Whether true or not, this is my favorite excerpt from this mess of a tell-all:

She depended on the professional discretion of men not to boast they had just serviced Scarlett O'Hara."
Don't you wish you lived in the days where you could drive up to Scotty's and buy a man whore with a nephrite cigarette case and a ruby bracelet off your own wrist? Nowadays, you have to buy a piece in the back alley of a Sunoco with a wad of wet tens and half of a meth rock.

I have read the orginal "Hollywood Babylon" by Kenneth Anger, Hollywood Babylon I & II by Darwin Porter. All of these books spread "the truth" about what was really going on in Hollywood from the 1920's til now. Currently I am reading his book on Howard Hughes. I am surprised that the studios were able to get any films completed with all of the drug use, abuse, and f*cking going on.

I think I read on Wiki that her mental illness was so bad later in her life that she had to have electroshock therapy regularly, and of course it was total One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (probably worse) back then.
No bipolar pills invented yet, not even lithium.
It seems she really suffered.
I forget how she died, but I don't think it was suicide.

Admittedly, I know jack shit about old Hollywood (or even modern day) and I don't doubt that many famous people from now and then were promiscuous, but I think a lot of it is imagined because they were mysterious back then and filtered nowadays.

The Hollywood Babylon books have great photos but they are totally inaccurate.The same was said about David Niven's books EXCEPT for the chapters which fictionalized one of Vivien Leigh's more extreme manic episodes-Niven almost went mad with her. That poor woman was manic-depressive,went onstage with Olivier with visible burns from electroshock therapy,and had tuberculosis. It sounds like the new bio will try to make a truly tragic life into something light and glamorous. Viv was treated like a experiment by the psychiatric professionals. Olivier was really just a pig.
