I agree with both O'Reilly AND Aniston. I think it's best for society when the "norm" is 2 married parents. But, for women who can afford it - emotionally, mentally and financially - it's really lovely that we have the option to have a child on our own. I have zero doubt that Meg Ryan, Sandy Bullock and Sheryl Crow's kids are infinitely better off with them than rotting in some orphanage. And if Aniston does go to a sperm bank... I bet her kid will turn out better than many from 2-parent families in Hollywood.

Ya, I don't get why people rag on her because she hasn't settled for some schlub and popped out a few kids already. An awesome woman once said that sometimes women wear their struggles on their sleeve like a badge of honour, "hey, I left my abusive husband and struggled with my babies in poverty, so I'm strong". It's good to overcome that stuff and they ARE strong, but she said people don't recognize that there's a lot of strength in making wise choices to avoid those kinds of situations in the first place. I don't see why she should pop out a kid just to show people she's over the Pittster. Excellent reason to bring a child into the world.

This is one of those things where there is no right answer. I know fantastic single parents who turned out awesome kids. I know shitty single parents who fucked up their kids. Same goes for any combo or situation you can think of. Some parents are good, some aren't. Some kids turn out fine from awful situations, some are fucked up no matter how great the parents are.

Well, that's not entirely true. She had an Oscar, some well-rated movies under her belt (like Gia), she was fresh out of the Lara Croft movies and was in the news for adopting Maddox without Billy Bob (being herself one of those single moms Jennifer spoke in defense) and for her humanitarian work. True, the scandal was very titillating for the tabloid crowd, but my guess is that there would be almost as much tabloid interest if Brad was single, seeing as they were both A-list and pretty.

Yet, it's also not true that Aniston was an unknown before Brad came along. She was making movies before Friends, admittedly not very good movies but she was out there, and then, well, FRIENDS.

What all these survivors don't understand is that it takes alot of hard work and effort not to do this shit in the first place.

Kerfuffles - AMEN to the "creating your own drama" theory. Good for you for not allowing yourself to be guilt-tripped. My sister is pregnant. She's 20, unemployed, broke up with the unemployed baby-daddy before the second trimester ( she'd only known him for 2 months when she got pregnant). We tried for months to get her on whatever form of birth control she wanted, which my parents would have paid for. We all told her to stay away from this loser guy. Now, she's going on and on about how we all have to help her because "It's NOT MY FAULT!". The family wants her to place the baby with a nice adoptive family, because my parents are unable to support both her and a baby at this age and my sister is totally mentally unfit and cannot/has never been left alone with a child. She says if we do not financially support her and help (AKA do everything for her) we are condemning her to a life of HELL. She also threatened to hurt any children my husband and I have if we don't do everything possible (AKA everything) to keep her baby but she won't let us adopt the baby. Creates her own drama at every turn and still cries to everyone that she's the victim.

If we're talking about any aspect of parenting, she goes "Well, I don't HAVE a husband to help with that" like it's somehow not her fault.

Until very recently, she has made Mr. Hekki install and un-install the carseat because she "doesn't know HOW".

A pediatrician was telling us that "lots of" single-by-choice moms don't realize what they're getting into and they are overwhelmed and regretful.

I agree with Jen. It does not take two to raise a child. One person can make a difference in any child's life.
All the arguments I've heard, such as having that extra set of hands, support, etc. are from a parenting perspective, not the child's. We are talking about the child's well-being right? Not how EASY it should be for a parent.
Major plus for single parents is that they don't have battles over how to raise their child. Nobody to argue with over discipline techniques, etc.
...and I'd love for more people like Jen to adopt children. What a blessing it would be, to be adopted into someone like Jen's home. You're an idiot if you think they'd be better off waiting in an orphanage than being adopted by a single parent. I'm sure the lovely Meg Ryan is raising Daisy very well on her own.

I know, I know. She can't act, she looks like she's still hung up on Brad, and her chin's gonna be Hot Slut of the Day someday.

Mhm, I think that the "triangle" is a well considered media-machine used by all of them. Everytime either one of them has a new movie coming out it will start all over again. Though it has been quite quiet for a few months. Aniston has her LOLavie and Anschelina her tomboy kid. But as soon as the first magic is worn off, they will start again, at least i bet so.

Everytime my mother complains about OMG HOW HARD it was to raise me and my siblings when we were young I remind her that she was the one who couldn't operate a condom (several of them, actually) when she was fucking 30 and chose a manchild who was 11 years her junior, didn't have a job and was still in college and LIVING WITH MOM to have a bajillion children with, before any of them had any economical stability. She was a huge star in her own right. It was never my show but Friends was huge back then. Nah she probably would be on a TV show now but seriously, why do people take it so bad she got the guy back then? I have yet to see a movie by her but she was good as Rachel in Friends. She certainly wasn't a talentless hag who got lucky. Yes she had good writers but let's not pretend she couldn't act for shit.

Procreation remains a biological imperative over social convention. I was a single parent because that is what happened and I wouldn't trade the kid or the experience for anything (although I like crying at the bottom of a hot shower in the morning). Life is full of surprises but passing on your genes is what it is all about. Even those who do not have their own offspring are in the game when they help family and friends who do.

I am getting bored of her being labelled a spinster because she is 42 and not remarried or had babies. Like that is the sole purpose in a woman's life. Yes it is to the overweight soccer mums who post on Just Jared I am sure but really, it isn't to a lot of women. I am married myself and want kids, but I would never look down on someone who is single and either chose not to have kids or wasn't in the right situation.
