We're Off To See RDJ?
Hollywood is currently trying to make a Wizard of Oz prequel happen, and apparently Robert Downey Jr. is in talks to play the title role. File this under: "Hold me and tell me how to feel about this, because I just don't know...."
The Los Angeles Times reports that screenwriter Mitchell Kapner has finished a screenplay based on several L. Frank Baum. The script follows a young Wizard as he comes to Oz from Kansas to do wizard shit. Or something. Apparently, the Wizard in the prequel is darker and more complex, which is why producers think Robert Downey Jr. is perfect for the role. Disney is also throwing around Sam Mendes' name as a possible director.
You know, I'm okay with this as long as the new Wizard of Oz syncs up perfectly with a Pink Floyd album. I'll also be extra okay with this if Snooki and Gary Coleman play members of the Lollipop Guild. They need the work.

nah. no. no, no and no. RD jr. is not made for any part in Wiz (loved it - not loving RWD complexity in it).
RDJr is made for a Pirates sequel; a 5th Element sequel; a Requiem for a Dream sequel; a Eternal Sunshine sequel....but NOT an Oz prequel.

This remake smells of desperation from Hollywood. Unless they use the story line as a guide to something totally different as many have suggested. But I have serious doubts on that because Hollywood is full of desperate whores.

Baum wrote 15 OZ books. Other authors picked up the storyline and wrote many, many other tales about Oz. The subsequent books Baum wrote after the first Oz are really weird and very trippy. They're full of bizarre creatures, gender-bending, and lots of surrealism. By the way, there never were any Ruby Slippers. The original shoes were silver and fell off Dorothy's feet into the Deadly Desert on her flight home. MGM made them red since that color photographed better in Technicolor.

Actually, there are several Oz books by L. Frank Baum. I read at least one when I was a kid. Trippy stuff. They should make some movies of those.
