I think they were expecting some sort of negotiation but it failed. All the money was in private oil stock and it was not possible to actually appraise the estate without selling it all on the open market. If he loved/cared about her so much, the old geezer would have put something in writing. He was a businessman, and you don't acquire hundreds of millions (and keep it) by not having contracts (or knowing how not to have them to your advantage). It could have been something simple like, "I'm not crazy, y'all, I love my Anna and her big boobies, and I'm givin' her half, you hear? And my two sons are ingrates and will try to save I'm crazy. Well, I'm not. They can try and dispute this all they want, but I'm givin' her half." (Or, just giving her 15 to 20% of his estate.)

What Anna should have done was invested some of that money and kept the jewels that he gave her as investments. When Ellen Barkin divorced that bald-ass ugly, mean old Ron Perlman, she sold those Duchess of Windsor jewels that he'd bought for her. Anna received money and gifts (a home, clothes, jewelry, an allowance, cash gifts), and she blew it all, acting like an immature 15-year old (or a crackhead who just found $200). Instead, she surrounded her drug-ass self around yes people who took advantage of her (Howard) and pushed away folks who might have told her to get a handle on herself (and be a better mother).

Oh well...

Well, it served Anna for something alright. It gave her a comfortable life while living, undeserved fame and access to the drugs that eventually killed her...

Here's hoping that Larry Birkhead does really care for his daughter and does not regard her simply as a gold mine. I don't know why, I kind of like him and I think Dannilynn is the cutest. Things are going to make a turn for the worst if he was just interested in the money, though.

I'm waiting for the newsflash that Danilynn is up for adoption. Birkhead was as big of a fame/goldogging whore as Anna Nicole. Too bad that kid is going to have to know this when she gets older. i am not a lawyer. but i have worked w/ the court system. in their defense, i have worked with lawyers whom have BACKED away from cases (regardless of how much they could have used the 'billing hours/$$') due to ethically deciding to 'uninvolve' themselves. let's not blanket statement things.

rights 'don't get tossed out' due to lawyers stepping in. Anna pursued the mis/interpretation of those laws (manipulation, exacerbation of circumstances...i.e.: marrying a wealthy family line and pursuing this through the justice system).

not trying to raise havoc w/ ya, but all us DListed people have a say. and i respect yours while debating mine.

i'm not arguing anna nicole's estate (or her, when she was alive) should have gotten everything. i thought it was wrong that his son, lame though he seemed to be as well, should get nothing at all. i'm of the opinion that both of them should have gotten something. i wonder if the son had approached her and asked for half (rather than all) if all this sorry court battle c ould have been avoided. you see, Anna's estate ONLY has grounds to argue for legality/spousal support of the year-long marriage. you don't know if he did support her in more ways than you or i will ever know during their year marriage. they sucessfully proven that he paid her handsomely in that one year of marriage - she burned through it. period. regarding referencing the time 'before' they were married - Marshall supported that as well in many documented $$$$ ways. in other words, Marshall already endowed upon her the money she was entitled. Anna's estate was fighting for more.

i was not one of the people who said that her estate should get money because of her kid. however, the law seems to recognize that gold digger or no, wives get their husband's estate. yes, she had money while they were married and before, but i don't get why she should get nothing after his death since she was his wife at his death. i think the family should also have gotten something (though that was his choice to give them little/leave them out) more, but i just don't see why she shouldn't have gotten anything. if you are going to start measuring which spouses deserve assets after their spouse's death, she isn't the only one who would come up short, but most people don't get sued like this.
