CSGGG, ughs! Lmao, i'm checking the time you wrote your post and that's about the time bboy came over for dinner out today, Sunday (we had a major skirmish on Friday night late at the goddamn karaoke bar (don't fking ask ohgod; okay maybe i'll tell you about it when i can laugh about it), and I ultimately drunk-posted on Friday at around near midnight lol *embarassed*). Then of course the 'relationship depression' hit all day Saturday and didn't even check to see what you horz were up to at all on Saturday damn. Fine now.

Miss ya girl. How's the promotion and work? This heatwave has let up so maybe our frizzies and bloatedness will damn subside now! (*still dies laughing at that 'wits end' TMI we both had the other day on OP at different times lol!).

It is almost midnight now, Sunday night. I'm heading off to sleep and thought I'd check here for ya. {{{hugs, pinchesz}}} *sprinckles frizz-ease and water pills around thread llololol*

This is true. I don't know why I just stopped getting them, but I miss them.

Your definition is pretty fair, I think. I really did enjoy the first two installments of The Mummy, however.

As for Titanic, I haven't seen that movie in a long time but I do think I remember the drunk guy. However, I had no recollection of what happened to him in the movie. As tragic as the event really was, the movie didn't make me very sad because for the most part, the movie was just a sappy love story. I know that the movie industry saw this from a marketing angle and that romanticizing the story would attract more people and make more money, it might've caught me better. I grew bored of the Jack and Rose romance after the car scene, and even that was pushing it. I just thought it'd be cool if they focused on more than on just those two.

I can definitely see why that could do that to someone who has knowledge of an event.

By getting historical facts deliberately mixed up, do you mean comedies? Historical satire and the like? Because I like those too.

The Greeks and the Chinese were brilliant, and it just amazes me that systems, ideas, and philosophies that were developed so long ago are still very relevant to society. It's what connects modern life to the ancients, and that's the beauty of it.

No one ever cancels a subscription to National Geographic unless they become homeless or die.
My definition of a great historical film is one which is flawlessly researched,or one which is so engaging that I forget to play Spot the Anachronism.
I sat through the James Cameron version of the RMS Titanic disaster thinking "This is right, that detail is wrong,Billy Zane is hot, wrong again,Kathy Bates is great, what the fuck was that?,SINK GOD DAMNIT,SINK." Several little girls in the audience were pissed when I started giggling at odd moments. Towards the end, that boring couple watches a man in chef's whites swigging from a hip flask. He's calmly clinging to the railing, waiting for the right moment to jump. 1,500 people dying on the last great luxury liner isn't funny, but the reaction shot is. The baker really existed. He spent the better part of 3 hours drinking brandy, went down with the ship, and dog-paddled off to a nearby lifeboat without getting his head wet.
See what being a Titanic buff can do to a woman?
The other form of historical film I like is the sort that gets the facts wrong deliberately.
As for the "unreality" of the past...the Ancient Greeks and the Chinese dynasties figured things out. There's a reason why The Imaginative Cokehead known as Freud relied on the Greek dramatists to name his theories.

That is true. I think it may have been The Discovery Channel that got me hooked initially, but I did have a subscription to National Geographic as a child. I still love looking at them, I'm going to subscribe to it again.

It's a very strange feeling reminiscing about these cultures you've learned about, but I feel as though those cultures were so very surreal, even reminding myself how different the world was thousands of years ago. I think a lot of these civilizations seem almost imaginary. Although not Utopian, they seem fantastical.

Amen with watching movies based on history as a setback. Even though I know the movie is a fiction and I actually loved The Mummy, I can't help but notice how inaccurate it is. It seemed as though they drew many important and/or well-known Ancient Egyptians from different periods and pulled them in together somehow! I'm surprised they didn't toss Cleopatra into it somehow.

You're welcome. An interest in history, ancient philosophy and civilizations
is best cultivated when young. National Geographic has done that for generations-my mother gave me a subscription to their children's magazine when I was six. One of the downsides of a lifelong fascination with history is that it makes the present seem almost unreal,as if one were looking through the wrong end of the telescope. Another downside is that it is difficult to turn the critical faculties/memory off when watching a historical film. I loved it in _Gladiator_ when whatshisname told the emperor's sister: "I was with your father at Vindobona".
My reaction:"Dude! That was the Roman name for Vienna!"
My husband is a patient man.

You didn't forget that a Virgin-Whore is a virgin with a raunchy streak,or a dirty mind,so here are two Virgin-Whore anthems from my salad days.

Acotw: Thank you very much. :)

My fascination with the Ancient Egyptians began whenever I was about seven years old and it's never stopped since then. I'm also a huge fan of history, especially the mythology of many cultures. I'm part Greek and my mother is also a diehard about Greek mythology. I think it's pretty neat myself.

Journalism sounds ideal for you,as does writing for National Geographic. Once,I joked to a British acquaintance that it's against the law in the US to throw away an issue of NG,and she believed me. Well,no one ever gets bored reading it,right? Your interest in Egyptology is cool-the schools I went to taught Ancient Civilizations starting in 5th grade. I'm still fascinated by Ancient Greece. That's part of the reason why A citizen of the world is my screen name.

Cappy my sweetie - thanks so much for your kind words in Thursdays OP - I admit I dove into the pity pool on Thursday night and you REALLY made me feel better, thanks for that. Things are a little messed up right now - the work life is going great, but the love life is a desert. There's a possibility on the horizon, but I've been so burned I'm scared to even remotely pursue it. I'm not kidding, the idea of even trying to carry on a conversation with someone is so terrifying, I can't even contemplate it. And what sucks is I was never like this...shit, if you told me even a year ago that I'd allow myself to become so damaged by another person, I'd have punched you. Now I'm in shock at what I've allowed myself to become. I realize I have to shake myself out of this now, or I'm going to be some kind of emotional cripple. Anyhow, I really appreciate all your observations - you always make me laugh.

Puppy killer girl found in Bosnia. The story is everywhere.

Velimir Ivanisevic from the group said he received an email that allegedly identifies her as a teenager from the central Bosnian town of Bugojno.

'We cannot say with 100 per cent certainty that this is true, but we received some other information which leads us to believe that it is,' Ivanisevic said.

Bosnian law requires anyone who kills or injures an animal to pay a fine ranging from €15 to €5,000 (£12 to £4,150) .

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) offered a €1,500 (£1,300) reward earlier this week to help catch the young woman in the film

The video has prompted outrage among internet groups of animal lovers

The 44-second video shows a blonde girl in a red sweatshirt casually tossing the squealing black-and-white puppies into the river one by one.

The video has been removed from YouTube but niot before it was embedded on a number of other sites.

Several Facebook pages were created dedicated to exposing the girl, who appears to be a teenager.

Users of the image forum 4chan, who recently identified a British woman who dumped a cat into a wheelie bin, have vowed to unmask her.

They had already tracked down bank worker Mary Bale after CCTV of her dumping a cat in a rubbish bin was published online.

The 45-year-old received death threats and has been interviewed by the RSPCA but no decision on criminal proceedings have been made and she has not been arrested.
