Corey Haim Has Died

The L.A. Times reports that teen idol Corey Haim was found unresponsive in his apartment near Burbank, CA early in this morning. Corey was rushed to Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 3:30am. The LAPD believes he died of an overdose. Corey was just 38.

Corey is best known for being featured on a poster you kept on your closet door when Lost Boys first came out. Corey also starred in other gems of the 80s like License to Drive, Dream a Little Dream and Watchers. In 2007, Corey co-starred with Corey Feldman in A&E's The Two Coreys. So now there's just one Corey....

Corey's addiction to the bad shit wasn't a secret. Anybody (and by that I mean, everybody) who watched an episode of The Two Coreys could see that he had his struggles. Sad.

Rest in peace, Corey. You brought joy into the hearts (and genitals) of a million tweens in the 80s and you had amazing hair. Seriously, his hair was amazing.

And Tiger Beat BETTER pay tribute to Corey Haim on their cover this week. I'm not joking.

There are some people who, because of genetics, (WHICH CAUSE DISEASES), cannot handle alcohol or drugs.

So they can call it a disease, because they handle these substances differently from the majority of the population.

However, to BRING ON their disease, they need to take a drink or take a drug.

PUT IT DOWN.

I have a chronic disease, and if I could put something down, I would put it down so hard the glass would shatter or the pill would crush.

I have limited sympathy.

There aren't many comments on this website, because this waste product had many opportunities to clean up this life and he did not.

His death is not only not a surprise, it was expected.

I understand addiction. It's hard to get out of addiction. I know that it is HARD.

But at least if you CHOOSE to put down the DRINK or the DRUGS, you can regain wellness.

Talking about drug addiction as a disease demeans others with diseases that cannot be cured by NOT putting things inside of your mouths and down your gullets.

Corey Haim did not die from a disease. He overdosed. It was his choice.

Which dictionary do you mean? Are you referring to Dorland's Medical Dictionary? There are many dictionaries.

If you cared so much about Haim, why did not you intervene? It would have been a waste of time. He confessed to being a life long relapser. Now he's toe-tagged.

It's not personal. He was a loser, period. He's gone and soon to be forgotten. No one still mourns over River Phoenix or Dana Plato.

The kids at St. Jude's Hospital did not ask to be struck with their diseases. Corey Haim's actions brought the inevitable results. He is the only one responsible for his demise.

Relax. What do you care, anyway? Are you so afraid that someone might someday waste some sympathy on a drug addict? O the horror!

I still think if you or your friend/family member didn't try and then get addicted to whatever drug was their undoing we wouldn't be having this conversation. Simplistic yes, I suppose. I know someone who inadvertantly opened the gates of hell of mental illness through the use of Accuntane so I get biologic predisposition and your other Tom Cruise/Dr. Phil armchair psychology.

Drug addiction is not a disease. You don't contract it without introducing it into your body. How you get the drugs is a different matter. Pharmaceutical companies produce meds, but people in the chain, from reps to pharmacists to doctors, distribute them. How they get to the streets illegally all boils down to money.

Corey Haim obtained the drugs through someone. If he had a fool for a doctor who'd write a script for anyone was his call. If he bought them illegally from a peddler, then he's in the wrong. The bottom line is he was responsible for his life and its choices. He overdosed. He admitted to being a life time relapser so he knew eventually he'd kill himself. Fuck him. Good riddance. There are many people dealing with cancer and other real diseases that don't overdose.

Haim is toe-tagged. He's gone. That joke of a human being has left the building. If anyone is still so concerned about him, where were you while he was alive? Corey Feldman tried his best to help Haim. The latter wanted no help. He knew he was swirling in the abyss and yet was still bullshitting himself, still in denial about his health. Learn the lesson from his death. Treasure your health. Don't abuse it.

wow! What a load of jerks here.

Drug addiction is a disease - a self-afflicted disease, but it's still a disease. Blame him or blame the doctor who prescribed it for him. I've been prescribed every single one of those meds he was taking and never became addicted, I'm lucky - I'm not predisposed to opiate addiction. Obviously he was. You can't help your genetics.

