It's a stupid claim anyway -- you don't have to belong to a denomination to count as a Christian. She's a Christian if she believes the basic tenets, not just if she goes to church on Sundays. So this whole stupid announcement is just her trying to get attention.

Say, doesn't she have a book coming out soon? Nothing like a little controversy to drum up sales.

As a Roman Catholic, I can say I don't agree with many of the tenants and canon of the Church, but that doesn't mean I don't have faith nor does it mean I don't follow the basic tenants of the Church.

I believe in individual rights regardless of differences.
I believe in the right of a woman to choose.
I believe in the right to divorce.
I believe that there is a higher power that loves us and asks us to love each other. And while the church may not approve of certain things, all I expect people to do is to act right and stop being hypocrites (easier said than done- just ask Perez Hilton ~ZING!~ *LOL*)

And yes, I think Ann has a book coming out and she's gone back to the vampire genre so she's gotta get some press. ~yawn~ You don't have to bash a faith to make your point.

That Ann Rice comment seems awfully small-minded. There are entire Christian denominations that are socially liberal, pro-choice, all that. It sounds like she got mad at someone or some church and then went out and made a shitty comment.

No matter what gushy claims she made, she obviously didn't take her religious conversion seriously if it didn't last long. It's like these Kabbalah celebs who dabble in it for a couple years then just sorta wander off.

And somehow I don't think it's in the spirit of Christ to be so completely nasty about such a vast number of people because of a few bad apples (like those psychos who picketed Comic-Con). The fact that she is doing that just shows that she was never really devout to start with, and certainly she isn't the sort of person you should be congratulating. Basiclaly, she's a huge bitch - but people on amazon knew that already, if you saw her infamous rant.

And I don't buy her claims that she was having doubts for the past three years. If she had, she wouldn't have published a gushing book about her religious life just TWO years ago. Probably a dumbass said something recently that pissed her off and suddenly she's taking this big stand because of it.

I usually have respect for Ann Rice, but she didn't have to condemn Christianity in such a way. If she moved away from a faith and a God who has embraced her, then fine. She is forgiven.

But what I find interesting is that everyone bashes Christianity and says NOTHING about Islam and the laws against homosexuality and the murder of gays and lesbians in Islamic countries. Shi'ia Law is very specific about the "sin" of homosexuality and specific about what happens to those who are found out to be gay. And as the Islamic world grows larger and the religion grows by leaps and bound (fastest growing religion in the world right now), gays won't have just Christians to worry about.

It is easy to bash Christians and Christianity. Especially when no one is buying your books anymore. Rice is going back to vampire writing after seeing the success of Charlaine Harris, JR Ward and other paranormal novelists.

Very disappointed to hear that from Anne Rice; guess no one has been buying her books in a while. She should know better than to conflate one billion Christians of varying sects into one hateful anti-gay/science/birth control movement. That's like saying all Muslims are terrorists. Our senior pastor only had daughters, for one thing. When he reads from the bible he says "he/she" rather than just "he". He in an interracial marriage himself and although he doesn't agree with homosexuality, he doesn't preach against it because as a Christian, he has been taught to love everyone. He also doesn't agree with abortion but he knows it can be necessary and he would never turn his back on someone who has had one. All in all, I'd say Anne Rice needs to broaden her horizons. We are not a small church and have ministries in several states and abroad. Not all Christians are bible-thumping hypocrites. :-)
