Isla Fisher And Sacha Baron Cohen Got Married

Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen have been together 8 years, engaged for 6 and are raising a 2-year-old baby friend together. Early last week, Isla and Sacha decided they have spent enough time liking each other, so why not fuck it all up by getting married! Oh, I'm joking. Their new marriage will last as long as a plate of Vegemite! That shit doesn't decompose, right?

Woman's Day reports that Isla and Sacha got married in a small Jewish wedding in Paris last Monday. Isla and Sacha didn't feel like making it a giant extravaganza worthy of Platinum Weddings, so they only invited their close friends and family. Shortly after Isla handcuffed herself to Sacha, she wrote an e-mail to all her friends that read: “We did it – we’re married! It was the absolute best day of my life and in so many beautiful moments I missed you all so much. I thought of you as everything was happening, but Sacha and I wanted no fuss – just us!”

Unfortunately, I doubt Sacha wore any of these outfits to his wedding. What a waste. The perfect ceremony, reception and honeymoon ensembles.

Oh well. Hopefully, the guests got a plastic swan with Sacha's turd in it as a wedding memento. Congrats!

First of all, I'm Singaporean. I used the term, "oriental" not in a derogatory sense, but becos i'm sick of the american tendency to lump us all together as Asians and frankly, it was the only term i could think of at 4 am that encompasses chinese, koreans, japanese etc. " Oriental" Is most certainly not considered a derogatory term here in Singapore, where it is a chinese majority.

"It is happening the whole theory of "Latin-Americanization" of racial stratification in the USA is happening right before my eyes. You also probably think of yourself as a "Honorary White"

Secondly, I certainly do not covet the aryan body beautiful. So I don't consider myself an "honorary white" , "white" or "collective black" since these categorizations are only relevant in the American culture. And to save you further embarrassment in the future, please don't go regurgitating what you learnt in class that day to another sociology major.

In fact, maybe I should take umbrage at the cultural imperialism you displayed in assuming I was American. But then again, I DO have hope for the human race, so i'll take another bong hit and enjoy being an unemployed sociologist.

I love me some Jewish guys. Not that many here. but I'm VERY attracted to dark hair, thick eyebrows and umm...significant noses. Think Zack Braff, Zachary Quinto, Zachary Levi.

I also love the name Zachary.

OT: i don't think i'll ever convert. I'm born into Hinduism, and that's how i'll stay.

"oriental" come on, what year is it??? You know that is a really derogatory term for Asians now days & you say you were born into Hinduism most likely making you an Asian Indian, talk about color-blind racism. It is happening the whole theory of "Latin-Americanization" of racial stratification in the USA is happening right before my eyes. You also probably think of yourself as a "Honorary White"....I am sad to say but I have no hope for the human race

EXACTLY. This is what pisses me off about Jewish guys who are so obsessed with pale girls (and they're usually blond or something). They'll act all sanctimonious when they need to, but they're allowed to fuck around with whatever they find hot. Having lived in LA, I see this everywhere. Jewish pride, but not while dating. Barf.

To me, he's nothing but a selectively religious hypocrite. When it came to fucking her outside of marriage (STRONGLY condemned by strict Jews), he had no problems with her. If he wasn't such a two-faced ass, he would have thought twice before doing dirty times and knocking someone up that wasn't of his faith. Really, why take that gamble? She might convert or she might not. If she never converted, their baby wouldn't be considered a true Jew (something that would be devastating to a practicing person). Wouldn't you damn well make sure the mother of your baby was of your faith, especially when you belong to a faith that believes that the religion is passed matrilineally?

buddhistgirl69's picture

I have to add my 2 cents having dated Jewish men... the religion of the child comes through the mother in the Jewish faith. So, if he was jewish, she catholic the baby would be unable to be bar mitvahed/ bossmitzvahed under the Jewish faith. I had a long relationship with a nice Jewish boy with a wicked tennis game but we could not get the religion thing agreed on.He married a nice Jewish girl and all the families were happy. I dated a crazy british punk in a band and I was happy.

He is, apparently, very religious in some ways. He supposedly won't use the phone on a Saturday, or some crap like that, because it is the Sabbath...(That's what I heard anyhow). He has a Master's Degree and his brother is a doctor and one of the top autism researchers in the world...

She's cute. Best of luck to them...

Good for you and your husband :)
I come from a catholic family, I understand that the ceremonial stuff is an important part of religion but it always bothered me how some of my relatives care more for some traditions than the spirituality

CholaMom's picture

hey Kanderso... I stand corrected. However, I maintain my position that Isla's a big meh. Strictly my opinion of course. I don't like it when I constantly get two actresses confused.

As far as converting to Judaism to get married, I can kinda understand it from a "do anything for love" perspective, but can't say I endorse it. I'm Catholic myself, and I know loads of people who convert to Catholicism just so they can get married in the church -- and I think it's kinda stupid. If your core faith is so easily shaken because you fell in love with some guy, maybe it's not that strong to begin with. And how easily could it be changed around again? It's not like Isla woke up one day and saw a vision of Moses standing before her telling her to become a Jew... she just wants to marry her baby daddy. Doesn't seem to me to be a good reason to change your entire faith.

Maybe she'll be Scientologist next!

