Toronto Will Pay For Corey Haim's Funeral

Corey Haim didn't have much money in the bank at the time of his death, so his mother Judy asked for help to cover his funeral expenses. The city of Toronto heard her cry and has agreed to cover the costs of Corey's funeral. Judy tells Access Hollywood that a memoribilia site named Starifacts also agreed to chip in $20,000 to pay for Corey's tombstone, but she hasn't received a check from them yet. They do know Western Union is open on Sundays, right?

The Haim family is also trying to raise money for Corey's funeral by selling all of his belonging on eBay through family friend Scott Schwartz.

Corey's funeral will be held on Tuesday in his hometown of Toronto.

You know who should really pay for Corey's funeral? That troublemaking tramp Mercedes from License to Drive! She's the one who got Corey in trouble, because she dented up the hood of his father's car by getting drunk and passing out on it. Mercedes owes him!

If you die indigent here and your remaining family can't afford to bury you, they can apply to the Provincial goverment to have the cost of a basic funeral covered which gets you a minimal service, a pine box and a plaque in the ground - no headstone.

Anyway, to date, the Haim family hasn't made such an application with the City of Toronto and apparently their funeral home is paying for it.

And no, Toronto is not "frozen," we've had hardly any snow either. A backhoe will dig a deep hole in the ground - Toronto isn't the frikkin Arctic tundra you know. The only thing that doesn't go up in winter is the headstone.

It's great to read some input questioning what Corey Haim did in his life to merit a $20K tombstone. Look, he was a druggie, a bum, a nothing. His mom may want to immortalize him with some ritzy marker, but other than that, most people are questioning the logic of such action. Then again, she does not have the moolah to purchase such a stone!

Just plant him in the ground, toss a handful of salt over his remains, fill in the hole, and move on. Really, he was not much of a human being when you really look at it.

Corey Feldman does not have to contribute a dime to such a farce. I wish him well. He did his best to help an ungrateful, envious childhood pal. Haim was a lost cause. Feldman did his best while Haim was alive. Now Haim is gone. Don't waste time on money to immortalize him. Learn the lessons and go forward with life.

I thought I read that he died in the same apartment complex as Rick James. I figured it was some off Hollywood place for broken past stars. Toronto makes that a strange coincidence.

yet they're still trying to raise cash? how much money does that family need to give him the low-budget funeral he deserves?

he didn't exactly earn the Perpetual Flame option during his lifetime.

btw, if I were from Toronto, I'd be furious right now.

My parents years ago bought an estate-like storage unit where the person didn't pay the rent etc... They resell them to a third party and rarely see the contents. Anyway, for this one, my mom wanted to look. She found an urn with a lady's name on it. They couldn't locate the family so my mom kept her! Fuckin' weird! She brings her urn out at Christmas and shit. They bought a house here, when they move here I'm finding that lady's family. It's an amazing urn that was handmade, someone loved her.

OMG, that's exactly how i want to be buried.funerals are so fucking wasteful.save the mooney for the living. my uncle died last yr and he had no money and my family paid $8000 (USD5000) for a dead basic hindu funeral. either that or chop me up into bits and throw me into the sea.

Wow that's sad! So many Hollywood "friends" and romantic partners and not one could be bothered to chip in at least $1,000 to get this man buried?

Times like these is when you discover who are your real friends.

Yep, that makes perfect sense to me...Actually I have told my family CREMATION and nothing else but burial at sea will do. I said to them if it were legal I'd have you put my body deep in a forrest uncovered where it would nourish animals and plants and I'm dead serious about that. I find how we treat our dead so very wasteful.
------------------------------------------------

I'm really sickened by the whole funeral industry here. What a huge waste of money. In my parents' motherland, funerals are free. Yes, free. You can give a small donation to the graveyard keeper if you want. Basically, once a person dies, their remains are washed down, maybe dabbed with a bit of eucalyptus or camphor, completely wrapped in a clean, white shroud, and buried without a coffin into a grave. Truth be told, the body decomposes better into the ground that way and it's truly an organic funeral. You can pay someone (very minimal) to wash the body down, but there's a LOT of honor and blessings in doing it yourself for a family member. There's never any worry for cost and funerals are all the same, whether you are rich or poor. Small prayer, go home and eat what your extended family brings. Yeah, some of the dignitaries or kings may get a fancier tomb or something, but there's no pride lost at having the simplest grave possible.

$20,000 for a tombstone is scandalous. If you HAVE the money, great. But chipping in for a broke, sick, junkie? No thanks.

The whole shebang shouldn't cost more than a few thousaand, tops.

Somebody needs bill-payin' money.
-------------------------------------------

I'm glad someone had the cojones to say this. Why on earth would anyone want a $20,000 tombstone?WTF, is it made out of gold or something? Don't have money? Have a simple burial. There's nothing wrong with that. The mother sounds positively vile.

ETA: Just read that resident orcas eat fish, and transient orcas eat mammals, as a general rule, so it make sense that an orca would eat a deer if the deer was swimming, say, from island to island.
Very interesting!

Everybody needs life insurance. Yeah, nobody wants to really think about the big dirt nap, but we're all gonna take it eventually. How awful to add financial stress on top of grief. That has happened in my family in the past and it sucks. Be a grown-up and get life insurance. i'm sorry that he died (not really) but why does the state have to chip in? thousands of poor people, not even vagrants are given paupers' funerals. what good has he contributed to the world that his death should be memorialized and mourned by anyone other than his family? at this rate there's be a nationwide moment of silence, flags at half mast and huge fucking monument for lindsey's funeral.
