Tell Me It's Not True!!!
The National Enquirer doesn't only publish stories that make polygraph machines scribble out "Are you serious?". They sometimes get things right, which is why this story about Aretha Franklin's health is making me punch and hug at the air at the same time. When Queen Aretha underwent surgery for a mysterious condition, many (including yours truly) figured she just got her stomach pinched and her magnificent chichis shrunk down to the size of a baby elephant.
But The National Enquirer (via PopCrunch) claims they know the real reason and it's serious. They are saying that Aretha has been diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer and given a 5-10% of survival. There aren't enough Os available for me to properly express the NOOOOOO! that is swirling around my heart.
Aretha's rep has yet to confirm or deny this, so there's some hope that The National Enquirer is just saying this to make sure their name is on the list at the VIP entrance in HELL. Yes, they want to feel all special and shit as they wave to us in the back of the line.
UPDATE: One of Aretha's family members told MyFox Detroit that she does have cancer. The relative said that Aretha is doing okay, but everything is still really concerned. The family member didn't say what type of cancer Aretha was diagnosed with. No word from Aretha's rep yet.
(Thanks Jess)

My mom's caregiver had this cancer. Things did not go well for her. :(
I'll always remember Spanish Harlem as the first Aretha song I ever heard.
Yeah.....Jobs didn't have the "typical" killer stuff.
This really sucks!! Cancer takes away so many people..damn what is up with the scientists? When will they figure this shit out?? I think A lot of this is due to the shit food we eat. It cost an arm, and a leg to eat healthy, esp in L.A. I try to do the alternative to Whole Foods, and go to Fresh and Easy, it's a little easier on the pocket book. But there are some people who really don't seem to care what they put in their body. I know this lady (security guard) who works at my nieces high school. She is always at the basketball games eating all the fast food crap they sell, chips, pizza, hot dogs, candy, soda, you name it she's eating it. And then I sometimes see here with this big bag of fried pig skin swimming in some nasty processed hot sauce. This lady is 4 foot, and as big as a house. The chances of her getting some nasty shit cancer are pretty damn high.

NO ONE who has had a Whipple survives.
After that shit storm, she needed radiation and chemo.

Steve Jobs had the Whipple surgery in 2004 but he had a rare, non-aggressive form of pancreatic cancer. He also didn't get radiation or chemo. That was probably to his benefit.

My beautiful Aunt Tess died of this shit ass cancer in October, 2008. Once diagnosed, she "lived" just over a year. Shit, she had that Whipple procedure, whereby, they remove SEVEN body parts in the torso and restitch everything back together. Seriously lengthy operation. NO ONE who has had a Whipple survives.
After that shit storm, she needed radiation and chemo.
Fuck that shit. Just check the fuck out!
Has anyone seen the new episodes on the bio channel that aired this past Sunday:
I Survived...Death and Back
Kick ass! Six people were clinically outta here (heart totally stopped), and they ventured into the "other place." All different scenarios, but all had the freaking light. You could tell all six of them wanted SO much to stay put!!! The motorcycle guy all but said, "I'm totally effing pissed I came back."
That "other place" was described as BEYOND beautiful
Fear not death peeps. Sounds AWESOME!
(That being said, would Hitler and that genre have such a beautiful experience? One can only hope he comes back as a rat or something...over and over and over again....eternity, that's it!).

One theory why pancreatic cancer is so deadly; A scarcity of blood vessels in the pancreas makes it difficult to get enough chemo to the tumors.

Also, it's super hard to detect because of it's location in the body. I hate to sound pessimistic, but once you're diagnosed with it, it usually means it's too late. Really insidious cancer.
OK, I will tell you a nice story. Today I was walking through the forest and I could hear a faint noise in the distance. As I approached, the sounds became louder and louder. To my dismay there was a gigantic gathering of woodland creatures. There were chipmunks, squirrels, foxes, coyotes, beavers...billions of them, they were all standing around a big TV drinking champagne, clapping and cheering. I walked over to a dog and asked him why they were so happy.
He could hardly restrain his enthusiasm when sharing his secret. You see, it appears they were all thrilled at the thought of not having to end up smelling like White Shoulders and the stench of Aretha's butt crack sweat.
Ding Dong, the witch is dead...
If you want to express Aretha hate (WHY?) go somewhere else. Aretha is one of those people who gives me goosebumps and makes my head rock uncontrollably.
i love her blues and gospel the most (not so much the bacharach pop). when they say people have a "gift," they are talking about people like her. when she took over nessun dorma for pavarotti at the last minute, she may not have been an opera singer, but i cried--with joy. she is just beautiful. i also happen to think she's cool (and i know people who know her).

