A Funeral Fit For A Punk King
This is the kind of funeral every goth and punk dreams of when they cuddle into their totally ironic Disney Princess sheets at night. British punk legend Malcolm McClaren's funeral procession went through London today and it was an extravagant spectacle. You wouldn't expect anything less.
Malcolm's graffitied coffin (Hot Topic BETTER NOT make a purse version of it) was carried in a carriage pulled by some fancy goth horses. The procession also included a bus filled with zombie punks. Malcolm's ex-partner Vivienne Westwood, Pam Hogg, Adam Ant and Bobby Gillepsie all came out to mourn their friend.
Malcolm's family issued this statement shortly before his funeral:
"In celebration of Malcolm's life we are asking people to observe a MINUTE OF MAYHEM at midday on 22nd April. Put on your favourite records and let it RIP!"
And if your "favorite record" includes anything by Ke$ha or Justin Beiber, RIP it up and throw it in your desktop trash immediately. Then excuse yourself from the room and go eat your sandwich in the bathroom by yourself. That's what Malcolm would've wanted.

Malcolm was a money grabbing cunt who rose to fame by claiming other peoples original ideas as his own and making a big noise about it. He was basically in marketing.
I'll burn that bridge when I come to it....
Whoever planned this spectacle can certainly plan mine too! I am on the fence about Malcolm because he kind of tried to ruin the Sex Pistols, my all time favorite 70's band... but he was definitely on the scene back then. And by the way, John " Lydon" not rotten anymore, was in Seattle for a PIL concert the other night, and he was fab!

Sadness indeed. I was in elementary school when Malcolm was turning rock music upside down--AND listening to the Bee Gees--but still, an icon has definitely passed.

Mcnightmare- that is Bobby Gillespie from Primal Scream (just one of the many bands that are huge elsewhere but the U.S.) And to those of you who must comment on how people look old and decrepit it's because they are old, and so fucking what? I was lucky enough to be out and about on my lunch break when I came out of the tube station in Kentish town and saw the procession going past - made me late back to the office, but fuck it! Horse drawn hearse and the music pumping out from the punked up double decker bus was awesome! I'm not a punk rocker but MM also helped introduce Hip Hop to the UK, so Malcolm McClaren, I solute you! RIP.

I met Malcolm MacClaren when he came to my college, FIT in NYC for a symposium on fashion and music. I was covering it when I was a freshman so this dates back 1989 or so. Wow, 20 years ago! I didn't even know he passed on recently. RIP.

I have loved Adam Ant forever...but it breaks my heart to see him looking like an under-medicated nut. While he physically looks good for his age, the layering of clothes along with all the rest of the drag tells me he's completely out of his head.
