picture

They also showed a microsecond of David Carradine, who did more work in his career than Brittany Murphy did. I wonder if Simon Mojacker blew someone to get her included in the montage. Lame.

It would've taken all of 5 seconds to show both of these two women's pictures. Instead we had to endure "Best Short Film Animated" and other worthless shit that ran on for 15-20 minutes a piece. Quit showing ugly-ass George Clooney every 10 seconds (or Meryl for that matter) and that will give you plenty of time to include Farrah and Bea.

Did it kill Demi Moore to say a little something about Patrick Swayze? Jesus! Can't you go off script and utter, I'm gonna miss you my friend Patrick? Nope, That bitch was most likely there to pick up free shit for her and her boy toy.

I found it odd that Demi was opening this segment but it dawned on me that it was because her ties with Swayze

The SAG awards' montage was the BEST. They have Swayze walking away as he did in Ghost.

Sure, you can't include everyone...but Farrah and Bea are not d list unknowns...that was dumb dumb dumb!

with a ceremony that includes giving froze face irony free Bullock an Oscar for that hideous "Texas Crackers buys a colored boy" shit film (she should have gotten the Razzie for that mess too ) it was probably best Farrah & Bea were left out of this fuckery.

All jokes aside it was a shame these 2 icons were left out of the ceremony in favor of no names .

I like CableVision & Disney pulling ABC from its servers so half of Harlem & The Bronx couldnt see Monique get an award. NICE ONE. thieving cash sucking fucks.

EPIC FAIL.

The Academy needs to do a separate show or series about this years newly dead movie stars. Maybe they could try VH1 as they seem to excel at this sort of excess. They could do any year they wished and make a fast cheap show.I would watch, maybe get A.J. Benza out of retirement too... lol

O - I totally missed this. So - there we go: explained. You know what? I feel like this every time someone complains about the way something is done. We have created SUCH an enormous and complex system of living that I actually don't think it can serve us anymore. That's why nobody's ever happy.

I never heard of that rule and if that were the case that montage would have been 5 seconds long every year. They used to be very thorough in the past and would even include the man who swiped the soundstage. In the last few years producers have been slacking...the production gets more and more tedious and some segments are done so half-assed you can tell from miles away.

I thought the rule was you had to have been nominated for an Oscar to get included. At least I remember someone saying that a couple years back when there was a massive uproar about a couple of people being left out.

Bowchickawawa's picture

Ya, right, they don't have enough time to include everyone. Cut out the crappy ass interpretive dancing shit and, voila!, you've made time. I would be happy to help them edit out the other painful-to-watch shit so they will have more time than they do dead people.

And what in rehab-failed-miserably hell was Sean Penn on last night? He looked so fucked up. I wanted to throw him into a shower and force feed him black coffee. He wasn't simply drunk either, nor did he seem to be indulging in his drug of choice, blow. He seemed more Spicoli than that. I hope it was just some very kind bud he smoked but I got a real opiate vibe off him. Is he buds with Eli Roth?

mebbe they should stop doin the death montage if they can't include everyone-because it's just ridiculous that the Farrah and the beloved Bea weren't included.

I did too...if you were a teen in the 80's, you TOTALLY related to those films....John Hughes just *got* teenage angst like no other...

I bawled during the John Hughes tribute.

All those movies, they shaped my childhood. So good.

Rubygirl214's picture

That really pissed me off.......not to lessen the contributions of producers, directors, etc....but to include them in the tribute, and snub Farrah and Bea was just inexcusable...the Emmy's managed to include every single person who died in their tribute! Ugh....the Oscars are crap.

LondonHockeyGurL's picture

They also left out, Ed McMachon. Most of his film & TV appearances were TV credits, but they should have also included him as well.

cattitude's picture

Ricardo Montalban! omg, how could they leave him out too??
It seemed really short, you'd think there would be someone somewhere on payroll who could have done a better job putting it together!

Thanks for providing the link to the John Hughes tribute. Man..all those movies shaped my childhood. There wasn't ONE of his movies I've not seem.

God Bless the guy..What a nice tribute!!

I was actually rooting for Avatar to win Best Picture. I know the storyline was crap but I think it deserved best movie for its amazing innovative CGI graphics and best-selling movie of all time accolade.

The writing for The Hurt Locker wasn't that great either. A lot of the action and bomb difusing scenes were soooo unrealistic. The writing could ALSO have been better. Plus, I don't believe people went to the movies to see The Hurt Locker two or three times like they did with Avatar.

The loss of Avatar was another Brokeback moment for me.

ZiggyStardust's picture

If you don't have time to show them, then extend the item's fucking time slot.

The Oscars is a joke anyway. The Hurt Locker? Are you kidding me?

Farrah has gotten overshadowed twice now--on the day she died she wasn't "noticed" all that much because MJ died. Now this! She deserves all the credit in the world for her dramatic work and also for how she gracefully handled her own "ending". That montage had to have been done in a hurry OR it WAS an intentional snub!

Why they included Michael Jackson - is anyone's guess. He's a MUSICIAN and not an actor.

MJ had several films too...The Wiz and Captain EO to mention a few...that's probably why they did it. Nevertheless, I agree he's had enough recognition already.