Oh for fuck sakes, she is like 700 fucking pounds. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what the problem is.
I couldn't stand her when she was alive and I sure as hell am not gonna care when the bitch is dead.
Damn. Too many people are fucking dying. Seriously. I guess instead of the Year of the Divorce we are getting the Summer of Death's bitch sister.

Good thoughts with Aretha, pancreas cancer is fucking serious with huge, instoppable pain. Poor woman, she deserves better than this.
Here are some definite risk factors:
Cigarette smoking (the leading preventable cause of pancreatic cancer)
Age (the risk of developing pancreatic cancer increases with age. Over 80% of the cases develop between the ages of 60 and 80)
Race (Pancreatic cancer is more common in the African American population)
Gender (more common in men than in women)
Religious background ( more common in Ashkenazi Jews than the rest of the population. May be because of a particular inherited mutation in the breast cancer gene (BRCA2) which runs in some Ashkenazi Jewish families)
Chronic pancreatitis (Long-term inflammation of the pancreas has been linked to cancer of the pancreas)
Diabetes (both a symptom and a risk)
Obesity (significantly increases the risk)
Diet (diets high in meats, cholesterol fried foods and nitrosamines may increase risk)
Genetics (a number of inherited cancer syndromes increase the risk of pancreatic cancer)
I've known people who smoked and drank heavily their entire lives. No cancer.
Then there are the people who take care of themselves their whole life and wind up riddled with it.
There is no rhyme or reason to this disease.
Oh no, it's being reported in the mainstream media that she does have pancreatic cancer. Sad news. I can't imagine someone delivering that kind of news to me. To know that you literally only have weeks to live is beyond comprehension. How would you even begin to deal with that?
I am quiting smoking today. No bullshit. I just asked my fiance to destroy the pack I had sitting in a drawer. Shit.
Positive vibes out to Aretha.
Probably the world's biggest case of breast cancer.
I so hope this is bs
Queen Aretha is in a class by herself. It would be a terrific loss for the world if/when she passes. Sadness rules this news.
Nail me to my car... then I'll tell you who you are...Joe The Lion
I know someone who had this. Smoker for life. Is Aretha a smoker? It's linked to pancreatic cancers.
Being overweight causes lots of cancers...take care girls.
Sadness. I hope they caught it early and she recovers.

Terrible, hopeless cancer. My mother died of it 8 months after diagnosis. Didn't drink or smoke, was slim and in excellent shape for her age. It can hit anyone. Poor Aretha.

Yikes. That's a bad one. I recall it's the only cancer a major medical textbook lists a "patient sense of impending doom" as a symptom.
----------------------------
I wake up with that feeling every single day so I guess that means I'm fucked.
Oh this is very sad news, there is no one like Aretha, no one.
Wouldn't be surprised - looked like she dropped quite a lot of weight which is often an early sign of that type of cancer.
Whatever it is, I wish her the best. Much love for my hometown girl.
I'll give the Queen my pancreas! This cannot be true. It just cannot.

I've written a letter to MK...saying...I...love...youuuuuu.
My best's friend's mom died of pancreatic cancer and they found it pretty early. She got about a year and half. It's the devil.
My nana was as skinny as a rail, and Patrick Swayze and Michael Landon were in good shape. Smoking is what did those three in. Pavarotti had the chunk and I doubt he smoked, same with Aretha. There could be many contributors to pancreatic cancer, overweight, smoking, drinking.....
Hopefully, it's not pancreatic cancer. A big ass "Fuck You" to any cunt/dick who posts or has already posted snark about Queen Aretha. Yes, you are hated.
One of my family members had pancreatic cancer...they told him 6 weeks....on the day he got the news he called me to say goodbye...the next day he passed away. *sadness* My family member was overweight too....so it has something to do with obesity..and he was only 40 when he died....and he was around someone 24/7 who smoked...so he inhaled second hand smoke.
i hope this is not true...

wow - that's sad. A dear friend of mine died of pancreatic cancer back in June... he had about 8 weeks after he was diagnosed. One reason it has such a high mortality rate is because it has no symptoms until it's at stage IV.