@Dr. Funk: I am sure there are thousands of Asian jews. I was just stating I have never met one personally.

@Coco: Israeli. OMG. You have to admire them but they are probably the most difficult group of people to deal with. I have met hundreds of them. We have a large community of Israelis here.

@Hekki: Good luck to her. It is not easy.

@Hekki: Why is the Japanese women converting? For herself or for a guy? I have never met an Asian Jew before.

::::::::::::::::::::::

There's a significant number of Asian Jews out west.(mostly Koreans & Filipinos ) Usually as a result of marrying into the Ashkenazim or their more secular offspring.West Coast Asian babes tend towards Europhilia and usually meet their husbands on campus @ UCLA...or being the fetish object of some movie industry dork.

I bet it took them so long, because she was converting. Remember, being Jewish is on the maternal line. Your mother must be Jewish for you to be a Jew. As far as being religious goes, I hear the converted Jews are the worst ones.

My boyfriends mother is a Iranian Jew and his father was Muslim. She got kicked out of her family for marrying him and they came to the U.S. They were also Shah supporters, so that was a double whammy. Religion can be a big deal breaker for so many, which is a shame.

Conversion is as personal to an individual as the religion itself. Maybe Isla likes the traditions that go with her man and it's worth the work to belong.

I liked SBC better when he was on TV and lesser known.

personally, i would convert to just about anything, to marry that tall dark and handsome man. i think he is the handsomest man in movies today. nolo contendre. and i believe isla was part of our national consciousness before amy adams was.

I really don't get the whole Isla Fisher thing. She looks like a cheaper version of Amy Adams. She had a lead in ONE American picture that tanked at the box office due to bad timing (release date right after the stock market crash... nicely done). Big deal. I truly don't get it.

What? Oh no, Isla is awesome! She was the crazy sister in Wedding Crashers; was a lead in Definately, Maybe with Ryan Reynolds; she was in The Lookout, which was an awesome movie.

I used to always get her confused with Amy Adams (who I also adore) but she is great in her own right. And she is freaking ADORABLE.

Keri Russell, Amy Adams, and Isla are about the cutest women in the universe, IMO.

On the subject of Jewish orthodoxy, I doubt SBC gives a damn -- otherwise, he couldn't pull all those outrageous stunts. So, if she converted, that was more for form's sake and to appease the in-laws.

It is important to note that Judaism encompasses both religion and traditions, and even non-religious Jews could be attached to the latter.

@Coco: They could just raise the baby Jewish, however none of his relatives would consider it a Jewish baby. His parents are not only Jewish, they are ORTHODOX. Plus they are English. European Jews tend to be more religious as a whole than American Jews (excepts for American Hassidics, etc.)

My former fiance is a French Sephardic Jew. His family was religious. It was a total nightmare. I don't envy you. But if your fiance doesn't care, why should you? Are his parents religious? Are they nice, or assholes?

We are already married, so that part is done!
But I know as soon as I get pregnant it's gonna be piles of pressure + guilt on us.
First of all my in laws are Israeli, so it's pretty intense. But they're definitely not orthodox, they're just into their Jewishness, especially my mother in law. They are not crazy observant, they basically make their own rules, as a lot of people do. My husband likes to call it "mock religious".
Like they would want me to convert, but don't give a shit whether I believe in it or not.
They're not assholes, they're just difficult, and very different from my family. I moved from Europe to USA a year ago and it's sometimes hard to be without my folks and not really feeling like I have a family here. At least I have a great relationship with the grandparents, they're my favorites!

Also, once you have kids things change. I don't care what anyone says. You can forget all your religion and party and sin like crazy when you are single, but I can't TELL you the number of heathens I know who go right back to their religion/places of worship when they have kids.

Miami's picture

@Coco: You should not convert. Judaism is one of the only religions that doesn't recruit people. If you convert they want you to do it, because you want tolead a Jewish life. The rabbis will not convert you for marriage purposes (I know for a fact). I don't know how Isla did it as she and he are famous. The orthodox rabbis probably took forever with the conversion to be sure she was really doing it for "her". A proper orthodox conversion takes over a year. You have to do a lot. It's a huge pain in the arse.

I know a Japanese girl who is converting to Orthodox Judaism. She's learning how to keep a kosher kitchen and shit.

Like Coconut, I am an atheist and cannot imagine converting to any religion. But then again, I'm sending my kids to a Catholic school, so I am a hypocrite. Although, to be fair, when my daughter asks me a question like "When we die, do we really go to heaven?" I tell her what the various religions believe, and that I don't know for sure WHAT happens. Kids can smell lies and hypocrisy from a mile away.

In the Jewish religion if Isla didn't convert, her baby would not be considered Jewish. I know it is archaic but it is what it is. His family is Orthodox and they would not have accepted her otherwise. It's easy to talk shit when you aren't in the situation. None of us can say with 100% certainty that we would not convert for Sasha.

The rules are what they are. But it's definitely archaic that she has to convert in order for her baby to be Jewish. Why can't they raise the baby Jewish if they want to and call it a day?

I'm in a similar situation, I know I'm gonna get shit from my in laws if we have kids, they're gonna put pressure on me to convert, but we're not giving in. I was raised an atheist, and I'm never giving that up, no matter how much I love my husband.
That would be betraying who I am.
