I've lost all respect for Mel based on those tapes because of the belittling, dehumanizing way he talks to Oksana. It speaks volumes about who he REALLY is. I think Oksana's going to have a lot to say when she can. A lot of women don't realize when they're drifting into an abusive relationship and I think when she tells her full story it'll be an eye-opener for a lot of people.

One thing that really stands out to me is, his feelings for Oksana aside, he expresses not an ounce of remorse or regret for putting his baby at risk.
Some very insightful posts the last few days, enjoyed them all especially from TheBreakdown, KidL, Irish Fury to name a few.

You know what, Oksana, obviously has been around the block and already has a 12 year old son. It sounds like she left her life to be with Mel and went broke. The way Mel talks to her is beyond frightening...his inside is so bitter and horrendous that he has no business being in a relationship. He sounds like he hates himself, so loving someone else is impossible. I'm glad Oksana recorded the tapes and is standing up for herself. I'm new around here so I've not said much, but I have a close family member who is EXACTLY like Gibson, just without the fame and money, so I feel that I have to speak up...

Wall of text incoming!

My uncle has been married at least 10 times, however he NEVER hits these women before marrying them. With his first wife he actually waited until after their first child was born, so I have to wonder if perhaps this is also Gibson's trigger. Perhaps his crazy came out full-force after Oksana had the baby.

After 50 years of being an abuser, my uncle has finally been diagnosed as a schizophrenic and malignant narcissist, and is on court-ordered meds with periodic psych evals also required. Otherwise he faces jail time.

Do you know what it took, for a man who began beating up little girls at age 8, who beat up his own mother and threatened his little sister, who has beaten every wife, every child to ever share a roof with him, to FINALLY be brought under control?

It took an Oksana.

My uncle usually goes for women in need, women who are trying to get away from something, or who are in trouble and are easily charmed by sweet words and false promises, but one time, he picked the wrong woman. She broke things off with him - wouldn't take his calls, etc. - and the crazy erupted. He showed up at her house in the middle of the night and when she wouldn't open the door, he kicked it in. He came at her and somehow she got away and dialed 911. NO ONE ELSE had ever done that to him. A lot of people knew my uncle was crazy, but people were shocked to discover how violent and unpredictable he was.

My uncle is handsome, intelligent, charming, and is always in excellent physical shape. Women talk about his powerful aura and his magnetism. I'm sure Mel Gibson has the same type of allure. I'm sure he's gotten away with this shit before, too; had it covered up by lawyers and gag orders and hush money.

This time, he just fucked with the wrong bitch.

I think he has always been like this. The only difference is that it has grown as his power in Hollywood has grown. Over the last ten years, he has made enough money behind the lens to be a major player in Hollywood. Moreso than Tom Hanks or Tom Cruise, who both make millions behind the camera too, but not nearly as much as Mel Gibson has made, since he financed his own films, and thus raped all the revenue on return.

But TC AND TH are not epic assholes. Even if you say Tom Cruise is crazy for being a Scientologist, at least his craziness is not dangerously lashed out at other people to the point where they fear for their lives.

And there are millions of women that put up with this kind of abuse every day for years because they are not strong enough or have been trained to NOT be strong enough to leave their situation..for whatever reasons.

If you listen to those tapes, you hear a man using every trick in the book to try to make her think she is inadequate of better, incapable of succeeding without him, and altogether frightened that someone would DARE leave him out in the cold.

His children have my sympathy, because I would never want to associate with anyone that vile.

I kinda see it like this...they were both being opportunistic - sometimes that works and sometimes it's totally disastrous. Cuz you drive yourself crazy trying to put up with this person you don't REALLY care for...except for what they offer on a basic level. It's just a bad idea. And Mel, with his huge family and his age and his drinking...so bad. It's totally possible he just drove himself around the bend.

And let's give Mel this. Maybe his experiences did, in fact, teach him to be an opened-minded person - but how many of his huge number of family members do you think talk like that every day? How many when he was a kid, growing up? Habits. Imprints. The man DID make four movies, at least, with Danny Glover right? You think over all that time more of this would have emerged.

And the drink, man. I've seen more old men go crazy with drink than I care to think about. It always brings out characteristics you wouldn't necessarily expect.

OG (lol) was in a relationship with Dalton for 10 years without marrying. Wouldn't she have left after 2 or 3 years w/o a ring? Also, what about Robin? She stayed with Mel for 30 years and brought MULTIPLE children into that mess. She may have been a wife, but she had just as many dollar signs floating in front of her eyes as Oksana. I have know alcoholics and people who were bi-polar, and they did not turn into racists when they were drunk or having a manic episode, respectively.

Why do some automatically assume he must be mentally ill? By that reasoning, all members of the KKK must be mentally ill, too.

A few have raised the question about Mel being possibly bipolar, needing lithium, etc....I dk if he is, but as someone who is in the mental health field, I reeeeally don't like the trend of calling people who act like out of control, rage-filled assholes bipolar. That disorder does not create racists, homophobes, misogynists or abusers...period. Mel obviously has alcohol problems and psychiatric/anger issues BUT his belief systems (which are on full display here) are his alone.

This chick is manipulative for sure, BUT MEL is out of control. If he had his temper in check, and wasn't a racist/abuser he could have taken this baby and raised it on his own, he has enough money. He's a domestic abuser for sure, and really needs help. I wonder how he grew up, it usually has a lot to do with it. I speak from a little experience. I've gone into rages before on my lovers, but I've learned how to control it. It takes a lot of time, and dedication to stop the cycle of abuse. It has not been an easy road, but worth the fight to stop abusing people.

Thanks for all the info on domestic violence everyone, very interesting. I actually screened women for DV in a hospital setting before. A couple of times after finishing a screening form the number of things they answered "yes" to indicated that they were likely victims of DV but when I'd ask about it they'd be in denial. Some right out knew they were being abused but adamantly said they didn't want any intervention. There was even a case where a child came in because the father had gotten so deep into the domestic violence that he'd deal with the mother AND the child if it got in the way (the child was a toddler...). Disturbing. I really hope Mel didn't punch her teeth out...not that he should talk to her like that either but it seems like he would talk to anyone in that manner when he's having his rage-filled moments

I think she probably is a gold-digger, too, but I wanted to clarify something you said.

She was actually living at a house that OWNED, but it was not his primary residence. He was not living there. In the tapes, he actually says she should be living with him and she says she left.

She may have her faults, but she did leave him.

Also, where did you get the info about her not wanting to sign a pre-nup for Dalton? He is British and lives in the UK. The UK does not recognise pre-nups. You can get agreements drawn up which depending on the judge may be used in your favour if you ever divorce and want a certain division of property and assets, but the courts do not recognise them like they do in the US.

Why do I think this woman was a gold digger? She dropped her job and let him take care of her, had a baby right away, didn't want to have a prenup with him or with Timothy Dalton when marriage was on the table, there are claims that she tried to extort him for money for these tapes before putting them out for the public to hear (jury is still out on this one), she has a child aside from the one she had with Gibson and continued to live in Gibson's house even while these recordings were going on (and thus, the abuse was still going on) instead of getting out of there, getting a job, and truly protecting her children. Looking to get a restraining order: great move. Looking to get a restraining order and publishing things that will make the person you're trying to get a restraining order against even more pissed: not so great move.