I'm too old to have appreciated him much in his heyday, but he seemed like a talented guy then. It's just sad.

CandyPerfumeGirl, I hear ya sister. Trying to talk sense here is sometimes a wasted effort. I totally get it though. Not everything is plain black & white. It's not either one way or another, it's always a mixture of MANY factors...addiction included.

Corey Haim had choices in his life. He made the wrong ones. He's toe-tagged. BFD.

Drug misuse is not a disease. It does not come into play like cancer. While cancer is not communicable per se, it shows up involuntarily due to a variety of carcinogens. Drug misuse is voluntary, unless an addict gives birth to a baby. Then you have a baby who comes into this world as an addict without any say in the matter.

I have no sympathy for Corey Haim's condition as a drug addict. He did it to himself. He described himself as a life-long relapser. He knew he was fucked up beyond repair and knew how he'd check out. He was lucky to make to 38.

The best thing to learn from his death is for people like LiLo, Amy Wino, and Dreamboat Petey to straighten the fuck up. If they don't, they'll OD, too. Will you waste sympathy on them? I won't.

@ IluvDuranDuran

are you stupid or something? Do you understand anything about the epidemiology of drug use and why people do it. I dont care whether in your personal opinion drug addiction shouldnt be called a disease. Many educated and knowledgeable professionals actually do believe this to be an illness.

If it was as easy as "oh just dont do it" we would be a perfect world right now right? Corey Haim obviously had some other deep seated issues for which he needed treatment and care. Something he obviously didnt recieve fully- for whatever reason.

I am not saying he is totally innocent as there is always an element of personal responsibility in drug use and abuse, but for people coming here and being ignorant not to mention total assholes about it and saying "he deserved it" or "he knew what he was doing so whatever" is just unbelievable. How stupid and ignorant do you have to be? You dont know anything about the man, you dont know the struggles he had except for the garbage TMZ and tabloids feed you, so how can you come here and make an educated judgment about his life and how he deserved to die?

By the way, he was a big Vicodin addict according to himself. Vicodin a prescription drug. As in a fucking doctor prescribes it to you. Maybe he got it illegally, but the fact that people keep dying of LEGAL prescription drugs like this should tell you all something about the nature of death and drug use in this country.

I have a hard time with the statement that drug addiction is a "disease". Herion, meth and cocaine are illegal for a reason - they are addictive and will ruin your life. Oxycontin, Vicodin, etc are narcotics prescribed in controlled doses and are not meant to be abused, they are meant for the alleviation of severe pain WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS. Here's a novel idea - don't do it and you won't get addicted and catch this "disease"! Oh and by the way, if your family has a "history of addiction stay away from these drugs. This is the only "disease" where common sense avoids onset (other than smoking and cancer but we all figured that out in the 90s). DUH!

@ Joe Dabb Babbalucci:

Drug abuse is a disease. You are supremely ignorant to believe that people become drug addicts due to choice only and that at no point there is any kind of pathological unrest in them that would be conducive to substance abuse, that would encourage it, that would feed it and make it difficult to break free from.

Corey Haim chose how to live his life. No one put a pistol to his head and said "Take the drugs."
****************************************

Have you ever been hooked on anything?

Becuz once your hooked there doesn't need to be another person. Basically, some part of your brain says: "Take the drugs or I will force you to put a pistol to your head - choose." What you need is another person to keep you from getting to the drugs OR the pistol. If they can't get that then, yeah, most people are generally fucked for life. Luckily for you - since it irritates you so much -, that life is usually a lot shorter than average.

PS; Empathy comes between empanada and employable. Fun game! (actually - it's between a bunch of variations of empathy but those are close)

You'll find sympathy in the dictionary between shit and syphilis.

Addictions such as his are not a disease! They're labeled that so the addicts can get subsidized help for the government, Federal, state or local. Corey Haim chose his path. Cancer is a disease. Drug addictions usually are voluntary. The only exception I can see is when female addicts use drugs during the pregnancy. Then she gives birth to an addict. It's not the child's fault.

Corey Haim was just another delusional fuck-up. Perhaps his death with alert others to quit misusing drugs, prescription or illegal. I will not waste any emotions on his vapid soul. It seemed as if Corey Feldman tried his best to help Haim. I salute him for his efforts to help Haim, but Haim was beyond hope.

I hope LiLo learns from this, but she's at least as delusional as Haim was. Guess she, Amy Wino, and Dreamboat Petey will race as to who goes next.

seriously, damn.

I cant believe some of you assholes here are so smug and arrogant and say shit like "oh well he was a drug addict and didnt take responsibility for it so he had it coming". WTF? Addiction is an illness. You wouldnt tell someone with cancer or HIV or some other chronic condition to go just deal with it because of their irresponsible behavior or things they might have done to get sick. Why would you say that to someone who suffers from such a horrible disease as drug addiction?

When you use drugs like that and lose yourself like that, it is because of some serious underlying issues in your life. Once drug abuse starts and carries on for years, it takes on a life of its own - especially without intervention and serious treatment and most important without lots of TLC. It just goes on. He was struggling with many demons and obviously couldnt handle it. Yes there are people who go through similar things, but for fuck's sake, everyone's fucking different.

According to Corey Feldman on Larry Kind Life, Corey Haim was living in an apartment complex with his sick mother and was totally destitute. He didnt even own a car. He had few friends and everyone was making fun of him and wasnt giving him much credit for anything. Just like some of you asswipes. Coupled with depression, how much healthy morale do you expect someone to have to battle substance abuse?

When his mother was sick with cancer receiving chemotherapy, he went with her ot the hospital every day and took care of her. Yet no one said anything about that and no one sees that. But pointing out his drug addiction and saying he deserved it, oh people are good at that.

Seriously, shame on you assholes for not recognizing a person's overall worth, needs and accomplishments but instead judge them without knowledge about them and tell them they deserve what they got because you cannot understand the nature of their suffering and ultimately illness.

Hardly surprising given his history of drug use, sad that he let his demons get the better of him. What I am surprised about is Jeff Conaway still manages to draw breath.

My roomate in college was obsessed / the movie lost Boys

Anytime I think of The Coreys I always remember their pay telephone "hotline". It was advertised as a live call. "Call & talk to the Coreys" but it was pre-recorded messages about staying in school & off of drugs. Some friends & I called during a slumber party. Then a couple of months later Haim was arrested for possession. Sad.

River Pheoniz doesn't fall into the same "accidental overdose" category with Plato, Ledger, etc.

River was given a lethal dose of heroin from a dealer in the bathroom. He started to OD immediately
_________________________________________________

Sorry M.E. but I can't agree. The first time River felt so depressed that he attemted relief by putting a spike in his vein, he began to commit suicide. Plato, Ledger, and the countless others who have died from drug overdoses and more obvious suicides like Michael Biosil all have that in common.

OK, now I have depressed myself.

I kinda feel sad for him, he struggled most of his life with addiction. What a shame, he was only 38 and I hate when they say accidental, you know you are using and taking everything and anything, it's a possibility a huge one that you may overdose, so you should know that going in. Its no accident if you are using different drugs or even one drug in enormous amounts.

It makes me feel vaguely inhuman that I don't care about this.

I do like the cheeseball Silver Bullet and Lost Boys, though. They're old favorites of mine.

All of my friends were crazy about him, and I do mean crazy. One of them actually hit me one time because I said something bad about him. But I never could stand that gross face he made with his tongue kind of sticking out. What was that about?

I know he had problems, but who doesn't? A lot of people were molested and a lot of people have had career problems, but that doesn't excuse this kind of behavior. I can halfway understand a teenager or someone in their early 20s who doesn't fully understand what they are doing, but he was almost 40 years old and still doing this. And no, this isn't cancer. It's a behavior.

It's too bad that his friends and family couldn't help him, but maybe some of young Hollywood will take a look at this and learn something.
